Heard of the delamination problem with the c6 Corvettes. . Heard a pop, and pulled off road to inspect. Found rear portion of painted top delaminated from frame. Scheduled for dealer to inspect in a week.
The painted roof of my car flew off on the highway this morning. There is a recall on some 2006 Corvette's but, not on all and mine isn't under recall. We contacted gmac the person we spoke with said yes this car wasn't recalled but, your still under warranty so you won't have to pay anything. We said we understand this but, this car should have been recalled and wasn't and advised we are concerned for the other cars that were produced right before and after mine could have the same condition. She didn't seem too concerned.
I have a 2005 Corvette coupe. The top is separating from the body of the car. The dealer refuses to replace the top even though the panel has completely separated from the frame and the car is unsafe to drive because the repair performed by the dealer has already failed once. The only solution is s new top, and they refused to provide me with one. X.
On 7/12/06 at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle's painted top became detached striking a following vehicle causing minor damage to the second vehicle. Both drivers were able to pull to the side of the road with out further incident and with no injuries. There were no warning signs of the incident, other than the noise made at time of separation. The latch was still intact. Owner alleges having no prior notification of recall 06v-181, and that dealer has yet to be able to replace the top. The vehicle was purchased new in November 2005; recall campaign initiated in may 2006.
My 2005 Corvette removable top panel is delaminating. It could fall off at any time at speed. Gm is being slow, at best, in taking care of this problem.
Delaminated roof panel on 06 Corvette. . Aka. . . Flying roof.
I own a new 2006 Corvette coupe. On July 5th I began to develop a creaking sound near the roof frame and I began to notice wind noise at 60 mph. On July 7th, my painted (victory red) roof panel separated from it's frame. Fortunately it did not blow off while driving and no one was hurt. The fact that gm is/has been aware of the problem and has not issued a recall for all '05/'06 coupes is unbelievable. My dealer has been great to work with but his hands are tied by gm. The painted roofs are backordered until late August and no alternative was offered by gm. In order to be able to use my $50k car, it was necessary for me to purchase a transparent roof. That is not the way to treat loyal customers (this is my 4th vette). Is gm waiting for a motorcylce rider to be decapitated before they issue a recall?.
Delamination of the roof panels.
: the contact stated the vehicle's roof had separated and flew off while driving 40 mph. This was the second time, the vehicle had problems with the roof. A NHTSA recall, # 06v181000 was performed in 05/06 regarding, structure body: roof and pillars, however the recall did not remedy the problem. The dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall.
I purchased a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette in January of this year and have been hearing there was going to be a safety recall on the removable tops. There have been some instances of the tops flying off of the cars at highway speeds. My cars top has come completely off and is undrivable. I am currently working with gm and my local dealership to get this resolved but all I am getting is back talk from the gm representative. All I did to get my top to come off was shut the drivers side door one day and it popped up and almost fell off. I understand these tops are only held on by some kind of urethane glue that is coming loose. The top on my car now has completely come off . Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
: the contact stated while driving 80 mph, the roof separated from the vehicle without warning. It was taken to the dealer who replaced the roof.
While driving about 45 mph I heard a popping sound and then wind noise. I then saw light coming through between the windshield and top. The top had delaminated from the driver side across the front and about 3/4th of the passenger side. I have both tops for this car ( the painted top and the clear top )it was the painted top that delaminated. I removed the painted top and put on the clear top. I took the car to the dealer and they have ordered a new top for the car. If I had been on the interstate highway and driving at the 65 mph speed limit the top would probably have blown off the car and possibly hit another car or caused an accident. The dealer has been very helpful and is trying to get the latest, improved top for me.
I heard cracking and popping of the painted roof of my 2006 Corvette about 2 weeks prior to the whole roof ripping off at only 50 mph. In between that time the car was only driven 3 times and the time before it actually ripped off. I turned around and brought it home halfway to my destination because I did not feel safe. The morning it did come off I was taking it to the dealer to have it checked. It came off on the road I live on thankfully no one was behind me.
For weeks prior to failure, I had heard popping sounds around the painted removable roof that I thought were due to the frame creaking. On the date the roof flew off, I had parked the car at work and it was over 100 degrees outside. I left the parking lot, turned onto a short street, and stopped at a light. When the light turned green, I turned left and the roof flew off at about 25 mph. It landed in the left-turn lane of opposite traffic. I was able to make a u-turn and retrieve the top without anyone hitting it. I've talked to the dealer and gm customer assistance and get different stories. The dealer initially said they could not order a new part because they were back-logged. Then gm customer assistance said that the couldn't provide a replacement because a new roof was being designed and wouldn't be ready for 4-6 weeks, around sometime in August. Today, the dealer said that they were going to order a new roof, have it painted, and use that as a replacement. I told them that I was concerned because I had read on a Corvette forum where some repaired roofs have also separated/DE-laminated in addition to the repair often leaving ugly glue residue on the tops. But mostly, I am hesitant to accept a current roof due to liability concerns should another roof separate from the car and injure another driver. . . Especially a motorcycle rider. Since I am getting different resolutions from the dealer and customer service, I have no idea what is going to happen. However, I did tell the dealer of my concerns of a new roof separating and that I may not be able to accept anything but a redesigned roof. They indicated that at least I would have a roof in place and be able to drive the car. They weren't sure if they could actually order one or not, but felt that they could and that customer service was wrong is saying that only redesigned roofs could be ordered.
I went to the dealer to complain of wind noise on my vehicle. They told me I needed a new windshield. A day before the part was scheduled to arrive, while driving 40 mph the roof panel of my 2005 Corvette separated and flew off. The part is on national backorder, and gm needs to "review" the case with "internal gm parties" before they will provide me with a rental car. I have not had a roof for 3 weeks. . . No eta on part. . . No rental. Customer service rep not helpful, refused to let me speak with a supervisor because she was a manager and they were "not available".
: the contact stated while driving 35 mph the painted roof detached from the vehicle. There is a NHTSA recall, # 06v181000, regarding the structure: body: roof and pillars. The dealership was alerted who explained the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact noticed the adhesive was separating one month prior to the failure however the dealership instructed the contact to continue driving the vehicle until they could get the parts to repair it. Updated 7/13/2006 -.
: the contact stated while driving 25 mph the hard roof panel top ejected from the vehicle into the air and fell backwards behind the vehicle without warning. The contact retrieved the roof panel top from the roadway. The top was damaged due to the sudden ejection. The vehicle was not inspected by the dealer. The manufacturer was alerted. There is a NHTSA recall # 06v181000 regarding the structure: roof and pillars. The VIN was not included in the recall. Updated 7/13/2006 -.
: the contact stated while driving 35 mph the roof panel flew off the vehicle. Although the dealership was alerted, no inspections have been made. The manufacturer has been alerted.
: the contact stated, the interior heat caused the removable roof to warp and separate from the body of the vehicle, on 3 separate occasions. The dealer service technician stated the manufacturer has not provided a repair solution. The manufacturer offered an alternate style replacement roof at a discount. The contact purchased the replacement roof.
Gm has issued a recall on roof that potentially separates and could cause accident; this recall affected my car. I submitted my car for inspection in June 9th, and the dealer stated that the roof could not be repaired - it had to be replaced. The roof was ordered and after a month the wrong part was sent. Now I am told the part will be available in 60 to 90 days; no precise delivery date. In total it could be 90 to 120 days total with me owning a vehicle that potentially could be a hazard, on top of producing a very annoying cracking & popping noise while driving. Gm customer assistance & dealership said they could not do anything about the situation. Meanwhile nobody knows how safe the car is on the road at highway speed.
: the contact stated while driving 50 mph a noise came from the roof of the vehicle. Upon inspection the dealership determined the adhesive that attached the roof to the body of the vehicle detached. The dealer replaced the adhesive however, the problem returned. There is a NHTSA recall, # 06v181000, regarding the roof. The VIN was not included in the recall. Updated 07/03/06.
2006 Corvette coupe, roof delaminating problem.
: the contact stated while driving 20 mph the roof separated from the frame. There was a rubbing squeaking noise heard prior to the separation. There is a NHTSA recall, 06v181000, regarding the body: roof and pillars. The dealer and manufacturer have been contacted and determined the VIN was not included in the recall. The parts to repair the vehicle are not available at this time.
This complaint is about a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a painted roof. My roof had started making noises about 3 weeks prior to my complaint. Shortly after I had noticed that the rear part of the plastic roof had completely separated from the metal frame to which it was glued. I took the car in to the dealer for action and they informed me that they would order a new roof, but that it would take 4-5 weeks to get the new top and that it would take another week or so to get it painted to match my car. I informed them that there was a danger of the roof possibly flying off to which they replied "just go ahead and drive it, we haven't heard of anything like that and we've see much worse than yours" reluctantly and without choice I left the dealership and took the car home where it would sit unless there was zero chance of rain. Due to the separation, any rain would get right into the passenger cabin of the vehicle. This past Friday, June 2, 2006, I brought the car back to the dealer because I received a letter stating my top was in stock. They told me it was in stock, but was being painted and that I would be called when it was ready. Since it was a good day with no chance of rain, I decided to drive the car to work. Leaving my office that evening around 6, my roof completely separated and flew off the car. I had just accelerated onto the main road at a normal pace. I was just reaching around 35-40 mph when I heard a whoosh and suddenly I could see the sky. I saw the panel land in the road behind me, and was able to make a u-turn and retrieve the panel. I was in contact with gm customer service about this and all they could do was offer more excuses as to why I still have no roof for my car and how sorry they were. My car has been sitting useless in my garage now for around 5 weeks. If desired, I have detailed pictures of the roof and the panel that flew off, thankfully no one was behind me when it happened.
Painted roof separated from frame.
: the contact stated recall work was performed on the vehicle and although no failure has occurred, the contact is not satisfied with the solution. The recall is #06v181000 concerning the structure; roof and pillars.
While driving the c6 Corvette with painted roof, the roof flew off, endangering myself and others. That was almost 6 weeks ago and the dealer has not yet provided a fixed roof. The car is un-drivable without a roof.
My 2005 z51 Corvette roof panel frame keeps separating. Just this week the roof panel fall off hitting another vehicle while in traffic. My roof top has been replace going on number 4.
2005 Corvette top delaminated and separated from car. It could have injured a pedestrian or caused another car to crash.
The entire roof panel of my 2005 Corvette coupe detached and flew off the car while I was driving at 30 mph. Fortunately it went over the two cars behind me and landed on the side of the road.
I had separation on my original top and received the "fix" as described in the recall memo by gm, however, the new top with the "fix" is separating also. I don't know how long before gm stops trying to patch the problem. They need to make the top one piece.
Roof panel separated on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette. Vehicle has 1800 miles, damage occurred at 1650 miles. Panel is loose from frame 80% around. If this panel had come off in traffic it could have caused serious damage to others. Gm is aware of problem.
I own a new 2006 Corvette, VIN 1g1yy25u665104970 , purchased from maroone Chevrolet, pembroke pines. The painted (silver) roof panel began to separate last week with no warning. There were no popping, creaking or other sounds. The only indication of the impending separation was increased wind noise at highway speed. The noise began one day while at 70 mph, and would stop if speed was reduced to 60 mph. By the time I arrived home from my 30-minute drive, however, speeds of 55-60 mph were causing the noise, and obvious continued separation. I must use my car, and from an online forum, Corvetteforum, I knew that those taking cars for repair by gm dealers are waiting up to several weeks for the repair, with no car, so I purchased a $1600 clear replacement panel from my own funds to use for now. I feel this is a serious safety issue, and extends far beyond the vehicles Chevrolet will admit are affected. It seems obvious that someone will eventually be seriously injured, or if the circumstances are right there could even be death as an immediate or secondary result of roof separation while at speed. We owners deserve a prompt and effective fix. The attempt by gm at filling the voids with foam glue clearly does not work, as seen from those returning the reworked tops having subsequent failure. I don't know if prescribing a specific remedy is within your jurisdiction, but since gm has transparent panels, and those are not separating, owners should receive these in the interim. Those of us who purchased them on our own due to the defect in our original top should be reimbursed as well, to encourage prompt and complete replacement of all affected parts from use on the public roadways.
