The contact owns a 1987 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same failures as listed in NHTSA campaign number: 091v14300 (seat belts). The contact stated that the front driver side seat belt was jammed in the retractor and could not be unfastened. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000.
- the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette, and stated that the seat belts were retracting without applying the brakes. On one occasion, the seat belts retracted until the shoulder part of the belt was on the contact's neck and he felt as if he was being choked. Both retractors are broken due to lab belt webbing twisted and jammed. Dealer admitted recall 00-v-111-000, and installed inserts to the belt web guide of each lap belt retractor, but did not replace the retractors.

My complaint is with the local dealership who refused to allow me to bring the car in so a new seatbelt could be ordered.

Copy of complaint to dealer: I brought my 2001 Corvette in for service yesterday. One of my complaints was the improper operation of the drivers side seat belt. You replaced the retractor assembly. The new one is far worse. Im not blaming you because it was okay when I picked up the car. By the end of the day it was all most impossible to properly extend the belt to buckle it. Even more dangerous was the fact that it locks up on me while Im driving, pinning me to my seat and making it impossible to maneuver (like checking to the rear when backing up). . . . . I went through almost 3 years with this nonsense with my 1998 Corvette before chevy finally recalled the car. .

Seat belt webbing on passenger's side will not retract into hoiusing unless consumer will do it manually. Then, will work at a time. But, there is a warning label on webbing that won't allow belt to retract. Dealer told consumer to remove label because consumer was owner of vehicle, and dealer was not allowed to do so.
Vehicle is experiencing the exact same problems as mentioned in manufacturer's recall 10461. Lap belt webbing can twist, allowing webbing to jam in the retractor. Dealer has replaced the seatbelt with the problem on the passenger side, but not the driver's side. Also, did not install inserts to the belt web guide of each lap belt retractor.

Driver's side shoulder belt is over lapping and won't retract. A consumer had the vehicle in repair shop three times for repairs, and the dealer couldn't determine the cause. Driving at any speed and applying the brakes, the steering wheel is jumping out of the consumer's hand.
Passenger's seatbelt gets stuck in the retractor which causes seatbelt to be inoperable, and won't protect the occupant in event of a crash. Dealer replaced the seatbelt system, but problem still exists.

Driver and passenger seat belt retractors jam repeatedly, causing seat belts to become unsable, which could cause injury or death in a crash. I returned the vehicle to the dealer wh said ther had been no problems reported with this design. He "lubed" the assemblies, which had no effect. I believe that there is a design flaw with respect to the locking/ratcheting mechanism thet is supposed to allow the seat belt to be locked in a tight position to hold the occupants in the seats better for high lateral forces. Unfortunatly, the design of the assembly frequently allows (and causes due to retract angles) the belt to feed into the retractor folded over. When this happens, the retract spring does not have enough power to pull the the belt all of the way in, which it must do to release the ratcheting mechanism. The result is a jammed belt that is prevented from being pulled out by the locking mechanism and prevented from retracting from the folded belt. Since I know about the problem, I am very carefull when taking off the belt, but it still happens occasionaly. The passenger side jams much morer frequently due to varying people not familier with the care that must be taken to prevent a jam. I can clear the jam by getting out of the car, kneeling on the ground and working the belt in and jerking out until it wraps all of the way in twisted. This usually takes around 20 - 30 minutes to accomplish. I have had to do this around 50 times now. Since it is illegal and unsafe to drive the vehicle with out a seat bealt properly fastened around all occupants, I am considering having the vehicle transported to the dealer on a flatbed each time it jams. I would really appreciate some help on this matter. Please call for more details.
Steering wheel locked up when in reverse gear, and the vehicle was rolling which could have caused an accident. 2. Passenger's side seat belt will not retract in place properly or it will twist and jam the system ,causing loss of protection. The service department admits to the defect in both cases. Ref. In ea02-031.
Passenger and driver side seat belt retractors constantly jam, causing seat belts to be inoperable. Took to dealer who "lubed" retractors, which had no effect. Caused by seatbelt improperly feeding into retractor and ratchet mechanism preventing belt from being pulled back out to correct. Retractor spring is not strong enough to completely wind in the belts when folded, causing a jammed situation where the belt will neither retract fully or pull out. This renders the belts unusable.
Seat belt on passenger side jams and fails to retract or extend. The angle of the seatbelt system does not enable the occupant to easily use it without "coaxing" it back in. The dealer is now replacing the belt for a second time. I have spoken to three other new Corvette owners who have experienced trouble with the seat belts, especially on the passanger side. Their solution was not to wear the belt, which is not a valid or legal solution. The dealer intake people agree with us that the belts are too sensative, but can only replace the belt.
Seat belt retractor malfunctioned on the drivers side.

Vehicle's seat belt bottom retractor will not go back in the slot.
Front lap belts jam in the retractor. A recall has been issued on the vehicle make and medel; but the vehicle was not included in the recall because the owner was not notified.
Passenger's side seat belt is jammed & failed to retract to original position. Once pulled out to be used, it would twist as it was going back. Took to dealers & had the belt retractor replaced.
Both driver and passenger seat belt webbings often fold over while retracting. Once the folded webbing is pulled into retractor the retractor jams. Further use of seatbelt is impossible. This is dangerous and illegal. The entire molding must be disassembled each time to get the belt to release and be usable again. This requires tools and . 5 hours of time. This has happened to me no less than 20 times in a 2 month period. When picking my daughter up from school the retractor often jams forcing her to not wear a safety belt. Dealer has been no help. Gm has been no help. I have a $38000 car that is both dangerous and illegal to drive. Someone please help, this is a very common occurence on all 1997 and up Corvettes and gm knows about it. Nhtsa database lists campaign id number 00v111000 for this exact problem but gm just blows me off and tells me there is no fix and no recall.
Driver's and passenger's seat belts will not release from the retracting mechanism, causing the seat belts to become inoperable. Please give any further details.
The seatbelts get easily twisted and fail to retract, rendering them usless. Dealer is aware of many customer complatins but stated that gm doesn't have a fix. This is very dangerous to be traveling when you get out of the vehicle and then can't wear the seatbelt for the rest of the trip, until you go to the dealer to get them to fix it. They wont replace the part since they don't have fix for it. Know many 1998-1999 Corvette owners that have complained about the same problem. Something needs to be done to force gm to fix this design problem.
Passenger's side seat belt will not retract, it binds at the corner and will get stuck in the out position. The dealer has been contacted and replaced the seat belt, but the problem is still present.
Recall 00v111000. Driver's lap belt does not retract, causing the restraint to be inoperable. A recall has been issued on the vehicle. However, manufacturer has not been able to determine if this vehicle was included under the recall by the VIN.
