The passenger seat belt locks and pins the passenger down. It will not release unless it’s released from the release button. If there’s an accident, my passenger would be seriously injured.

Seat belt fully retracted and could not be released in first day. Had to drive 155 miles without operating seatbelt. This is a safety issue. My build date was 9/22 if you look at the forums this was not the only car built that day with a failed seat belt. Seems like bad parts to me.
The passenger seat belt immediately locks down and over tightens to a point of almost crushing the passenger. I do believe this belt will not function properly in an accident and may also fail to activate the air bag.

The computer isn't allowing me to check off the other issues. The brakes were the other thing that couldn't be checked off. The vehicle went off the road and the brakes locked and now the vehicle is totaled. Had I been notified about these recalls this would not have happened.

The lap-shoulder belt will not remain in the seat belt guide as it should. Therefor the seat belt does not fit over the shoulder and across the chest of smaller adults or older children as required to keep them safe in the event of a collision. The seat belt comes out of the guide when moving and at times when stationary. The gap in the guide is too large. This problem appears to be so prevalent that an after market clip is on the market to hold the seat belt into place.

Seat belt pretensioner on the passenger side deployed (sounded like a shotgun blast in the cabin) without provocation. No accident, did not run over anything, etc. Going straight ~45mph on an empty street at 12:50am. Smoke billowing out of the cabin of my car, all the lights were on, bells were ringing, etc. It's as if I was in an accident, but no airbags deployed. Frightening experience! gm said it is not their problem.
When I baught the vehical the seat belt always locked and now it says buckle seat belt when it is, dealer is not going to fix. Among other issues.

While driving at any speed, the red seat belt light will intermittently flash. Just moving my bum from just getting comfy, the light will come on steady, then flash, then be accompanied by four chimes, then, go off. A few miles down road, at legal speeds, (doesn't matter the speed) the light will come on steady again, then flash, then chimes, then it goes out -- for awhile. Repeat this after a few miles and you want to drive it over a cliff. . .

I just had my mandated 08 c6 emissions recall done. Now while in drive at a stop light, the steering wheel vibrates, along with parts of the drivers door and the center console. It is the new resonance from the mid cats and rpm idle change. Plus I drove it 60 miles, then took temp readings with a laser temp gun. . . My right pant leg was at 95 degrees, and the seat belt plastic attachment was at 115 degrees. I then measured the temp inside the center console. . . 140 degrees. Also on average, the engine is running 10 to 15 degrees hotter(due to more back pressure and the leaning of the air fuel mixture) when I parked it in the garage and got out. . . You could feel a strong wave of heat coming from under the car. The dealership that I took it to agrees with my conclusions. However, gm corporate is not helping me to resolve these issues.

The driver's side seat belt will not retract. It is extended all the way out. Therefore, it will not fit nor will it protect anyone from injury. I find this to be a seatbelt defect and a major safety hazard.

Previous claim w/NHTSA was filed on wrong vehicle. I am filing this complaint so that it can be associated to the correct vehicle. I was in a passenger side and rear collision resulting in serious injury and permanent impairment which resulted in a total loss of the vehicle and multiple surgeries as well as prolonged and continued impairments and care. I was struck in the passenger side door by a truck crossing 3 lanes into my 4th lane as I sat idol at a stop light, the extreme impact blew holes in the side walls of my tires. I was pushed me into the median in which I ricocheted off of and was hit a second time by the same truck tearing into the hatch and bending the frame of the vehicle declared a total loss. Not one of the airbags deployed and the seat belt failed to restrain me. Resulting in severe whiplash, tbi, torn rotator cuff and bicep tear, permanent loss of hearing in my right ear and a cranial fracture, back and neck injuries, hip and intestinal blockage(twisted). At the time of the accident NHTSA, dealer and gm ran VIN due to the suspicion of air bags and seatbelt failure there were no known recalls on my vehicle or VIN at the time. The first time I was notified VIN was confirmed on recall due to the vehicle being left in "test" mode was 8/13/2020 which I immediately filed a claim with report of injury related accident with corporate and they opened a claim and 30 days later stated that my claim was outside of the 3 yr statute of limitations. Gm and dealer failed to file the recall in a timely manner with known issues as early as 2014 resulting in my vehicle not being repaired prior to the accident. I believe this to be a repose statute in colorado that is 6 years from incident and would like to file a claim against the dealer and gm for failure to properly notify of recall. Failure to notify me of the recall is negligence which resulted in permanent injury and impairment as well as continued medical care which could have been prevented.
My 1999 Corvette seat belt retractor quit working 2 days ago . My wife was unable to fasten the seat belt after several trys. I removed both retractors to inspect and could find no visible damage. There car is in showroom condition. I did an internet search for info and found a recall campaign : NHTSA campaign I'd number 00v111000 Apr 6 2000. I called my chevy dealer fox neghanee and they said a recall had been done in 2000 for a plastic part to stop belt twisting and no further recall would be honored. But this is not the problem! the ratcheting mechanism is faulty. I need this fixed ASAP from the defective seat belt mechanism. This results in a vehicle I now cannot legally and safely drive. Please help. John shillinger.
Airbag warning light intermittent. Seat belt pretensioner not locking. Airbag light will appear after moving seat or during spirited driving.

I have a complaint about seatbelts in recent (2000) car models. I've ridden in Chevrolet, Chrysler, Ford and GMC vehicles and all these vehicles (at least in the front seats) have retractable shoulder harnesses. These harnesses keep retracting when you have them on as you are driving. Since I am only 5 feet tall, the harness chokes me. On most occasions when this happens, I can slide the harness over my head and only be belted in with the seatbelt until I can either pull over safely to fix it or am at a stop light or sign and can fix it. To fix the strangulation of the harness, I have unhook the whole harness and let it totally retract, then pull it out to where I can keep my hand on it so it doesn't keep getting tighter or use a clip to try to keep it from tightening on me. The clips are winged paper clips, so they don't always hold. My issue is that as I'm driving, I'm being strangled by the harnesses in these vehicles. Please, can you start legislation to prevent retractable harnesses or make it that the retraction is controlled by the rider? thank you.

When pulling the driver's side seat belt out to put it on, it pulls out about 12" and locks, making it impossible to put on. Even though there is an open recall on this seat belt problem, the Chevrolet dealer was unable to get the parts to fix it - the parts are unavailable. This is a 1990 Corvette.
I purchased the vehicle listed above in Dec. 2012. I recently took it to a Chevrolet dealer for service who at that time ran it through their database to see if there were any outstanding recalls. In 1990 a recall was issued for the driver's side seat belt not working as expected. When they checked with the manufacturer they were informed that the replacement part was no longer in production so therefore could not be replaced. My question is should the manufacturer still be responsible for fixing the defective part or has the recall expired on this issue? thank you for your time concerning this matter.
Passenger seat belt failed to retract. Intermittent locking of seatbelt noticed prior to incident on both driver and passenger seatbelts. Failure indicates that seatbelt mechanism will not function in an accident and could cause injury or a fatality.

The contact owns a 1991 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that the driver's side retractable seat belt became jammed and would not function, making the seat belt unusable and leaving the driver unsecured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the seat belt retractor was faulty. The contact was informed that the parts to repair the defect were no longer available. The contact was responding to NHTSA campaign number: 91v143000 (seat belts). The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 83,000.
Just back from the dealer. Serviceman said "frayed wire at seat belt", code b0040. Written up as "driver seat connector unplugged". They added dielectric grease, re-mated the connector and now the intermittent airbag dash warning light has ceased.
On March 28, 2014, I was driving our 2003 Chevrolet Corvette when I failed to see the vehicle in front of me and crashed into the back of the vehicle. For me this amounted to a front end collision. The front of the Corvette was damaged, but that was all. The pier and roof were not damaged. I had the seat belt properly fastened and on impact the shoulder strap did not hold. I was thrown over the air bag and into the windshield actually breaking the windshield with my head, which caused me head and neck injuries. On impact I sustained a fractured cervical spine, for which I have suffered severe pain and may still have to have surgery at this point in time. I have lost valuable work time and have been confined to the house since then. I have pictures of the rod that actually is sticking out of the inside of the vehicle, which is supposed to hold the hardware secure. Obviously, this is why the shoulder strap did not hold. I now have tons of medical bills and am unable to work. I would be happy to make these pictures available to you.

Reference numbers: ?Chevrolet recalls 91c25 and 91c26 issued November 1991 ?NHTSA campaign id #: 91v143000 ?Chevrolet claim# 71-1313217105 (from recent conversations) ?VIN# 1g1yy0781 g5121701. Our 1986 Corvette?s seatbelts intermittently lockup and do not move; then when they do eventually release we are concerned that they do not consistently grab when needed. After one recent quick stop the passenger belt did not restrain. That experience prompted us to search online for replacement seatbelts. During that search we found a recall notice, so we checked our own records and found the original recall notice that Chevrolet mailed to us in 1991, and an April 1991 note that they refused to perform the service because they could not duplicate the problem. We have all of the vehicle?s service records and there is no record, or recollection, that the repair was ever performed. We called Chevrolet?s customer service and learned that one database shows that our 1986 Corvette is eligible for the repair, but another database (open recall database?) does not show our VIN# so they won?t perform the repair. In June 2014 a local dealer, who also refused to perform the recall service, surmised that our VIN# does not appear because in April 1992, when the recall service was originally refused, the dealer probably removed it from the recall database (but we were not informed of this nor does Chevrolet have any record of it. ) of course the missing VIN# might also be a data accuracy problem with Chevrolet?s database. Are you in a position to advise/encourage Chevrolet to replace the defective seat belts? if not, at least file this as a safety complaint against Chevrolet. Thank you. We have a log of all calls to gm and pictures of the seat belt serial numbers.

The contact's daughter owned a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed on a rainy night, there was another unoccupied vehicle stopped side ways in the middle of the highway with no hazards lights activated. The ambulance transported all passengers to the emergency room, where medical assistance was provided. The vehicle was towed and totaled. A police report was filed but the contact did not have the information available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure occurred because an object that was hanging on the driver's key holder had caused the ignition switch to turn off.
