Three transmission failures in 5-1/2 years, with total mileage approximately 45,000. . All three failures occurred on interstates, resulting in loss of power & drivability causing immediate and severe danger of high-speed collision form other traffic. First failure in April 2013 after 6 months of ownership, under 1,500 miles. Clutch plate disintegrated. Problem was determined to be a factory defect of the transmissiom; car was repaired by gm (not replaced). In may 2014 complained to dealer (hawk Chevrolet of bridgeview) of problems with clutch - that it was falling to the floor, there was difficulty shifting. Dealer claimed to be unable to find any problem. Complaimed of same problem in October 2014 (gm case 71-1379518666); again dealer "unable to find a problem". 2nd failure occurred August 2015; clutch plate was stuck to transaxle. Mileage was 14,500. Gm case #8-1545250753. Gm tried to attribute failure to "normal wear". Ultimate covered the repair but refused to admit any defect. 3rd failure occurred March 9, 2018. Again, clutch pedal fell to floor and car became undrivable. Car was towed to dealer. Gm case #8-4000371239.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. While preparing to park, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle accelerated. The failure occurred while driving 9 mph in a parking lot. The clutch and brake pedals were applied simultaneously to stop the vehicle. The failure occurred regularly when the vehicle was in second or third gear. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 45,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated and stalled while driving various speeds. While driving on an incline, the contact had to keep the clutch pedal depressed in first and second gear to prevent the vehicle from stalling. The accelerator pedal also had to remain depressed to maintain acceleration. The vehicle also stalled when the gear was in reverse. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than once, but the failure could not be duplicated. In addition, the air conditioning and heat were inoperable. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 100.
My 2012 Chevrolet Cruze eco with the 6-speed manual transmission has occasionally refused to go into 4th gear, and grinds occasionally when going into 2nd gear. I get the grind at about 1200 rpm and up. Most of my shifting is done at or below 2500 rpm for fuel economy reasons. The clutch pedal can be pushed to the floor, the engine rev-matched, and it will still balk/grind in those gears. This is my second manual transmission car after putting 70,000 miles on my first one, so I know how to drive a manual transmission without grinding the gears. The car presently has 4700 miles on it, and the problem started at approximately 1000 miles. I'm worried that I might need to do a quick shift to accelerate quickly in an emergency situation and be unable to do so thanks to the balkiness of the transmission.
