1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2020

Engine overheating "stationary and in motion" seems to be a common problem with most 2006 and above. I replaced the thermostat, the water pump, I performed a radiator flush, replaced the ect sensor, and still the car over heats. I did a compression test and it's fine, I checked the head gaskets and they are fine. The oil looks fine, the radiator fluid looks fine. I went through a car wash after replacing the water pump, thermostat, and ect sensor. The car still over heats, both at idle and after driving 2 miles or 10 miles. I've been told it's either an electrical issue, a radiator issue, or engine electrical issue. I can not keep putting money into a car that is only worth $2,500. Many other people I have noticed posted the same issue of over heating and nothing is being done about it. It should be a chevy recall, and repaired by the manufacturer. Here is an example of 1 other complaint:. . . . . . . . On November 17th the vehicle started to tell me that it was overheating and to turn a/c off. A/c was not even on because it was cold and the heat was blowing cold air. The vehicle then told me while I was trying to get to a safe location to pull over that the engine power was reduced and the vehicle stated to crawl along the road. When the vehicle was looked at where I pulled over there was minimal oil in the vehicle and it had blow coolant all over the driver side wheel well from what looked like the overflow tube. Oil was put in the vehicle so that I could drive it to a safe location. On November 18th I went to start the vehicle to go to work and without going any place but sitting in the driveway it started to tell me that the engine was overheating and to turn a/c off. The vehicle was towed. The dealership that I use worked on it and replaced the temp control and thermostat and did a complete oil change. Many other Equinox owners are having same issue.

2 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2019

We bought our son this vehicle when he got his license back in sept 2019. The front passenger seat sensor isn't working causing the passenger air bag to not be safely engaged. This is a huge safety issue and should be a recall and replaced immediately. Also, there is hardly any heat coming from the blowers. We had it in multiple times but noone can figure it out. We have replaced: heater core, water pump, thermostat, radiator, resevoir. Ect. . Flushed it a million times and had the heads pressure checked, nothing worked. It gets very little heat when idling, and gives "luke warm" heat when rpms increase while driving. Last winter my son could hardly keep his windshield defrosted/defogged and almost lost visibility while driving to school. Not to mention freezing to death with no adequate heat. This is a huge safety issue.

3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

Passenger seat airbag sensor does not detect when an occupant is in the seat, so the airbag is always off. This has been going on for several months.

4 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2019

This vehicle was supposedly repaired in a previous recall, however the issue with the passenger seat airbag sensor persists. Recently it is increasingly difficult to get the sensor to work for the front seat passenger, and it goes on and off as the vehicle is driven. Either the repair was not adequate to completely resolve the problem or not actually completed.

5 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

This vehicle is one of several that have been reported to have problems with wheel speed and psi sensors, which then causes the traction control to believe computer wise it has no traction, therefore the light is always on and the computer sometimes shut the traction control off when it needs to be on. It also has airbag trouble with the passenger seat, also like the recall. However, despite the fact 2007's were issued this recall, it's saying my VIN does apply to these recalls. Find that hard to believe when these things are messed up. Just want gm motors to awknowledge it's possible that this vehicle was mismanufactured.

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2018

Passenger airbag sensor does not register with airbag control module. Brought it to chevy for repair. 600 bucks later and a new sensor, airbag still isn't responding. Chevy tells me I need a new airbag control module for 700 bucks, had already spent 1300 on that visit. Airbag does not register passenger, computer will not reset and sync with control module. This shouldn't require the entire module to be replaced, nor should I have to pay for this since this I've heard/read numerous cases all dealing with this issue on the same model and apparently gm refuses to recall (aside from the airbag reprogram when it first released) has been an ongoing problem since I purchased the vehicle from a dealer, who said they fixed it before I picked it up. Does work intermittently, when a larger person sits there, air bag does register.

7 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

At 100,000 miles, the passenger airbag sensor failed and caused the vehicle to indicate that the airbag was not active, even when a passenger was in the front, passenger seat. I took it to the authorized dealer and referenced # 07v344000 recall but was told that my VIN did not fall within the recall, despite the similarity of the issues involved.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2017

1. The airbag sensory on the passenger side goes on and off depending how the person is seated or how much the person weighs. 2. The defrosting/heating mechanism doesn't produce warm enough air to clear the windows for clear visibility. .

9 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. When the driver and passenger seats were occupied, the air bag sensor (electronic module) failed to illuminate and indicate that the seats were occupied. It was diagnosed that the air bag sensor failed, but a remedy was not provided. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 07v344000 (air bags). The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall and did not offer further assistance. The contact was referred to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. While a passenger was seated on the passenger seat, the air bag sensor inadvertently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 07v344000 (air bags). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.

11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2016

The passenger seat air bag sensor failed and to repair the problem the entire seat cushion and electronic module has to be replaced. This is an over $800 repair and my daughter cant afford to have it fixed. According to the dealer tech this is a common problem on several thousand Equinox, torrent and Saturn ion vehicles. Imho this is a safety defect and should be repaired at no charge.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the air bag sensor failed to operate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2014

The right front passenger seat is built with a passenger sensing system. Whenever the front passenger seat is occupied, and sometimes when it is not occupied, an error in the seat sensor calibration causes the 'check air bag' light to come on.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

During a long trip, the passenger airbag sensor light changed from "on" to "off" intermittently even though there was a passenger present all of time. When the sensor light turned to “off”, the instrument panel “service airbag” light also came on each time. This happened about 8 times during the trip. It has happened several times since then as well.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

I purchased this unit in 2010. This is related to the front passenger seat. The signal of the airbag appears off even if there is a passenger seated. This started to happen in 2013. I took it for a diagnostic at a dealer and they said it was a faulty sensor. Very expensive repair. There is a recall for this situation but when I gave my VIN # it appears my vehicle is not included (NHTSA campaign #07v344000).

16 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the front passenger seat was built with a sensor system for the air bags however, there was an error in the calibration of the sensor, which caused the sensor to fail. As a result, the air bags would not shut off when a small child or small statured person was occupying the passenger¿s seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who refused to diagnose the vehicle because the vehicle was not purchased at that particular dealer. The contact was informed of a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign number: 07v344000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 82,000.

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2012

While driving the airbag sensor for the passenger seat shut off then turned back on repeatedly. Then sensor is not correctly identifying when there is as passenger in the front passenger seat, and the airbag is then automatically shut off. When it was taken to the dealership we were told that there are two sensors that are not working correctly for the passenger presence system. Unfortunately the VIN number is not in the 2007 recall listed affected VIN numbers, even though it is having the same sensor problem.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2011

I had told the chevy dealer the air bag sensor light states "warning please service" they told me it was an old code. A few months later I readended another driver and my airbags did not open up. They did crack because I felt the burn on my arms. Yet, I'm being told it was an old code and there is nothing wrong with them. Now the light stays on all the time and no one will listen to me. I'm afraid there could be a malfunction and it could hurt me or my family, but nonoe will lsten to me.

19 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

I have not had an accident, so the above date, mileage and speed are estimates. While traveling down the highway, the service airbag light came on. The passenger airbag light also went off. It later came back on. My wife was sitting in the passenger seat at the time. Any time we go somewhere, this happens numerous times. I feel this is a defect in the sensor under the seat cushion in the passenger seat. I have noticed that the NHTSA has a recall on 437 units for this problem and your campaign # is 07v34400. According to the man named rob I spoke with at gm, my vehicle was not included in that recall. I feel this is a very serious problem and don't feel like my wife or either one of my children would be protected in the event of an accident where the airbag needs to deploy. It may not due to this defective sensor. I would like to know if you can offer any assistance in getting this taken care of without me having to pay for it. I am on disability income and trying to support a family of four leaves no money for such things. I feel like gm should have to cover this, since it's a defect on their part, and not mine. Is there any way you could add my vehicle to the recall now that I've made you aware of it and given you the VIN #? we're planning a 1,500 mile round trip on the 23rd of June to travel to our church convention and would like to have this problem rectified before making the trip, if at all possible. Thanks for your time and attention.

Failure Date: 01/25/2009

1997 Equinox passenger seat sensor intermittent. Rose Chevrolet claims they replaced the sensor under warranty that they had to wait 3 days for. As my wife was driving down interstate realized that her sister had no airbag. The display said it was off again. My wife could not reset the problem at that time w/o turning the car off/on and hoping it would see that her sister was indeed sitting there. Will be taking this back to rose Chevrolet in hamilton OH again.

25 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2008

First problem happened recall on spark plug boot 1 cylinder wasn't firing, was fixed under warranty as was the gasket for the hatchback was bad. That lead to a gallon or so of water into my spare tire compartment. This has since happened again and I need another gasket. The driver side window stopped working, being a electrician I found to broken wires inside rubber boot on door hinge side. Abs light constantly comes on/off computer says abs needs service ( sensor problem). Gas gauge is reading incorrectly, I have to use the range setting on the computer. Speedometer readings incorrect sits at 60mph when the car is off. I bought this vehicle brand new and have nothing but problems, most of any vehicle I've owned. Current mileage 63,000 miles.

26 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2008

Too many times to count the passenger air bag sensors have not detected various passengers in this 07 Equinox. Brought it to dealership 2 times including once when sensors were replaced, have complained via phone numerous times & told they couldn't fix it. Called gm hotline 02/13/08 & opened a new complaint case based on this & 2 other "unfixable" problems. They requested 1 more chance & truck was brought in 02/25/08. 02/26/08 gm rep called & told me the dealership looked at it & involved gm engineers & that there was no fix & he needed to call the field mgr to authorize a resolution since truck could not be returned due to safety liabilities. 02/29/08 still no return call to gm from field manager. Gm states to stay in rental vehicle since truck is a safety liability & should not be driven. 03/05/08 gm rep states that, although he does not agree, the field mgr stated that when a passenger is present they need to watch for the "air bag off" light to be illuminated & the passenger needs to wiggle around and move until it goes out. She mandated that we return the rental car immediately as gm would not pay for it & we needed to retrieve our truck since it was working as designed. Unbelieving that this would actually be gm's stance especially when they have a voluntary recall out on this exact issue in this vehicle (gm recall 07174) I asked him to confirm that he was telling me to pick up the truck they had been telling me was unsafe for passengers knowing that there would be a need for passengers in the vehicle, he said that wasn't his decision & there was nothing more he could do. I have numerous pictures of the "air bag off" light illuminated with someone clearly in the passenger seat, dated notes documenting all contact with gm on this issue & full records of the previous repair attempts since last year. It's my belief that not only is gm recall 07174 more widespread than they are admitting but I also don't believe they can definitively fix it.

27 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2007
