While driving the power steering stopped working. I could still steer manual but was very hard. The service stability light came on. I pulled over to the side of the road turned car off then back on and still wouldn’t work. I decided to drive home with no power steering. Took to a local mechanic and he found that there is a TSB for this issue but is having challenges following the TSB. Due to he needs a “tech2” scanner. He thinks he found a workaround but that web site was down. He still has car and will resume today.
Power steering quit working.
No power steering, stabilitrak light on, car will not start.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. While pulling out of the driveway, the steering wheel seized without warning. The contact had to apply extreme force to turn the steering wheel. The vehicle was unable to be driven due to the failure and was towed to findlay Chevrolet Buick GMC (2565 laughlin view dr, bullhead city, az 86429, (928) 754-3400) for diagnostic testing and repair. I almost got killed when power steering stopped working all of a sudden. No warning at all. I was on my way home from shopping. Good thing this happened to me and not my wife she would not have been able to control the Equinox.
"takata recall" my power steering quit until I stopped and turned the engine of and started it again. Very scary thing. My car only has 45000 miles on it.

Over the past few days, my stabilitrak light has come on and off while driving or just sitting in the car. Pulling into my driveway today I noticed that the light came back on for the stabilitrak. I proceeded to drive and then suddenly it became increasing hard to maneuver my steering wheel almost to the point where it felt as if it had locked up on me. I was able to drive the car back home but as I was driving I notice my air bag light came on and will not go off at all. After making it back to into my driveway I cut off the ignition waited a few minutes and turned the car back on to see if this would help either of the problems but to no avail. I have now taken the car to my local Chevrolet dealer and they have informed me that they have sen this issue with a number of Equinox and it is indeed an issue my stabilitrak.
I'm having issues with steering my wheel. It is hard to turn.

The electronic power steering went out briefly. I managed to get to the side of the road and shut the care off and restarted it and then it seemed to work just fine. It has happened a couple of other times but I was lucky enough to be in a parking lot. I have never seen any recalls on this but I have noticed alot of complaints.
I gave someone a boost and my power steering went out right after they boosted their car.
On 7-7-14, while driving home from the doctors' office, the vehicle slowed down. It was like I was driving on a washboard and was very hard to steer. When I pulled off the road and was backing up to park, it was as though I had no power steering. I turned the ignition switch off for a few seconds, and when I restarted the vehicle, I pressed on the brake pedal and attempted to move the shift lever, it would not move until I pressed the brake pedal as hard as I could. Then the vehicle responded normally. This problem has occurred on several occasions. In June 2014, we took the vehicle to the dealership in an effort to correct the problem. They readjusted the brake pedal switch. I had no problem until 7-7-14 . We took the vehicle back to the dealership and they quoted us a cost of over $600. 00 to replace the traction control module because they told us that it was unrelated to the first incident. However, the vehicle was doing the same exact thing as the first time we took it in. After reading other complaints identical to mine, I'm not very comfortable with what I'm being told regarding this problem. I'm the primary driver of this vehicle, since my husband suffered a stroke on 2-18-2013. Too bad you buy a vehicle and do not feel safe driving it. I hope no one is injured or killed before something is done to correct this problem.
On two occasions the power steering has gone out while I started my car. Each time this occurred I was unable to steer the vehicle. It was very dangerous to drive as it was very difficult to make right and left hand turns.
Power steering module went out and I need that module, I bought it used and I did not know anything of a recall I was not told anything about it.
Power steering stopped working. It was working fine, I parked went in to school to get daughter came out and it wasn't working. Service stabilitrak light on.
When I put my vehicle in park and try to turn off my car, the key gets stuck in the ignition more often than not. I then have to turn it on, back up, pull forward, and turn it off again to see if it will let me take the key out. Sometimes I have to do this 5-6 times!.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while traveling 15 mph, the traction control light illuminated and immediately after the shocks and the brakes engaged independently. The contact mentioned that the vehicle decelerated and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure recurred only once. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 86,000. Updated 8/19/cn.
My Chevrolet Equinox power steering locked up while backing out of the drive way. Gm is recalling certain vehicles with the power steering locking up. It bothers me that certain vehicles are being recalled when others are not with the same problem. I have gone online to find other people that have encountered the same issue with this vehicle. It is very inconvenient to have to come out of pocket to pay for a replacement gm should have taken care of.
I had to jump start my vehicle and my power steering was not working.
I was driving and all of a suddedn the steering got really hard ive been doing research and it appears there has been more cars like mine with the same problem definitly there should be a recall of somewhat plus the dealership is charging me $750 for repairs.
I was leaving my driveway and my electric power steering quit working. I ended up in the other lane because my car wouldn't turn. Luckily there was no one else using that lane at the time. Now I see a recall in the news in which gm says they want to get all vehicles that could be effected, but they don't include the Equinox. ?.
I have multiple issues currently and they all seem to be listed on other complaints. 1. The driver side window has completely stopped working. It seems to have become disconnected to the motor as I can hear the motor going up and down within the door. 2. Stabilitrak warning and engine light are constantly turning on and off. This has happened on and off over the past year or so but the dealership could not get a reading from the computer. Now it has been on for the past 2 weeks constantly 3. The temperature gauge in the instrument panel does not work. Took it into the dealer and they replaced the thermostat a few days later the gauge went haywire again. It gets worse when I fill up with gas and tends to mirror the gas gauge reading most of the time. 4. The key will not come out of the ignition when turning off the car. This is extremely frustrating. I put the car in park, turn the key off, the engine turns off but the key will not come out of the ignition. Have to turn car back on, put it in and out of park, turn the wheel, back up, drive forward or just sit and wait a few minutes and it comes out. 5. Occasionally the electronics go crazy - the turn signals won't work and the radio shuts down. It makes a sound when it does this as well, like a clicking noise but it only lasts for a few seconds and I can't figure out what causes it.
The vehicle just started to slow down, it was difficult to steer to get off the road. It felt like the car was locking up. There was a strong burning smell. I was concerned that there would be a fire. The vehicle would not go backward or forward. A tow truck had to be called. The diagnosis was the power brake booster, which they replaced. Two weeks later the car locked up again. Now they are saying the entire braking and stabilizer system has to be replaced.
While driving home my car suddenly became very very hard to steer I could not make right or left turns without extreme difficulty turning the wheel. In fact it felt like the power steering had completely went out in the 2007 Equinox. When I went to the Chevrolet garage they were no help but to tell me they would not do a thing until I paid $89 they would not even say if this was an issue experienced by anyone else in the past or about how much it could even cost if they found something. When I left the car started to act correctly but the stabilitrak service light came off and on again we asked about this at the garage they would not comment on that until we paid $89. 00. As I did not feel safe at all driving the car I remembered another place here in town that handled cars and the rebuilding of most any main featured items from motors to transmissions and went there the auto mechanic took the car for a drive of course the stabilitrak service light did not come on but the steering once again acted up. He immediate informed me that it was the power steering motor and we ordered it and had it installed last week June 20th. The garage had a lot of trouble getting the part because they had to deal with a dealer here in town and they gave them a very hard time. During this wait to get the part and have it installed the steering only acted up during the cold months but once the weather warmed up I did not have a problem and the light issue stopped. With the new motor the car drove well this weekend but now the light has again come on for the stabilitrak service. This is so very annoying as I have no faith in the dealerships here as all they can say “we need $89 to even step over to look at it”. Believe me when I say I will never buy a chevy again.
I own a 2007 chevy eqinox I was on the highway when my SUV sterring wheel got very hard on me, couldnt even move it at all, I got very scared got of the freerway. I parked to the side to see what was wrong waited for a bit started with my vehicle again but couldnt move the steering wheel very hard to move by that point I just wanted to go home, no lights came on to warn me of problem. Then the tracking control and staibilty lights came on after 45min. Got home parked the vehicle. Next day the sterring wheel was ok everything seemed ok. Today (06/25/2013) same problem sterring wheel very hard couldnt turn left nor right almost had an accident. Took it to car dealer Chevrolet was diagnose with power sterring module control price $798. 50 this definitely needs to be a recall. Help.
On Saturday may 25, 2013 my 2007 Chevrolet Equinox would not start. The key had gotten stuck in the ignition and I did not remove it and I think that killed the battery. I tried to jump start the car with no success. Finally on Sunday may 26,2013 I had a professional come jump start it. After it started the power steering went out and the stabilitrak warning light came on. This has never happened before and I don't know what's causing it. I read in the forum that there were several other Equinox's with the same problem. I think it should be a recall.
The power steering computer modular failed on 3/26/13. There was no warning or recall for this problem. This was unexpected and caused me a great deal of stressed. I had to spend a lot of money to fix the problem. This vehicle alerts me on everything else, such as low gas, change oil, etc. . . Yet it do not alert me of a major problem?.
I was attempting to make a right hand turn from a parking lot onto a main street. The steering wheel would not turn without great force and I ended up on wrong side of road. I got the car to a repair place and was told the power steering motor had burnt up and the stabilizer light had just came on. This happened without any forewarning. I was lucky there was not any traffic or I would of been involved in a head on collision. I now understand this is very common with this vehicle and should of been a recall by general motors. The danger this could cause as it occurs with no warning at all. My cost to repair this was $1400.
First off, I love my vehicle. I bought it used 1/11, have had it less than 2 years. I've already had to have a complete transmission replacement earlier this year, and now this. Upon purchase, mileage was 85k. Mileage is currently approx 94k. Therefore, these damages are not by fault of heavy driving, etc. . . On Friday, 11/9/12, I drove about 5 miles from my home to take my son to a job interview in a mall plaza. I pulled into a parking spot, turned the car off and waited while he went inside. Approx 20 mins later he came out. I started the vehicle and pulled out of the parking spot. As I was leaving the mall parking area, driving through the lot, all of a sudden I had no control of the steering. It "froze up" and wouldn't steer. Luckily, I was able to brake and not crash into any cars around me. I was horrified! this has never happened to me before with any other vehicle, ever! after I realized it was a steering issue and nothing involving the engine, etc. . I was able to pull into another parking space(barely able to steer)to sit safely and wait for help. I first called a friend to bring me power steering fluid, thinking that was the issue. But, upon waiting for them to arrive I researched and saw other complaints that it does not take fluid, instead there is a "steering motor". I then called aaa, not knowing how safe/unsafe it was for me to chance driving home. I had aaa tow my vehicle to my home. My vehicle has been sitting in my driveway since then. I am a single parent and it's hard enough financially trying to make it day to day, let alone enduring unnecessary car repairs back to back on a vehicle I purchased due to the upstanding reputation of chevy cars. I am appalled that there is no recall for this apparent defect and no care from chevy for safety of its drivers/owners! I am extremely disappointed and want something done. Asap.
We have a 2007 Equinox that the power steering quit working. Prior to the power steering going out, the service stabilitrak light would come on at random times for no apparent reason. I contacted a dealership and they told me it was possible that there could be corrosion on the connectors for the sensors for the stabilitrak. When the power steering quit working, I did some research and found that others were having similar issues, so I contacted gm who wanted me to have the vehicle diagnosed to see if there was anything they could do. The diagnosis was the power steering control module. After a week and a half of talking to gm they said, due to the age and mileage on the vehicle there was nothing they could do. Due to the number of customer complaints, we then asked them have they done anything to fix the problem with the control module. They couldn't give us an answer. We aren't going to continue to pay for control modules because they can't fix the issue. Thank god my 7 month old child was not in the vehicle with me at the time of the failure.
