1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2020

Code p1101 sitting in a parking lot in check engine light came on within 24 hours of buying the car.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2019

I just bought my Cruze and the check engine light was on due to needing a mass air flow sensor. The engine was hesitating on pulling out from red lights and stop signs, and going down the highway when you accelerate to a faster speed. So I had the sensor replaced and it did not resolve the issue, but the check engine light went out.

3 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2019

About a week ago I was driving home when my car decided to shift super hard and my rpm was jumping up scary high then my check engine light turned on and now it won't shift right or my rpm goes up really high the code that popped up was p0700.

4 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2018

We have had an issue with a chemical smell when the defrost is on since we purchased the vehicle in September 2015. When taken back to the dealership, they could not find any reason for the smell. It fogs the windshield with a film, causes headaches and light headedness. It is what I believe to be the smell of coolant burning, but nothing was ever found so we just continued to drive it. On 8/15/2018, the fan kicked on very high, we received the ac was being shut off error due to the temperature and the check engine light came on. The very odd thing about this is that the temperature never showed it was high. The gauge showed 1 line over half towards the hot side. Got it home and let it cool down and realized the coolant reservoir was empty. I refilled it and the fan went back to running as it normally would. I decided to check it again today and the reservoir was empty again. I have not had it looked at again yet, but I think maybe the initial coolant issue just became a larger one. I have seen multiple people complain of both of these issues. Has there not been any recall for this? I am going to have it looked at again but I feel like for the amount of people with these issues with this year of Cruze something should have been done by now to resolve this.

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2017

After starting the vehicle and driving forward the dash screen started to show different "check" warnings. Check stability control, check power steering. The check engine light came on as so did most of the dash indicator lights. The power steering stopped and the engine temporarily quit. The engine responded again and while driving the dash went dark and the car died. I had to turn the ignition off and restart the car. This is the third time this has occurred. The last event was while driving through a parking lot.

6 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

2016 ecm reprogramming recall ever since I brought my car in for the recall in 2016 to have the ecm reprogrammed, I have had severe issues with very rough idling, slow acceleration, and inconsistent fuel usage. Check engine light comes on and lists several sensors that need to be replaced. We replaced all of them and the problem still comes back. Now the codes indicate there is a catastrophic issue with the ecm and chevy will not cover it even though this issue started from their own recall.

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2015

On 12-5-15 I was on my way to CT from mass and was on 91. About 45 minutes into the trip the car began to loose power and the check engine light came on and the service stablitrack light came on. As soon as the light came on the temperature gauge and rpm gauge would fling up and down quickly! I immediately went from 65 mph to 30 mph. ( I was almost rear ended by a car behind me) I coasted my way to the right lane and was able to get off the exit. The car took about 4 hours to go back to normal. ( I returned to mass, I had to take the back way home and avoid the highway as the car still had reduce speed) the car will return to normal and the check engine light will go off. Everyday now the check engine light will come on and it will say service stablitrack. The car immediately looses power and you can hear the engine (sounds like a fan blowing hard) the transmission will not shift. The rpm will jump to 4-5 while only getting to a speed of 35 mph. The dealer has no idea what I am talking about. This car was bought in January of 2015 and has less than 65,000 miles on it. I have read a few complaints about this similar situation happening to the same car I have. This is a safety issue!!! the car has been serviced on time!!! please help me!! I refuse to take the highway as I never know when this is going to happen. . . . .

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

My check engine light will not clear no matter how much work I have done to my car. It's had roughly 5 grand worth of repairs and it's still shaking when it idled or jumps forward when I accelerate after a red light or stop sign.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2015

I was driving my car on the way to work one day and out of no where going down my hill my traction control light and check engine lights came on and my dash board said "engine power reduced". It wouldn't let me accelerate so I stopped and shut off the car. I started it 5 minutes later and it ran normal but the check engine light was still on. On the way home from work it did it 2 more times. Its extremely dangerous to drive because when all those lights come on your car goes from 60mph to 10mph in 5 seconds. If youre driving and someone is directly behind you theyre going to crash into you. After a day or two I made an appt. To get it looked at and I kept driving it because I need to get to work. Now the car not only says "engine power reduced" but it also says " service traction control" but thats not even whats wrong with the car. Its the throttle body. Now Chevrolet is expecting me to pay 500 to fix it and I dont have that, they wont rent me a rental car and I have no other way to work. I pay for insurance for the car through them but apparently anything thats wrong with my car isnt covered by any of the insurance that I bought from them. This is dangerous to drive around and I'm pissed that they don't care or sell me this crap insurance that doesnt cover anything important. I only bought the car 1 year and 4 months ago. . . There shouldnt be problems with it. The car was in perfect condition when I bought it from quirk Chevrolet in manchester, nh.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

Was driving vehicle when the engine light came on and the computer flashed that the engine power was reduced. The car immediately dropped speed in the middle of traffic and I was able to coast to the side of the road with out being stuck by any cars behind me. Had I been on a highway I could have been killed. I have the computer that shows error codes when the check engine light comes on and it read that it was the throttle body. Now when I turn the care on it sometimes will immediately say reduced power. I called chevy and they said it would be diagnosed by one of their dealerships. The first dealership said I will need to wait until March to come in, the next 2 weeks from now. In the meantime chevy thinks it's safe to drive my car like this. A quick search of the internet shows this is not an uncommon problem for chevy cars.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

The first occurance happened on Jan. 20th 2015 on my way to work, twice. I noticed because the radio turned off and the service esp flashed with the traction light coming on with multiple other lights flashing. All of this including the radio flashed/turned off and on for about 2 minutes. Over the next week this happened 5 or 6 times. All of these happened while going between 30 and 40 mph and on trips between 30-45 minutes. I had about a week with none of this happening and then on Feb. 8th I was driving home, 20 mins from start to finish and twice the engine power reduced came on and I could not drive any where. I was going about 35 mph. I was able to pull over and turn my car off and on both times and make it home. Now my check engine light is on and I'm not sure if I can even drive my car or if it will die on me again.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

I purchased a used 2011 chevy Cruze lt three months ago. Prier owner owned the vehicle for 3 years and hardly drove it. I was sitting at a light when the check engine light came on the the "engine power reduced" flashed on my screen. The car slowed to 2 mph. I pulled over and turned off the vehicle. Later I turned the car back on, check engine light came on. When I started to drive "service esp" flashed on my screen, then "service traction" flashed on my screen following by "engine power reduce. " this happened to me 3 times in the same trip and is very dangerous. I thought maybe it was because of the snowy weather and freezing temperature? anyone have this happen? how can I fix it? help!?.

13 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the tires started shaking and the vehicle slowly stalled. The contact restarted the vehicle and after 10 seconds the vehicle stalled again. After four restarts the check engine light and service power steering message illuminated and the vehicle would not restart. The contact was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000. Cs.

14 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2014

On this date we scheduled a oil change with a dealer who has performed all maintenance, recalls and repairs since the purchase of our new car. We where notified that the car was ready for pick up that morning as we arrived we paid our invoice, the consultant made us aware that the engine light came on (first time since new?) this consultant did not document this engine light to our records. Well, the engine light kept going off and on during the next 10k miles (2 oil change later, out of warranty, my falt) I had this check engine light diagnosed by our dealer and they had the codes and then futher tryed to correct the problem. They wanted $800. 00 to install a new air intake maniflod and throttle body then continue to test for more problems with no garrantee of repair. I could not afford the repair and declined the fix. The other problem surrounding this car since April 21, 2014 was that the fuel gauge would not show full after fill up and would move up and down the scale on the gauge. The ac would come on at stange times when running the heater? well any ways that was 7 hours at the dealer and made for a long day. I had to return to pick up the cover they forgot to install over the spark plugs, and complained about the leather sets being soaking wet with water and that the car has had these problems since April 2014 under warrantee, the dealer did not want to help us? I purchased this car from them and purchased the 35k oil change extended warrantee and bumper to bumper warrantee? this dealer did all ! the maintenance, recalls and repairs. I'm glad we didn't go over the 1000 foot cliff at yellowstone when the brakes decided not to work (we learned later of the brake recall) they have a excuse for every question you ask, no reports on the all point exspection on our brakes and tires, password problem they say? I'm ready to buy a truck elsewhere now, poor gm an chevy.

15 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while traveling 40 mph, the vehicle decreased in acceleration and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and the failure persisted. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was diagnosed by a private mechanic and it was advised that the vacuum switch needed be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 47,000.

16 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2014

Turned on car in the morning and received 2 messages of "engine power reduced", "service stabili-trac", service traction control" as well as a check engine light. Engine would not go above 1500 rmp's. Took it into dealer and was told that I had a transmission leak and because they didn't have time they wanted me to reschedule for the following week. Problem continued to happen and on my way in to work on 02/11/14 the problem happened two times in the morning and was forced to put car in park turn off engine and restart. Then happens 3 times once on a very busy highway into downtown denver and twice in downtown. Called dealership and was told that I needed to bring it in. Was told that it was the "throttle body" which is a $450. 00 fix not covered under power train warranty . With so many people having this problem and almost being hit every time it happens due to it happening abruptly when cold it is a clear safety issue and needs to be recalled. I sense that if they don't there will be a class action law suite in their future.

17 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2014

My engine sputtered & the engine power reduction message, traction light & check engine light came on. Upon further investigation, this may be due to the throttle body. There are many complaints of this same issue on the chevy Cruze forum & many have had this happen while driving, causing the auto to stop or slow to 5 miles per hour. This is a safety hazard. One complaint was of the woman driving on the interstate & almost being hit by a semi. This needs to be a safety recall immediately. This is clearly a factory part issue. This is happening on these autos that do not have much mileage.

18 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

1. 4 liter 2011 Cruze heater blowing cool air. Gm inspection done on 10/17/13 and they said everything was good. They told me not to worry about the intermittent check engine light that keeps coming on. This happened within two weeks. We added a almost a quart of coolant following the directions in the owners manual. Now a month later it is a quart low again blowing cool air from the heater and a strong sweet smell permeates the car. The car also fails to properly brake at times and gain speed at times. It has stalled while idling at stoplights. There is a oily residue on the plastic shield located near the oil pan.

19 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2013

The car check engine light came on, then it said power reduced. Luckily no one was behind me. If I let the car set for a bit, it will start and run ok. The problem occurs only in the winter when it's damp or foggy and the temperature is at freezing. In the winter of 2013, it happened twice. It happened again on 01/07/14. I had the car towed to a mechanic, and was told that although the car's computer told him when it happened, it could not be determined why it happened. When it is warmer outside, it ran fine and probably will until it gets colder again! I asked the dealer if this was a problem anyone else was experiencing and was told no. Based on what I see from postings on various websites, I am not alone! the throttle body appears to be an obvious a factory defect, but gm won't offer a recall. I commute about 60 miles to work each way, so the car is well beyond its warranty. It would be nice to not have to watch the weather report to decide if I think the car is safe to drive because it might cold enough to have it happen again. I was contacted by Chevrolet customer service, and was told that they would check into the problem with my car. All they did was refer me to my dealership where it would be fixed at my expense, and did not recognize or admit that this is a problem with the design of the engine (factory defect). Gm will not recognize that there is a problem with the 2011 Cruze that many people are dealing with. The conditions under which the car loses power (cold weather) cannot be simulated by the dealership mechanics because their diagnostics in a heated garage. The problem has not and will not show up when they test it. When the car loses power it happens abruptly. This is a safety concern as the car cannot maintain its speed, and during heavy traffic flow it is likely that someone is going to end up in a crash as a result. It is a defect with the car!.
