Tl the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized. In addition, the stabilitrak control and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the intermittent electronic disconnection was in the steering column and the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no warranties or recalls on the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
My key keeps getting stuck in the ignition. I literally have to turn my car on and off, move the shifter in and out of park, shake the shifter, take my foot off of the brakes, at least 10-15 times before the ignition will release the key. I tried to make an appt with a chevy dealership when this problem went public and they cancelled me because my vehicle was not part of the recall. I talked to a representative shakevia with Chevrolet chat and she said that I would have to be responsible for all of the diagnosis and repair fees since my vehicle is not included with the recall. I looked at the recall list and all the vehicles that are on there, the year of my vehicle fits in every single column.
The steering column quit working on our 2007 Equinox (confirmed by Chevrolet dealership). Car had to be towed because of danger when driving. Car has fewer than 50,000 miles. Dealership said this was a common problem. The column would quit working and signal could not get to steering motor. Approximate cost - 728. 00 not including tow charge.
Passenger side seat airbag sometimes does not come on. Can't seem to find the problem. Kind of a nerve racking situation. Steering column does not lock when the vehicle is shut off and the key removed. Not a good feeling with all that is going on with gm ignition switch problems.
Engine light turns on and says the stabilitrak needs servicing as well as the traction control and that they are off, also says that engine power is reduced. This has happened about 5 times in the past 2 months and each time that I have an appointment, the light goes off and the dealer says they cannot diagnose without a check engine light on. This concerns me. Autozone hooked up there little gadget while it was on once and indicated that the throttle position sensor may be the culprit, said it came up three times. Power steering column locks up when I turn on vehicle, this has happened a few times in the past 3 years, each time I take to dealer, they cannot duplicate the problem and therefore cannot fix it. I have had vehicle since July of 2007. My current mileage is 42,998 the first error with column started probably in October of 2007 and occurs every so often but by the time I get it to dealer, it cannot be duplicated. What I have to do is turn the car on and off until it "registers" and then the column works otherwise it is very stiff and hard to nearly impossible to turn.
