37 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/11/2017

October of this year. My transmission in my Corvette would not go into park. I put it into reverse and backed it out and then could not put it up into park. I then put it into drive and moved forward some and tried to put it into park. This time it would not go even into reverse. The vehicle has 56220 miles on it. I stays in a garage climate controlled and has seen bad weather maybe 6 time (snow or rain). So off the car went to the Chevrolet dealer to get repaired. I googled the problem to do a little research and found out that there has been lots of complaints on this same problem with out any results. So there is a plastic piece in the shiftier mechanism the entire assembly must be replaced. So at $1068. 00 later the problem was fixed. Did gm know about the problem, they sure did. The service person told me he has replaced 2 the same week and more through the year. My gut feeling is that this is a hazard to not only the owner but to other drivers out there. I even feel that it could be life threatening to everyone. The piece gets stuck in the unit and one could drive straight into a wall or run over someone in the vehicles path.

39 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/18/2017

I never received any notice from gm, but I brought it to the dealer's attention while I was in for a recall repair in 2008. I told the tech that my traction control, active stability control, wasn't working properly. When I received the car back the tech said the traction control is fixed and working fine. I didn't see how he could have said that when the car never left the shop. I realize now that he was aware of something that I wasn't. The traction wasn't fixed, but I felt that I can't bring it back due to incompetence. I went to forums and found plenty of complaints from others. Then I noticed that 2005-2006 Corvettes with the rpon37 steering column built in 2005 were recalled for this. Nhtsa campaign number was 10v172000 and gm's campaign # was n100118. I called gm they said I am mistaken my car is not affected which is crap. I then found from the internet that part #19179794, clip, was used to fix the issue. I then ordered one of these and followed the instructions to repair it and found this clip was installed, but improperly hence the reason it wasn't fixed by the tech, but he was under the impression it was solved. I then replaced the clip properly and now it's ok. Gm was very difficult and dismissive during the entire ordeal. Looking on your web site it specifically states that my VIN # does in fact fall into the specs of your recall. I am going to enclose a photo of the bent, improperly, installed clip and a proper picture of the clip. Also the harness that needs the clip to show that the bent prong is needed to repair the harness.

40 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/06/2017

2 occurrences I have been driving the vehicle, without notice I loose all power steering function, power brakes function and all abs/traction control. Several warning lights are displayed on dashboard. Both times the vehicle has been towed to the nearest Chevrolet dealer for repairs. Both these occurrences have happened while driving on major streets, the first time I was going around a curve on the street appx 40-45 mph, lost all functions and nearly lost control of the vehicle.

41 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/12/2017

Began to notice a sensed vehicle self steering sensation on 7/12/17. The vehicle feels like the rear wheels are sliding around with no traction or as if the rear wheels are steering themselves. It is occurring at all speeds, even while driving up an inclined driveway.

42 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

While turning a corner at a normal rate of speed, active handling turned on and tried to straighten out the vehicle, putting me on a collision course with the car in the opposite lane. It would have forced crossing over the lane had I not reacted quickly. Repair shop diagnosed as failed steering wheel position sensor; a part gm chose to discontinue years ago even though it is one of the most critical safety components of the vehicle.

Track control.

44 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 05/06/2017

Had c7 z51 stick 2014 and had problem with traction and stability control. After purchased the car I recognized that when acceleration bit faster there was back axle, parking brake and some other warnings. It happened always when accelerated bit faster. Winter stab worked ok. But now in summer I lost control on highway driving 50 mph accelerating on wet road and lost control and hit guard rail. There was no stability or traction control what so ever. I was in eco mode which has normal stab/trac control. I brought to dealer when warning lights come up, but dealer said it is normal no worry everything is ok. But it was not working at all!!.

45 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 04/11/2017

When I turn the sterling wheel at times the car will completely lose power and the wheel will lock up. Also if I turn on my turn signal no matter of the speed I'm traveling the power will cut off.

46 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 03/04/2017

I was going down the highway and noticed that the Corvette was getting really hot, than about 5 min later onstar reported a engine, trans, and rear end problem along with a loud clanking noise from the motor. Now it only does about 65 thank it goes to 5k rpms and goes nowhere.

47 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 02/24/2017

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. While reversing the vehicle at 5 mph, the service active handling sensor and traction control warning indicators illuminated. It was diagnosed that the body control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred two weeks later. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10v172000 (steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,757.

48 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 01/31/2017

The vehicle unexpectedly accelerated from doing 25 mph at 1200 rpm, to over 6500 rpm at an unknown speed cause me to have an accident. I did not accelerate the vehicle on my own, and pressing the brake did nothing to stop the vehicle. Because of this, my vehicle is possibly totalled and luckily myself, or no one else was seriously hurt or lost our life. I have tries contacting several dealerships to see if there is a possible recall about this issue or have their been other cases of this to no avail. I do also plan on contacting Chevrolet about this issue also.

49 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 01/11/2017

The electronic brake control module (ebcm) p/n 10343433 all of a sudden failed. As a result the dash computer error code c1214 for the anti-lock brake system, traction control has been coming on constantly. My wife has to press the reset button when she put the key in, when the car is started and when it is shut off. This ebcm is not available through any web site or dealer and is back ordered. The problem with this failure is that if you step too firmly on the gas peddle, the car will go out of control possibly causing an accident. Again without the ebcm, the traction control and anti-lock brake system are disabled. This is a very grave hazard should an owner not be aware of what happens if the ebcm module fails. A recall should be issued immediately.

50 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 12/18/2016

Attempting to enter an expressway entrance ramp, I accelerated the vehicle to avoid a car closing rapidly from behind. The car was heading straight and I made no steering input to the the rear end abruptly moved to the right and I was unable to countersteer sufficiently to avoid hitting a vehicle in the lane to my right. This initial collision caused further loss of control within my vehicle and the other vehicle, and we collided a second time.

51 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 12/16/2016

In 2010, there was a recall on my vehicle for "steering wheel position sensor. " the issue was the "service active handling" warning notice was intermittently appearing in the driver information center. The remedy was to install a plastic clip. This remedy did not fix the issue and I was told I needed a new "steering wheel position sensor" and that it was not covered by the recall and it would be at my expense. I did not have the repair done at that time because I rarely drive the car, and the problem was intermittent. The dealership advised me to have a front end alignment and that seemed to fix the problem for awhile. The "service active handling" warning has returned, and I'm scheduled to have the sensor replaced for about $800. This seems to be a widely known problem in the 2005-2006 Corvettes, and the plastic clip did not fix the issue. I'm extremely concerned as there have been many bad accidents due to the active handling system engaging at random times and causing crashes. Why didn't gm acknowledge that the plastic clip did not remedy the issue and why am I having to pay for a repair that is wide spread and that the recall repair is known to not have worked.

52 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 12/02/2016

Car did not respond to steering on a turn at moderate speed ( 15-20 mph) on slippery road surface. The turn was tight and nearly a reverse in direction. I approached the turn in rainy conditions traveling at 25 mph anticipating the turn, lifted my foot off of the accelerator. The car went straight. I informed state farm insurance, volunteering approval to examine the on board computer. I also contacted gm corporation. State farm claim no. 03-0509-8m3. Gm contact sara (855)880-1400 x 5911707.

53 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/14/2016

This complaint is with respect to my 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. Twice within a three day period I received a warning message from my car saying "service active handling system". In the first case I was starting the car (not moving) and in the second case I was pulling into a parking spot moving at about 5mph turning hard to the left. In neither case did I experience any handling issue with the vehicle but again one time I was not moving and the second only traveling at 5 mph so if anything such as automatic brake application had occurred I may not have noticed it. I've researched the issue and have found that many other Corvette owners (and some Cadillac xlr owners) have had the same warning message. In some cases brakes are applied automatically and unexpectedly at high spreads creating a real safety issue. One possible remedy per gm is TSB 06-02-35-002 (recall n100118, 10118). Being safety related I'm not sure why this service usually costs owners. Also this TSB stops at the 2006 model year and I have a 2007 that was originally delivered in October of 2006. I have called my local chevy dealer ( jim ellis in atlanta GA). I'm waiting on a return call.

54 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

The car only has 2388 miles. Backing straight out the drive way the dash starting displaying service antilock breaks, service traction system, service active handling system. The dash lights from abs and traction stay on and the traction control control button is disabled.

55 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/25/2016

Service active handling system light comes on randomly, usually at low speeds (35mph or less) often or always preceded by abs triggering for no reason (just normal driving or braking without traction loss). It looks like this exact issue was recalled on older (but same generation, c6 Corvette) vehicles, but not a covered issue on newer models.

56 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette. While reversing the vehicle at approximately 5 mph, the service ride control warning indicator illuminated. The contact also observed that the steering wheel pulled in the opposite direction occasionally. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 10v172000 (steering). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

57 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

The abs control module has become non-functional. This eliminates the safety aspect of anti-lock braking, traction control, active handling, and anti-skid control. Chevrolet no longer supplies this critical element to my car's safety and performance. The digital information display center flashes that these safety elements need servicing, which is also a safety impairment because I cannot get any display of other functions of the car, I. E. Mileage, fuel warning, options, and trip information. The part number is 10343433 (abs control module). This is an ac/delco number and none are in stock anywhere is the united states. I was told by multiple dealers that none are available and general motors will no longer supply this critical safety item again! this is a horrible support service on something so critical to the safety of a very expensive automobile. The response by general motors is selfish and uncaring. If you type abs control module for Corvette series c5 in google, you will find an unlimited resource of complaints. I believe this will be a series of accidents waiting to happen that will cause personal injury and death on our highways. Please investigate and take action.

58 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

Any time I driving over 30-40 the car activate the traction control system and the car acting strange like loose traction . Need activate the different driving system to keep drive and is not normal.

59 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/27/2016

Service active handling system message appears intermittingly, vehicle was in motion. Didn't notice any handling issue but I am concerned that the car will behave in an unsafe manor.

60 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/19/2016

My electronic stability control comes on regularly especially when I hit sand in driveway and tire spins which I expect but at other times the warning light comes on without any tire spin or condition that would warrant this. Turning from a stand still is another time the lights will come on without any tire spin. My wife drives this car now and I got a newer one. I am worried about her safety as she is an older lady 62 and if brakes locked up or steering she would not know how to handle the situation.

61 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

63 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 05/17/2016

This 03 Corvette has electrical problems since day one, I bought it after being misled and discriminated against and never given correct vehicle report, it has awkward glitches in lighting, all ejector electrical systems, it indicates water damage; hurricane, flooding.

64 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 05/06/2016

Investigation number ea09-002 going into a slow left sharp turn the vehicle cut off fuel, triggered service abs, service active handling, service traction control. During this time I could not accelerate. Abs braking is now disabled and will not reset with ignition cycles.

65 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Corvette

"service active handling system has been shown on the display since I purchased the car o 3/23/16 with 1238 miles. Car has been at the dealer for over a week and still no fixed.

67 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 03/14/2016

While driving through a parking lot at roughly 10mph, my car jammed on the front left, then both front brakes, bringing me to a sudden stop. Active handling was showing in the driver information cluster just like when your car loses traction for any reason. . . I thought this was very odd as it wasn't raining, no sand or fluids were present on the road in front of me, and I was barely touching the gas pedal. I then checked to see if I had run something over or if anything was jammed in the wheels/brakes. . . . Nothing visible. I get back in, reverse just fine, but as soon as I shift back to first and attempt forward motion boom it jams the brakes on again. I then re-clutched, tried again with a little more gas, thinking maybe I do have something stuck under the car. . . . Nope, it still brings me to a stop immediately. At this point, I was freaked out. . . . (needless to say) I held the active handling (traction control) button down until the system was fully disabled, after doing this I was able to drive the car back to work. I then found out about the recall and called the dealer. They told me that this recall for active handling had been completed in 2010. I asked them to please verify this as I had a headlight recall to do anyways and scheduled an appointment. Long story short. . . The service adviser told me that the previous repair had failed and that it needed to be done again. He then tells me that they do not have to fix my car because they already repaired it back in 2010 and that it would be up to me to cover the cost. After trying for over a week to convince them to do the right thing, I gave up and paid them for the repair. Im very worried that this will also not hold up. If this repair failed in the past, who is to say that it wont happen again, and this time it could cause a crash, even death. Please help, someone has to hold these people accountable.

68 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/25/2015

I was driving on the freeway and active handling come on and the car swerve to the left almost causing a accident.

69 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/19/2015

I purchased my car used with 29000 miles on it in July 2015. Gm dealer stated that all recalls were incorporated. After having my vehicle serviced months later, the message : service active handling system appears on my display after readjusting my steering column. Car was not in motion. I turned off the ignition and restarted the car. The message has not reappeared since, however the steering column has not been readjusted since either. Is this possibly a faulty incorporation of the NHTSA recall notice 10v172000? I currently have 31450 miles on the odometer.

70 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/09/2015

Rarely, during low speeds (under 15 mph), while driving straight, the left rear wheel will lock up, inducing a harsh left turn, unstable maneuvering, and causing the motor to attempt to stall. Steering is extremely unstable and violent and operator has to fight against the car wanting to turn left by applying extreme right to the steering wheel. The only remedy is to engage and disengage the clutch several times until the left rear wheel unlocks. Symptoms have not occurred during normal traffic speeds (above 15 mph). Auto handling/traction control and abs lights are activated during this event. Vehicle is in factory condition. Only exception is alternate brand of tire (nitto invos) - but maintaining factory specifications (front: 275/35zr18; rear: 325/30zr19). Have not reported to manufacturer yet (it is too random and rare to reproduce on a predictable occurrence). Environmental conditions: normal (sunny, dry paved surface).
