I purchased a used as is 2014 chevy Cruze with 141000 miles on April 4th 2022. I had been well pleased with the car up until the linkage for the automatic transmission became defective on may 5th 2022. It would not go into any gear. So I opened up the hood and immediately identified the problem, someone had used zip ties to secure the linkage to the transmission linkage. I called my local auto parts store and they had the proper repair kit for it. I replaced all the missing parts with new ones. Now the vehicle will not go into any forward drive gear. It will however go into reverse. My research on you tube that other mechanics have posted lead me to believe that either the transmission is low on transmission fluid, or the fuse could be blown, or the tcm (transmission control module) is defective. Several authorized dealerships have reported this issue to gm, however gm denies that the transmission they used for the 2008 through 2014 has had any issues, although several forums and dealerships have reported differently. Man up gm and fix your foul up!.

2012 Chevrolet Cruze LS with 51,000 miles. Event occurred Nov. 25, 2018. Without prior symptoms, the car began to jerk while driving forward at city speeds. Made it to destination a short distance away. Check engine light came on. Attempted to move car, and the reverse gear would not engage. Drove (limped) the car in d to a local autozone to have the trouble code read. P0700 tcm issue. Still no reverse. Upon leaving, nosed out on busy 5 lane thoroughfare and the car no longer would go forward as the transmission had disengaged. Could have been disastrous if this occurred in the middle of the busy road. Pushed the car back to the autozone lot. Nov 26, 2018 called gm and opened a case but was told there are no recalls and we are out of warranty, must have a certified gm shop assess the issue at our cost. Nov 27, 2018 towed to local gm dealer where car was purchased for evaluation. Complaint:this car is out of warranty on time only. It has a sealed tranny and the first recommended fluid change is 97,500 miles. Obviously driven carefully and daily without neglect for only 51,000 miles. Should not have major un-warrantied transmission issues. Researched this condition on forums etc. There are enough instances with very similar or same symptoms that gm knows of this and should make it good.

Pcm failure almost had numerous accidents. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. It has been reproduced by other people after explaining the issue. Also has been reproduced on another gm product around the same year. Vehicle has been inspected by an independent shop, the only thing that was found was excessive brake wear in rear. Problem appeared when I first started driving the car. It is definitely a software issue. Software should be polling the wheel speed sensor while in engine off. There were no idiot lights. Recently, on a private road that had an inclination, I reproduce the problem. The vehicle obtained at least two miles an hour rolling backwards for about a minute. The speedometer did not register any speed. I did not want to test this any longer for fear of engine starting back up and damaging the transmission. Approaching a stop softly applying the brakes with an incline, whether at a controlled intersection or in traffic, when the auto engine shutdown activates, the vehicle rolls backwards.
(jft missing dealer) tl the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. While operating the vehicle, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle hesitated when changing gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.
At first, I started the car one day and the engine light came up and as I tried to put the transmission in d the "d" light started flashing (not steady as normal) and there was some noise from the transmission. I put it back to "p" and turned the car off and started it again. Then it acted normally. Later on, it happened suddenly while I was driving (the transmission snapped and the "d" light started flashing). I took it to the dealer for diagnosis, and they found that the transmission control module (tcm) was defective. I searched online and found that there were many recalls on the tcm for 2012 & 2013 chevy Cruze, but mine was not identified in those recalls as per the dealer. I was under the impression that gm will investigate the case and feed me back, but I found out today that they do not do investigations unless it comes from the NHTSA.

My transmission started slipping while driving to work on the highway at 70 mph. The car gave me 2 warnings, one for the traction control needing serviced and one for the transmission needing serviced. I drove the car to my dealer explained the problem to the dealer and stated that I didn't think I was going to make it to them. The dealership service center let the car sit for a few hours and then checked for codes and mysteriously could not find any problem. The problem always starts when the vehicle is going up hill, the transmission lights starts blinking, the car starts sputtering and I lose speed very unsafe in traffic! when sitting at a stop light with the brake pedal mashed to the floor the car lunges forward. I have searched online for similar problems and have found that many Cruze owners are having the same problem and gm refuses to help there does seem to be an associated recall but it doesn't state the transmission problem in the discription. (NHTSA 16v502000) power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm). The service centers can't fix the problem because the car is not showing any codes when they check and I'm always sent home.
While driving in town I took off from a stoplight and my car all of sudden did not have drive, it just revved. Could not get it to move forward at all. Car never shifted right to begin with. We had reverse gear but no forward. Changed transmission and tcm and the car will move but continues to rev to high. Cannot drive the car the way it is. Car only has 55000 miles on it.

When I am driving down the high way or if I am going up the hill my vehicle feels like it is going to stall so I have to pull over to the side of the road. It also was a salvage title and I had no idea when I bought it I found out it was a salvage vehicle after I took it to the dealership to fix my recall in which they claim they fixed my recall but I took it to another mechanic and they told me the recall was not fixed. The recall was a transmission control module. Also when I bought the car I took it back three times and they said since I paid cash for it there was nothing they could do I feel like this was a lemon.
After my purchase of a brand new chevy Cruze LS I did notice that it was not shifting good. The car was not shifting down or up and when shifting down very hesitant, almost like there were no brakes. After bringing it to the dealer several times with them telling me there was nothing wrong with it and several adjustments to the transmission control module, transmission overhaul and parts replacements, I was involved in an accident on the highway. The car still does not work right and I believe this accident is related to this car's drive tran and leads me to think that the product safety should be related to the NHTSA,.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that the gear shift failed to switch into the park position without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,800.
On February 17th, 2012 I purchased a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze from a local dealership. Unbeknownst to me by July of 2014 my car would be in two different dealerships on five separate occasions for transmission problems. March 7th, 2013 (32,512 miles); repair: checked for codes, no transmission code; vehicle re-programmed with updated software. September 30th, 2013 (36,623 miles); repair: transmission removed, found metal contaminating pistons, tcm failure, transmission reassembled. October 17th, 2013 (36,967 miles); repair: technician test drove with customer, verified concern. Hesitation, hard downshift experienced shudder from stop. Compared to a stock vehicle; same hesitation and hard downshift however does not exhibit acceleration bump from stop. Vehicle repair (completed 7 days later on October 24th, 2013): failed tcm and valve body, verified on test drive. Replaced tcm and valve body. January 23rd, 2014 (mileage unknown, was not provided with work order for this visit); dealership would not confirm problem after driving vehicle for only 15 miles. They were informed that the issue is random and not constant. No repairs performed on this visit. Since being turned away by the original dealership on January 23rd, 2014 I recorded approximately 19 instances of my vehicle either hesitating, “chugging” when accelerating, “banging” itself into gear, almost stalling, and the vehicle actually “jumping” forward while my foot was on the break at stop lights. It was when I almost stalled within a 6 way intersection that I contacted another Chevrolet dealership (July 10th, 2014) for a second opinion. Within two days of leaving my vehicle at the dealership (July 24th, 2014) it was confirmed by the service manager that in fact the car was not driving properly. The vehicle is still at the dealership as of today (July 30th, 2014). This is not a vehicle I feel is safe or reliable.
Have had the car less than 1 year and had 50 miles on the car when I bought it 8/2011. On 6/19/2012 traveling on the highway at 65 miles an hour my 2011 chevy Cruze (14,500 miles) suddenly began slowing and the engine was revving high. I pulled over and a light on the dash appeared indicating "emissions problems" according to the manual. It is an automatic transmission but the car didn't want to shift any higher than 3rd gear and would go no faster than 30-35 miles an hour without revving in the danger zone. Car was towed to dealer. The transmission control module failed. $1300 for the part plus labor costs and not covered by warranty. Worried it may occur again because I am finding similar stories posted online.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle could not be shifted into gear, causing the transmission to fail. The contact pulled the vehicle over and the transmission control module light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be inspected and he was informed that the transmission control module sent an erroneous signal to the instrument panel, causing the vehicle not to shift into the next gear. The dealer repaired the vehicle but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 33,000.
My 2011 chevy Cruze has an erratic shifting transmission. At times it is confused and hunts for gears. At other times, it has banged into gear. Most of my driving is in stop and go traffic and not highway driving. The scariest part is the lack of acceleration at times when stepping on the gas. Several months ago, while exiting a shopping center, I almost got hit by a bus I was a little into the road and had time to go before the bus got to me, but when I stepped on the gas, nothing happened! luckily, the bus had room to go around me! I have complained to the dealer many times about this situation, but am told there is no new update or transmission reflash from gm. So, I thought it was time to step things up because I did a lot of research on the internet concerning this very transmission issue and lack of acceleration for the 2011 Cruze and it seems to be a common complaint of most 2011 Cruze owners unless they have had something called a trifecta tune done to their cars, at their own expense. They claim this procedure "cures" the shifting problem. First off, my car is a lease, so I cannot modify my car in any way. Secondly, why should I pay hundreds to fix something that is gm's problem. About six months ago, I contacted gm customer service. From about July, 2012 to Nov. I have been hooked up with three different people who were with the early response team in the business resource center. There were a ton of phone calls from them, but it was all talk and no action except for a new tcm that was installed in Aug. At 10,196 miles. That did nothing to improve the transmission shifting. I then contacted gm corporate on Nov. 7th to explain my problem. From then until today, Jan. 21, 2013 I dealt with a gentlemen. Finally, on Jan. 15, an engineer was sent to my dealer. Conclusion- like everyone else with this problem- "operating as designed"! I feel this is a safety issue.
2-10-12 - 15422 mileage car towed to dealership - would start / shifter would go into gear / car would not drive - check engine, traction control & stabilitrak light were on. - shaft detent lever switch replaced. 3-12-12 - 16471 mileage - brought to dealership car would not engage from the stop position to acceleration & poor gas mileage since 2-10 repair - caused to roll into intersection. - control solenoid valve & transmission control module replaced. Could not duplicate gas mileage problem 4-25-12 - brought into dealership for loud popping & jolting into gear from the stop position to acceleration - dealer ship could not duplicate/ no repair 5-5-12 17661 mileage car towed to dealership - driving on highway 65mph / burning smell coming through a/c vents/ transmission hot (overheat) /traction control & stabilitrak light appeared. Dealer ship could not duplicate/ no repair ( opened case with gm 71-1069459525) 5-18-12 18165 mileage car towed to dealership - driving on highway 65mph / burning smell coming through a/c vents/ transmission hot (overheat) /traction control & stabilitrak light & transmission light appeared. Plus continued poor gas mileage since 2/12 fix. Transmission control module replaced (again) 6-6-12 18800 mileage brought to dealership ( currently there) transmission light appeared upon starting the engine after sitting for 8hrs. - intermittent burning smell from engine noticed after 15-20 mile drives.
The vehicle experiences a severe delay in throttle and transmission response, to the point of endangerment. When driving at 60-65mph and commanding passing power, the vehicle normally will bog down as the pedal is depressed, then disengage the gear, wait up to 3 seconds, rev up 500-1,000rpm and then engage the gear and begin moving forward (at which point it is within a few hundred rpm of redline and bounces off of the fuel cutoff. . . . While in drive, not manual mode). The transmission also shifts harshly up and down randomly. Upon a cold start, the vehicle nearly stalls when coming out of a parking garage with an incline, then proceeds to idle at 1,800rpm and push the vehicle forward with nearly enough thrust to cause a collision if the brake pedal is not stood on. The vehicle has almost stalled on me while driving on flat ground, a handful of times (sometimes when I turn on the rear defroster, sometimes just coming to a stop). Additionally, there is a pulsating that can be felt throughout the car (most notably through the brake pedal) and a grinding noise coming from the engine bay. The vehicle has been brought in to power Chevrolet in mesa, arizona where these concerns were brought up, including the concern for safety, at which point the ecm and tcm were reset to default values (which made the transmission even more horrible, due to deleting the adaptive values). I was spoken to like a child and given a printout explaining how an automatic transmission and auto-stop feature worked and told that the pulsating (which is widely acknowledged as a bad ac compressor part for this vehicle and was mentioned to the dealer when the car was brought in) and other issues were non-existent. I guess that I will have to wait for these parts to fail, hoping and praying that it doesn't kill me or my passengers in the process, in order to get these issues addressed.
I have a 2011 chevy Cruze. I just purchased in Nov 2010. One month after I had the car I had to take it into the dealer due to steering noise when wheel was turned left/right. They had to lubricate some parts by the wheels. Starting in Feb 2011 I notice the car started to lurch forward when you took you foot of the brake. It bogs when you take off, you will go then the car bogs and then it goes again. When its going into gears (I have an automatic 6 speed) its rough and the car jerks whenever you accelerate or when your slowing down. When you try to pass anyone the car bogs and then goes(not good at all). You can apply more pressure on the petal to reach your needed speed the car will bog then go. It has been in the shop twice this March. The first time they said they reprogrammed the tcm but I still had the same problem. The second time they kept it for two days and the service manager drove it then he drove another Cruze on the lot and I was told this is the way the car drives and I will get used to it. This is a very dangerous thing to get used too. It is an unsafe car and im stuck with it for 5 more yrs. Totally uncalled for. I have read other customer complaints about this on the consumer guide automotive and it states that gm is aware of this problem but they only state to reprogram the tcm which does nothing! the service mechanics cant do anything because they state there's nothing to do. These Cruzes are an accident waiting to happen and the problem needs to be fixed. I am terrified of driving this new car due to these problems. But im told there's nothing they can do because there is no problem that's how it drives. Gm needs to correct this problem before someone gets hurt or killed in this car. I do alot of city driving and this is not good for this to happen. It should be smooth take off and stopping and it isn't. I have never had a car that drives like this. I cant take it back in because im told there's nothing that can be done . . Please look into. . . . .
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, she would notice that the vehicle would hesitate or jerk forward. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised her that the tcm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was reprogrammed for the tcm yet the failure persisted and the vehicle became hesitant to acceleration attempts within moments of leaving the dealer. The vehicle was then taken back to dealer and they advised her that all of her particular year, make and model vehicle operated in that manner. The failure mileage was approximately 24. Updated 07/21/11 updated 3/20/12.
