general problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox - part 2

Car radio display does not turn on when starting car. It will automatically start playing sometimes 10 mins after driving or not at all. Ac went out on car at 89000 miles. Pretty lousy considering it is only 4 years old. Also makes a loud noise and sounds like it is not shifting. Sound never goes away.

Car battery constant drains, car wont start upon hot/cold weather. . . Bcm might be the cause-body control module computer, car cuts off while driving, has stalled, nocking sound when ac/heater is on ,burning smell. Battery replaced and not the problem, alt also checked and is working good. Have to constantly charge the battery to charge the computer to get the car to start.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to be started without the key in the ignition. The instrument panel indicated that the transport mode and battery were not charging. The contact had to turn the key in a clockwise motion to dim the transport mode warning indicator. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v171000 (electrical system). The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to faulty ignition shutting off vehicle several times while driving. The consumer took the vehicle in for service several times, but no diagnosis was given.

Was driving vehicle when all of a sudden entire dash lit up and car stalled. Messages included service stabilitrak, service abs, engine light, and service traction control. I lost power, power brakes, and power steering and coasted vehicle to a stop. It took a couple of tries but finally got the car to turn over, engine light remained on but drove to dealer. Vehicle did not drive correctly when accelerated, it was slow and jerky. When I took the vehicle to the dealer they told me it would be covered under warranty, they plugged in their tech code reader and determined it was throttle body. I was given a concierge vehicle and informed it would take them the weekend to fix. When I picked the vehicle up they charged me saying that it would not be covered under the warranty and tried to make me pay for the rental and I have still not been reimbursed for the repairs that should have been covered under warranty or the rental car. The service agent at the dealership printed off where it clearly states that it should be covered. This is a dangerous problem and should be recalled.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while waiting at a traffic light the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The contact stated that the failure recurred on several occasions. The contact also stated that on several occasions the vehicle would vibrate violently, while the lights and instrument panel would flicker. The vehicle was not taken for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 12,464. Ah.

While driving the vehicle the wipers stopped functioning making it dangerous to drive. The center console display, radio and heater controls, went off and stopped functioning. This has happened several times and is a dangerous situation. I have had it looked at by the dealer and they tell me nothing is wrong. They also tell me there is no recall on any Equinox for these issues even after I recommended them to look at your site. They told me to "stop looking at the internet for information because it is no good and that people do nothing but complain on the internet. " I called the gm customer service center to explain that to them and they recommended me to file a complaint with NHTSA to make it known that my car is having the same issue as the recalled cars to possibly get it added to the recall. I am not only doing this because they recommended me to, but because my family is at a safety risk driving this vehicle and gm doesn't seem to care. They need to be held accountable for this issue since there are many people out there having the same issue that are in the same boat as I am without being covered by the recall.

Service air bag warning light on 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. So, why isn't this vehicle included in the recent recall?.

Car made noise and engine started to stop. Pulled off to side of freeway, turned off key and car burst into flames. Car is a total loss, due to the fire damage.

Power steering locked up/stopped working when trying to back up. Wouldn't work when put back in forward gear. Happened intermittantly and when taken to dealer, they couldn't replicate. Next couple of months did this intermittently. Recently, it did this regularly for a day when driving. . . Very dangerous as it would happen often when executing a turn so car could lurch into an adjacent lane and potentially end up in an accident. Warning light came on and this time took to dealer who told me they diagnosed a problem that would require replacement of at least part of the power steering assembly. This seems to be the exact same issue as what ocurred with cobalts, hhr, etc. In the latest gm recall and I believe that the recall should be extended to this model year and make as well (if not for others too!). Caused me enough concern to get the work done and am now working on my options to try and get gm to reimburse me based on this being an identical issue to these other makes and models.

I have owned this auto, which I purchased from a chev. Dealer in atmore, al Dec 2011; first sign of trouble was notice to replace elecronic board, and battry which was run down & alleged duye to fail. , replaced under bank service warranty, plus $110. From that point onthe car would start unattended, and parked, locked with alarm on. Attempts to correct meant fighting to get lock to stay open with key, and inserting same into ignrition. Car has also stopped for no reason at all,. Complaint to gn/chev two weeks ago, complainingh of broken key as buttons had droped off and second set did not work at all. Milton Chevrolet at milton, FL alleged corrected problem by making second (non-worklng) key work. A week later car parked, locked and alarm set, started in mid afternoon, no one near auto or keys and alarm ran off. We had to get key, enter auto and turn off ignitiion. The dealer wants the cost of two new keys to "fix" the problem. I think that the problem is a faulty ignition system entirely. If car stopped running on interstate for no reason, brakes, alarm, air bags would be inoperative. This has been reported to gm/chevolet about 6 times, a late as yesterday when they demand cost of keys to repair problem. At times we have gone into stores and heard the alarm go off wth no one around. This is not the intent of Chevrolet to meet recall. Please advise as to how this can be resolved. I have no doubt that the key system and the key and ignition and engine are allinked and are faulty with problems yet tobe revealed. Crrent mileage, 60,700 total mileage.

Been having off and on problems with driver side air bag coming on and off. It will appear for maybe a week then go off totally for months. I took it in to the dealer where I bought and they ran a test and said it would be over 400. 00 to fix. Not sure what to do as this is just once in awhile service airbag! has there been any other problems with this make and model. ? not sure what to do. Hate spending all this money if it is just a fluke. Thank you for your help on this matter.

Hello on a few different occasions my center console as stopped functioning making it impossible to turn on/off defroster, heat, etc. I have called Chevrolet about this problem but they told me it is not included in recall 09v489000. Can someone please explain why my vehicle does not qualify for this recall when I am experiencing the same problems? thank you.

Equinox starts powering down occasionally during acceleration through hard right turns and, once, during a soft bump against a curb. Dashboard lights turn off, engine dies, etc. Can be restarted from stop. We had been able to duplicate the problem, but haven't been able to do so at the dealership, so it remains unfixed. We are concerned about the safety of driving a vehicle that may power down during a hard right turn and heavy acceleration. We now intentionally accelerate slowly and cautiously through right turns. We worry that we will get in a situation where, for instance, we'll need to turn out of the way of a semi trailer and our car will power down, putting us in great danger.

I have had many problems with this vehicle regarding electrical, audio, airbag lights coming on and now engine oil. The engine oil was just detected at 80,000 miles however I have complained that my car does not run right since the beginning. They claim that the engine is burning off the oil however I am very good at getting my oil changes around 3000 miles and where is the oil going? its not in my garage or on the engine? I have had my car completely go blank on the dash no indicator lights etc. I have filled a complaint with chevy to no avail. I am very disappointed that now my engine needs to be replaced or maybe just he pistons? at 80,000 miles? this has been going on since I owned it from sept 2009! I think chevy needs to step up and make things right! disappointed. Just for the record I bought this car in California.

Has a tapping noise in the engine took it to dealer and they said that they can,t hear or fine the problem,I told the shopmanager that they will not find it will the window up,also started the SUV up one morning and the fuel rang say 303 mile I drove 7 miles to work and saw that it said 294 so the SUV than us 9 gallon of gas in seven miles. The merchanie said that that was normal that,s a lie. The dealer just don,t want to fix the problem,if it not any money in it for them than they don,t want to fix the problem. I don,t want to go out of town and the motor blow up or the defrost stop working and my family get hurt than it,s on. Went to two dealer and they couldn,t hear the tapping and I am standing there and hear it. All this money that we paying for this SUV they need to fix the problem or we will get action 9 news on it.

I purchased a brand new Equinox from Chevrolet in 08/31/2010. Since 10/30/2010, I've had ongoing issues with this vehicle. Two incidents of which, I almost had near-death car accidents. This is the third time I am in a rental car, totaling to about a month so far in rentals. First incident in October, I had to drive with my hazards on to even get to the dealership. My speedometer and tech would accelerate, however, it felt like I was in neutral. It was serviced for about 2-3 weeks and they said they fixed the problem. Then 2 weeks ago, I had just got off a 3-lane 65 mph highway, when my vehicle stalled on me. I remember looking down at the dash while I was driving, the speedometer said I was going 100 mph but I wasn't moving. I was nearly rear-ended being on a highway. Luckily, I was able to get over a lane and pull over. The car wouldn't allow me to move or reverse. I was in a rental for about a week while they examined my car. Chevrolet/gm said they were unable to find anything wrong with my car and forced me to return the rental and drive my car. I have written documentation stated they were unable to find anything wrong with my vehicle. Now the third incident, I was driving in philadelphia on a way to a wedding. My car stalled multiple times, causing me to pull over on broad street about 4 times, just to turn my car off and on to attempt to move it. It was a hazard to myself and on the road, I almost got hit multiple times. Chevrolet said they found the problem with my car, but how am I suppose to trust them when they never trusted me when I said something was wrong. This car is brand-new and this is the third occurrence of the same issue. I feel completely unsafe driving this vehicle and my confidence has plummeted. Please advise me of what to do.

I have a 2010 Equinox ltz with about 11,000 miles on it. It was recently in for replacement of the part that operates the radio and heat/air controls (there is a recall on this). I have recently discovered that if you hold down the unlock button on the remote that all four windows will roll down and the car will be unlocked. There is no documentation on this in the owner's manual and the service technician at the dealership says this is a built-in feature to cool off the car on hot days. I consider this a safety issue because the remote could accidentally be activated as I am leaving the vehicle for an extended period of time or at night.

2010 Equinox, 6070 miles. Went to go to store, started car, no radio or heater. Turned off engine, then restarted vehicle, and both worked, have not had prob. Since. Called gm, they said to take it to the dealer to be checked out. I will wait until it does it again to take it in. They will not be able to do anything if it is not broken at the time I take it to service dept.
