The car suddenly lacked power and was making a strange noise. The oil level suddenly dropped. Then the engine light came on. We took the car to the dealer. And a few days later we received a letter from Chevrolet about extending the warranty on the pcv valve due to failure. We contacted our personal service person who confirmed that was inline with the pcv failure. We then took it to the Chevrolet dealer who said it would cost 9k to repair despite it being a known issue. This could have resulted in an accident if we had not caught it.
My engine is making whistling sounds, the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv), is failing. This is causing my check engine light to flicker on and off. The diagnostic codes report that the turbo seal may be cracked due to this issue above.
Seems to bang into gear when driving/picking up speed. Acts like engine stumble. Had pcv valve replaced under recall due to squeeking noise. Vehicle started making same noise again and doesnt shift correctly. Mechanic advised of incorrect crank case psi due to pcv valve problem. Vehicle only has 27,000 miles and shouldnt have this problem.
Gm service bulletin pip5197j (as amended 10/2018) describes multiple issues with the pcv and non return valve on this engine. If either part fails it is a costly repair and can lead to oil spraying out of the valve cover/intake manifold. This happened to my vehicle in October and has happened to a huge number of other vehicles in the past 6 years. The oil expectorate from the engine can burn and cause smoke to enter the passenger compartment leading to respiratory issues for the passengers. The issue is known to gm but they will not issue a recall or service warranty extension. In addition to the smoke issue, the oil can also form a hazard on the roadway through oil droplets. A very tiny stopper ball in the valve can malfunction, leading to a cascade of failures throughout the engine. The service bulletin covers 4 specific models of vehicles from 2011-2019.
This car has many problems. I am surprised it has no recalls. The problems start two years ago. The valve cover started leaking. Oil was everywhere. Got that replaced but it happened again, and then it happened again. Apparently the pcv valve is built into the valve cover. We are about to be on our 4th valve cover. It's currently inoperable. The water pump had to be replaced, the whole engine had to be replaced. This car is a money pit, and anyone who has ever bought it should be refunded for real. It's a piece of crap and has had nothing but problems, and causes nothing but stress. I will never buy another chevy ever again.
Radio or touch panel restarted then vehicle began shaking and making vibration noises enigine noises error light began flashing and stability track was on the driver information center about a mile further down the road everything cleared up to include the flashing engine light. Now it is on again and doesnt clear up cannot drive it. Recently have replaced at my expense the pcv cover and pcv twice, the entire ac delco intake due to massive oil consumpotion the crank seal due to squealing the coil pack and plugs due to a cracked insulator and electrolisis on the contacts. I now have 114,000 miles on it and read there is a recall on the battery grounding system that causes this current system and covers up to 120,000 miles? I searched and it has 0 recalls on this vehicle.
I have have to have a pcv value cover/intake manifold replaced in my car 3 times. My car is covered under warranty but that warranty will expire. I will have to have is replaced again at some and it seems that no one is asking why this part has to be replaced so frequently in a car that is less than 5 year old. There is a code that appears but it is months after the car starts to surge when you turn it on and feel like it is going to cut out when idling. I live in the city and cannot hesitate to drive when the light turns as it may cause an accident.
