1 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/29/2019

Driving to work (in the dark) the low beam headlights shut off. Pulled the car over and turned the headlamp switch to on and they started working (was in auto sensor mode). Next day when I was leaving the house I turned the headlamp switch on, headlights popped up but did not come on. I could turn them to high beam and they worked but not on low. After driving the car and switching back and forth from high to low beam several times, the low beams started working again.

2 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

While coming home from work this evening (completely dark / 6:30pm) my low beam headlights both shut off. I was on a four lane road coming up to a traffic light that was green for me. I noticed just before getting to the traffic light my headlights had shut off. I slowed some thinking I had accidentally hit a switch or something and thank goodness I slowed some. As I approached the light a car turned right in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes and really thought I was going to hit the other car. They obviously didn't see me since I had no headlights. When I got home I checked online to see where the head light fuse was located on my car thinking that's all it was. I found out through online articles this is a problem that is under investigation for my model Corvette with over 100k miles. I let the car cool down per what was said in some of the forums and just went out to crank my car and the headlights came on. This is a very very dangerous situation and given gm's reluctance to recall known dangerous issues with some of their vehicles I hope your agency will force a recall on this. I very nearly t-boned another driver tonight because I feel they just didn't see me without my head lights on. Thank you.

3 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/19/2013

I started to have issues with my low beam headlights turning on in my 2005 c6 Corvette. The switch was turned to automatic and would not turn on. When the switch was turned to manual mode the low beam lights would still not turn on. The high beams and fog lamps work with regular success. When the car sits for long periods of time and the car is cool the low beam lights will turn on and stay on for a short period of time, but as soon as the car is brought up to operating temperature the low beam lights fail to work. I did some research and found out this is a major problem for 2005-2007 c6 Corvettes and the NHTSA along with Chevrolet should file an immediate recall before lives are lost. It's a easy fix with replacement of the fuse box in the engine compartment.

4 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated while driving 45 mph at the night the low beam headlights malfunctioned and decreased the contacts vision. The contact had to engage the high-beam headlights in order to reach his destination. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer stated that the wires were connected to the headlight switch were loose and needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the headlight wires. The contact stated the repair did not remedy the failure. The contact stated the low beam headlights malfunctioned after it was repaired. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer who stated the fuse box caused the low beam headlights to malfunction. The dealer replaced the fuse box. The failure mileage was 103,000.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Driving on the freeway in traffic at night, my low beam headlights shut off and my only option was to use my hi beams. People were flashing their bright lights and I was blinding other drivers. The next day the headlights came on, then switched off 5 minutes after driving. For the last few days they have rarely even came on, and when they do, they will turn off quickly. I drive my Corvette every day, and this is very unsafe. A police officer stopped me and gave me a verbal warning last night when my lights switched off and I had to turn my bright lights on right in front of him.

6 Headlight Switch problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 08/20/2013

While driving on the freeway, the low beam headlights on my 2007 Corvette went dark without warning. The instrument panel headlight indicator showed that they were still on. I switched to high beams and those lights were working. It seems the low beams work for awhile but stop working after the car warms up for about 20 minutes or so. Also if the low beams were working and the car is turned of for a short period of time the low beams may not work once the car is started again. This seems to be happening more frequently. Clearly this is a defect in the manufacture of the vehicle and a limited recall needs to be initiated for those cars that are experiencing this problem.

7 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 05/12/2013

It was Sunday night and as I was driving home a car flashed it lights at me. I got home and put the car in the garage. Shortly after, I went to leave again and noticed when leaving, sitting in my driveway, that my headlights were not on. I had them set on automatic. I tried to force them to come on and they would not come on. I already was taking my car into the dealership (lone star Chevrolet in cypress texas) and added this to my list of problems on Monday when I took it in. On Monday when I drove the car to the dealership, the lights were working again. When they went to test the car, they once again had the problem with the lights and could not turn them on. When they called with the repair costs, they said they were going to replace the intermittent switch on the lights. They had the car for 3 days. They said other than on that initial inspection they were unable to duplicate the problem again so in good faith they could not justify that replacing the switch would fix the problem so they did nothing to the car to fix the light problem. The evening I got the car back, Wednesday 5/15, the lights once again would not work. This morning, Thursday 5/16 they worked again. I was searching on the internet to see if others had experienced the problem and to see what the fix was, and I noticed that the nhtsb was researching the problem currently. I wanted to make sure you were aware of my car as well. I also noticed that several people on the Corvette forum are having the same problem as well. I will let them know to come to this website to file a complaint as well. This is a major safety issue. Thanks you.

8 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

While driving at night on the interstate, the low beam headlights shut off. All other lights wored fine. I was able to switch to hi beams and continue home. Car was purchased used less than 1 month ago. Search of Corvette forums online reveals that this is a fairly common problem and is related to the fuse block under the hood. Chevrolet knows about the problem but has done nothing about it. The cost of replacing the fuse block (approx. 600. 00) should not be borne by the consumer due to a safety issue.

9 Headlight Switch problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/03/2012

July 03, 2012 9pm - low beam headlights failed to turn on either automatically or manually by switch. For next several days/nights the low beams would intermittently turn on when the car was cold and turn off after the car was warm. Searching the internet identified the underhood fuse block as the most likely cause, many Corvette owners had experienced the same problem with the low beams and isolated their problem to this fuse block. I replaced my fuse block July 15 and the problem was fixed. I disassembled the removed fuse block with the intent of repairing it so I would have a spare fuse block if the new fuse block failed. After evaluating the design and construction of the fuse block I concluded that the fuse block will have poor long term reliability. I could repair the problem that caused the low beam headlight failure but any and every other circuit in the fuse block is vulnerable to the same failure cause. Every component/system that receives power thru this fuse block is vulnerable to eventually experiencing intermittent power problems.
