1 Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 11/27/2019

Daughter has complained about loss of power while on the interstate in kansas city. On this particular morning, my husband pulled out of the driveway and the car would not go out of first gear. He was able to drive it down the street to the Chevrolet dealership. It was initially just diagnosed with a cracked turbo. We told them to replace it. They replaced it and then determined the transmission was burned up. The mechanic said he thought the fact that the turbo didn't work properly caused the transmission to burn out at 85,000 miles. Have had problems on and off for a year with the turbo and have always taken it in and had those issues fixed as soon as the light comes on the dash. Finally there was a recall on the turbo and we had the actuator replaced in Nov. 2019 and less than a month later, the turbo cracked and the transmission failed and no light ever came on, on the dash. Had to spend $5400 to fix these issues. I'm concerned and don't understand why there isn't a complete recall on the turbos as we've read in many places that people have had problems with these turbos, leaving huge costs to consumers. Contacted Chevrolet and of course, they refuse to help with any of these costs.

3 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Automatic transmission failure can result in vehicle rolling backwards for 3-5 seconds in duration after releasing brake while. While on flat ground - this causes danger to other driver as the expect other vehicles to be moving after a traffic light turns green. While on an incline - this condition may pose a danger to pedestrians and other motorists as the automatic transmission will allow the vehicle to roll backwards a great distance. The distance and speed of travel backwards will vary based on angle of incline of street or road. When this condition occurs - the driver is completely unaware and may not be able to apply the brake in enough time to prevent collision with other vehicles or pedestrians. This condition happens when: 1 - transmission is hot (about 40 min drive time) 2 - brake is depressed for longer than 3 seconds while sitting at light. 3 - releasing brake may or may not result in this condition happening. Service 1 - the vehicle shows no codes for transmission failure. 2 - multiple gm dealers have confirmed software of vehicle is up to date. 3 - multiple dealers have mixed statements if they can duplicate the issue or not. Dealer 1 says - "it's your driving habits. We reset the computer and it will re-learn how you drive. " dealer 2 says - "we were able to duplicate your issue and are awaiting a response from gm" - when speaking to gm they indicated they never received an email form the dealer. Condition was first seen at approximately 68k miles and has continued on/off until current mileage of 98k. Dealer and gm corporate have had vehicle for greater than 30 days and are unable to provide resolution. As a firefighter - it is my professional opinion that this condition may present a risk to public welfare.

4 Transmission Failure problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 12/26/2018

While the engine is running, the transmission suddenly and without warning fails. Car is in gear but doesn't move. First occurrence was when car was parked in the morning and put into reverse to blackout and second occurrence was a couple weeks later when stopped at a red light. Turning the car off for a few minutes seems to temporarily correct the problem. I am worried the transmission will fail suddenly while in an intersection or other dangerous situation.

Very dangerous situation! 120. 000 miles and no prior indication of any issues. Just contacted Chevrolet to see if any assistance is available. This car has been great except for the coolant issues. . . . Until this! the car is no longer driveable!.

13 Transmission Failure problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 04/07/2017

Transmission failed (3rd gear not working) on April 7,2017. Car had 70,384 miles at time of failure. Car has a transferable 5yr/100,000 powertrain warranty. Because the initial failure was diagnosed by my local licensed repair facility, gm will not honor powertrain warranty until it was verified by a authorized Chevrolet dealership. That verification was performed today, may 30, 2017. . . Vehicle currently has 74,000+/- miles. When I spoke by phone with gm customer service on April 24,2017, gm assigned a chase file and said that upon verification of the failure by an authorized Chevrolet dealer, they (gm) would work with me to determine a level of monetary participation for the repair. I called gm today, upon word from the chevy dealer that they did indeed verify the failure of the transmissions 3rd gear. Now, gm informs me that they will not honor the warranty and all costs must be covered by the vehicle owner. This is not right. I am attaching a file of the receipt from the initial evaluation performed at my local repair shop.

18 Transmission Failure problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

Failure Date: 06/27/2012

2012 Chevrolet Cruze lt1 rs package, automatic transmission on June 27 I was in murray, ky driving home from murray state university. I was in heavy traffic. After the light changed I gave the accelerator a light tap to move the car forward. It started slowly but after a few seconds, it seems that the car stalled. The transmission downshifted and when I gave the accelerator a tap, nothing. At this time, I was certain I would be in an accident. Again, I gave the accelerator a tap (mind you, I didn't mash the petal to the floor board, I gave it enough of a tap to switch the gear). The car did nothing, and again my concern was that I would be rear ended soon. Another tip (again, I did not mash the pedal to the floor), and finally the turbo charger kicked in and the car switched gears. But when the car shifted gears, it was an explosion of force that jerked and lurched the car forward including my self. I was glad to get moving since traffic was heavy. Since this incident, it has happened 5 times that the car has been sluggish to respond, and it have continued to shift gears with random jerks and often explosive force that jerks both car and passenger. I have had this to 2 dealerships, and they say they cannot reproduce it, and they both tell me that this is a normal thing, and that this transmission will make erratic gear changes. I am concerned for my safety with I drive this car, and hope I am not stranded in traffic when the transmission fails to shift properly.
