While driving car trembled a little a minute or so before it seemingly lost power, no accelerstion, steering wheel locked. Lights remained on dash but no power. No warning lights. Nothing. Thankfully was able to safely stop near side of the road and turned thebkey and car started like nothing happened. Thankful I was exiting a parking lot, and wasnt on the highway like I was just a few hours prior. I couldve been killed.
I have a 2011 chevy Equinox that just randomly had the transmission go out in it. I had taken it to a dealership not even 2 weeks ago and they were supposed to do a full vehicle fluid top off and full oil change. Never have I had any issues with my vehicle prior to this and it only has 90k miles on it.
The transmission went out in the vehicle with only 85,xxx miles on it. Costing almost $3,000 to fix it.
Going down the road the ac started blowing hot air so we have no air in this SUV not fair and it started to jerk like it was losing power scary.
Vehicle has been meticulously maintained. Engine started to stall while driving, then would not start. Warning lights did not appear until after the vehicle would not start. Said engine underpowered. Had it towed to mechanic, who found there was no oil in the engine, even though no lights came on and we checked the oil 3 days earlier. Had the car towed to the dealer. The dealer said the engine needed to be replaced, but repairs should be covered under a special coverage warranty issued by gm. Gm denied coverage with no explanation sent to me. I called customer service to file an appeal, and was given a file number and told someone would contact me within 2 business days. Despite almost daily follow up calls by me for a month no one has called me back. Each time I am told it the case is being handled by a senior advisor and that the operator was not able to contact them and they would call me back. I asked for the case to be escalated to a supervisor, and after 4 times was told it had been, but when I called back to see why no one had called me back was told that the senior advisor was still assigned to the case. This is a very serious safety issue, with the engine stalling while still in motion, with no warning, and is caused by a known manufacturer's defect and should be part of a recall, not "special coverage".
Recall on the front seat there's a recall in the engine area electrical surges there's a recalled beginning of the cranking up part of the car there are more recalls but I am not for sure of the rest.
Today I added my name to the class action lawsuit, case no. 3:17-cv-5337 that was filed on 9/14/17 in the northern district of California against gm regarding my 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. If you're affected, add your name as well as file a complaint with the federal trade commission. Feb2017, I purchased said auto with 69,684 miles in good condition. On my way to work while at a red light the SUV shut off without warning. Being unable to restart the SUV, it was towed on may 25, 2018 to my mechanic (cb island, 589 union Ave, westbury, NY) to find that there were damaged valves, a broken timing chain, and a blown engine at 93,675 miles. This mileage is well under gm's special coverage adjustment mileage of 120k. The cause of the damage to the motor was lack of oil in the engine. Being diligent in getting oil changes, there was no indication that the oil was low in the car. Gm refused to honor the warranty though they knew of the defect on these engines. There are many almost identical mechanical issues over multiple years for the chevy Equinox. This is not just a few of us that have experienced this engine failure, but enough to have a class action initiated. Having a $16k loan remaining, I have no other choice but to repair the engine. The government (which was assisted gm out of bankruptcy) needs to hold gm accountable by forcing them to take action by recalling all affected models, and to reimburse those who have already made the repairs in addition to having gm inspect the repaired engines to ensure no future problems to pre-empt the fatalities that will eventually begin to add up.
Car stalled out while stopped at a stop light. Was able to restart and drive home. Was scheduled for an oil change the next day, went to drive the car and made it three houses down before it stalled out while driving. Engine light came on and would not start back up. Had it towed to a repair shop and they said it jumped time, and the timing chain broke and made a mess of the engine. Engine needs to be replaced. Failed at 73k miles. Bought the car certified used at 36k two years ago and have had it serviced regularly. Don't have money for repairs and chevy dealer won't fix. . . .
This model with this VIN# was not listed for a recall, however, it burns oil excessively. The oil gets changed to only have to add oil numerous times before the next oil change. It is absolutely absurd that I have to purchase oil by the gallon. The second problem is the a/c. The check engine light comes on at times when the a/c is on, stays on for days or a week or so, go off, comes back on, and the cycle continues to repeat itself. The mass airflow sensor, oxygen sensors(upstream and down-stream) spark plugs, have all been replaced many times thinking the replacement parts were defected. It appears all of this has to do with a vehicle that was not well built. This car has had a lot of things to go wrong to include the transmission which was no good, and it does not appear that much else about the vehicle is good. It has taken a lot to keep this vehicle running! general motors, please recall this vehicle? I do not have photos of the oil problem, because I am checking it approximately every two weeks, and more often if I must travel a long distance. I add oil as needed. The situation with the air resulted from getting the check engine light read at an auto parts store, and it is unnerving that it is always the same thing. I want to allow my grandson to take this car to college in August, but there is some uncertainty.
2011 Equinox 2lt fwd with less than 70,000 miles needs an entire new transmission. No hard driving. No towing. Regular use to and from work. City and highway driving only. One morning simply refused to go into drive, even though reverse works fine. Absolutely ridiculous. Cannot be an isolated incident.
Wiper blade motor stopped working in a heavy downpour. I was on a road I know so was able to pull off safely. If I didn't know this road I am positive I would have had an accident. The manifold was changed in 2013. Today is March 22, 2018. Last week I had the manifold changed again. Cracked again. There were fumes coming into the passenger area. The car is in the repair garage again because the fumes are even worse. The car has always had a loud ticking sound. It uses a lot of oil. I complained to the dealer before the warranty ran out. They did an oil consumption test and said the oil use was within normal range. How can this be normal range when I put a couple quarts of oil every 200 miles. This car is junk.

Tl- the contact own a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut off without warning. The contact also stated that while at a stop, the vehicle will shut off without warning. The contact also stated that at times, her brake pedal will go all the way to the floor when depressed. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who informed her that her vehicle was burning excessive oil that caused her engine to stall. The contact then drove the vehicle to a dealer(ganley Chevrolet 13865 brookpark rd, brook park, OH 44142 216-586-5804) where the contact was informed that due to the age of the vehicle, any repair would be deemed pointless. They offered her no assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was given a case number. They offered her a voucher to be placed towards another vehicle, the contact was given a different case manager who informed her that due to the age and mileage of the vehicle, they would offer no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Jo.
Car completely shut down while driving on high way no signs of warning lights on dashboard my wife was stranded with my 1 year old daughter towed to a chevy dealership car only had 84000 miles on it was told my engine was totally destroyed from timing chain supposedly and needed to be replaced 6000 dollars later total replacement 😡 thank god my family was not hurt in this event called gm corp to complain and there is nothing they can do there should have been a recall not happy from what I read this has happened to a lot of customers I just hope no one gets hurt!!!!!!!!! also they said no recall and it's not under warranty.
Just replaced the transmission at 135,000. In reading online, seems to be a common problem with this year/make.
Engine failed due to excessive oil consumption. I was in the process of working through an oil consumption test with the dealership but was unable to finish. My car failed thankfully while it was stationary in my driveway. It is my understanding that this failure could have happened at any time even with my kids in the car or on the highway. I've been told that due to the vehicle consuming excessive oil between regular oil changes it results in issues with the timing chain which eventually lead to engine issues and ultimately failure. There is currently a technical service bulletin released by gm for the known issue but no information was even sent to me about the issue so that I could be made aware of it and monitor the problem.
Stabilitrak light comes on then engine power reduced and vehicle dropped from 65 to 25 mph instantly driving on highway.
I had my family in the Equinox and had to coast to the side of the road on a busy highway at night. I called aaa to have the car towed to a repair shop by the house. They determined the transmission was bad and either needed a new one or have the computer re-flashed. The only people who can re-flash a transmission module computer is a dealership. By now, I also called general motors and they advised me to take it to a dealership. I had it towed again for a second time to the dealership. They said the transmission was bad and needed a new one. I started the repair process soon after. I wanted general motors to pay for the repairs because I bought my car brand new and it had 88,000 miles on it. Gm did not pay for the repairs and I got stuck with a $3800 bill in repairs and labor.
Transmission went out.
When seating in the driver seat turn on the car my air bag warren come on even when I turning the wheel left or right it come on and I did get warrant card and I call a chevy dealer in quincy fla and they said they did it still it keep popping up let talk about that oil that I keep losing with in 4week bout the oil when I get a oil charge when in a 3 week checking my cage and checking my oil stick now I know what the cage on the oil stick level should be I have a uncle that works for Chevrolet dealer in upper state that show me what to look for now this don't make sense so.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. While operating the vehicle, an audible ticking noise was present from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer classic Chevrolet (6877 center st, mentor, OH (440-602-6020) where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft rear oil seal was blown due to moisture in the pvc. The contact was informed that the failure occurred as a result of driving in extremely low weather temperatures for extended periods. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 96,500.
Extreme hard down shift between 35-45 mph. Dealer says "transmission is fried" "plates are charred". This is a very common problem with this particular car. It has had already 2-3 recalls & this transmission is going to kill someone. I contacted general motors & they will not make this a recall & they will not help pay for repair although they have helped others. This problem is not due to driver error but due to failure of the part. Dealer is charging an arm/leg to fix it. General motors clearly does not care.
I have a 2011 Equinox it's got 146,000 miles . I am faithful with oil changes and last week when I went to get it changed I was told my engine had no oil. My oil light never came on, my check engine light had just turned on the day prior. I was told there wasn't any leaks. So after some research I find there is a oil consumption problem, however since my miles are I've 120,000 I don't qualify for the repair. This is not right! my car could have burnt up because my light never indicated a problem and gm never notified me of he issues!.
After driving a couple of hours on freeway I turned onto gratiot Ave, suddenly the vehicle lost forward motion power. I was very concerned because I had a 2 month old infant in the vehicle. The vehicle also lost reverse. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and the diagnosis was that the 3rd/5th/reverse clutch wave plate had failed and I would need a replacement transmission. I informed the dealership that these clutch wave plates have high failure rates going back to 2007 and gm should repair the vehicle at their cost. I am awaiting their decision. Only 74,000 miles on vehicle.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. On several occasions, while the vehicle was idling or being driven at a low speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact had to place the vehicle in park in order for it to restart. While the brake pedal was depressed, the steering wheel locked and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact notified the dealer (jim trenary Chevrolet, 501 auto mall dr, o'fallon, mo 63368 (636) 946-6300) where an appointment was made. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 79,621.
I was driving home after work. The transmission didn't shift when it should have, then jerked into gear, did it again then the check engine light came on. I was able to pull over safely and then had it towed to my nearest Chevrolet dealership.
Hello, the vehicle is under 60,000 miles. I received a recall notice for the malfunction light. After diagnosis, it was reported the car burned oil and caused oil sludge. Many reports are needed to be replaced, including the pistons and rings. The cost of the job is between $4500 - 6000. Gm will not repair the car under the bulletin, 15285c. Apparently, the car VIN is covered; however, gm will not repair because I can't proof changing oil every 5,000 miles. I do have service provider receipts dating back to 2012. I couldn't proof changing the oil myself. I have completed this tasks in addition to the service shop. Gm reported the car to burn oil excessively at 2,000 miles. I wasn't aware of this until 2016, five years after time of purchase. I'm disappointed with gm not backing their product. The car has the following issues due to this recall. -lunges at idle -stops at idle -sounds like a ticking time bomb I have already invested $1200 in the engine fixing the timing chain and water pump. Attached is a conversation saved with gm support. Thanks, chad.
Safety concerns galore with this model year, which is well documented on the internet. Oil consumption issue, transmission needed to be replaced and car stalling issuing since I have owned vehicle. Driving on highway and car completely lost power due to the oil consumption issue with entire family in car, very dangerous. New engine problem caused car to stall in road as well. There are systemic problems that gm doesn't want to acknowledge and it has been extremely frustrating to own vehicle. Someone is going to get seriously injured during this car. Called and shared safety concern with gm and dealership several times.
Returned to hubler chevy for strange noise at a cold start. Rough idle. Already a bulletin for balancing chain. Balance chain replaced per extended warranty. Received a call that the timing chain needs replaced $198. Not on a bulletin. Also, now doing engine oil consumption test because oil was low as well as engine coolant was low. After doing research at home, thousands of 2. 4l engines for Equinox are having to pay for bad timing chain when they have balancing chain replaced. Most of these complaints are coming at the 30,000 mile mark on the odometer. It seems to me that nhsta should look into why the timing chain issue is not addressed when replacing the balancing chain? if the timing chain stretches or breaks it will blow up the engine (safety issue). My vehicle just turned 29,0000 miles. Numerous other complaints involve all the nhsta bulletins and ultimately, these people are receiving new replacement engines. If this is the case why won't gm issue a recall and replace these engines with the new improved 2013-2014 2. 4l engines. My time is valuable and each repair will cost me a days worth of pay. If these problems are now showing up. Let's end games and replace the engine now. This is very wide spread problem, gm needs to own it and replace the entire engine instead of all these band aid fixes.
Engine has always made a rattling noise which now I believe loose/worn timing chain. Last week the Equinox was stalling at stop signs. It will start right back up then die again. Once it's takes off it runs fine. We took it to the dealer, they said there were 2 codes. 1 read engine misfire other read intake cam valve actuator (something). The dealer cleared the codes (charged me for clearing codes) and then said there was nothing wrong with car and sent me on my way. Couple days later it dies 3 times in a row at stop. The check engine light comes on and stays on for one day. Next day check engine light goes off and vehicle runs fine. Later that day it dies at stop. I call dealer to get another appointment and they say without check engine light on or it dying for them there isn't much they can do. Do a quick google search of Equinox timing issue and this is a very common issue. Of course now it is 3 months out of the 5year powertrain warranty. I have read where there is an extended warranty for this issue. I have a feeling I'm going to be forced to take it to another dealership after they do nothing for it and charge me to clear any codes.
While driving on the freeway it would shut off during low speeds. Issue happened 20+ time during one 15 minute drive. I would need to put the car in neutral to start it again, but once I slowed down it would shut off. This also happened when stopped at a light, once I pressed on the accelerator to begin moving, the vehicle would stall out, powering off and requiring me to place in neutral to start again.
After coming to a stop at a light, car completely died. Nothing would work. Had to be towed back to dealer. Was sent to a certified gm service center and the timing chain had broke and caused chaos in my engine. They replaced the chain as well as the head and other numerous parts. They also found that my manifold was cracked and had to be replaced. Out quite a bit of money. Now just a few months later, driving down the road and my engine is clicking and ticking and sounds like its going to fall out. I check the oil when I get stopped and my car has no oil in it. No warning lights had come on and my oil level monitoring system still said 38%. It had just reached 3000 miles since my last oil change. Not a happy customer. Tired of dropping money in this vehicle. Also now when I get in my air conditioner make a loud noise until I turn it off and back on.
Takata recall I purchased my car in may 2016. I informed the dealer of the issue right away. It still has not been fixed properly. The dealer had a 30 warranty to fix anything wrong. My car doesn't get enough power. It jerks forward around 30mph. Does drive past 55mph and most recently doesn't reverse, despite returning it to the dealership 5 times within the past 2 months. The error codes read p0700 and p0776. Yesterday the car stopped going in reverse. It can only drive forward.
Purchased my 2011 chevy Equinox in March 2014 at 36,000 miles. At this moment I have 63,000 miles. Past couple months or so I have had many issues with my vehicle. There was a ticking for a period of time after parking and shutting off the vehicle, a rough/loud running of the engine, inconsistent times of knocking type sound, and a hesistant during accelerating and so rough. When we inquired about these things from the dealer we purchased from we were told that everything was 'normal' and that's what a chevy sounds like. Today I was driving up a 30 mph road and could not accelerate over 20 mph going straight up the road. There was a hesistation then it stopped in the middle of the road. I turned the ignition off. Waited a few seconds and it started back up. I drove fast home and turned onto my street and it started to slow down and not accelerate. It was still running but didnt go anywhere. I turned it off again for a few minutes. It started up I drove it into my driveway. The engine light came on and it shutoff. This appears to be a consistent problem in this type of vehicle from what I have now found and something that should not happen with only 63,000 miles on it. I do not drive long distance. Work, school and home. I am extremely frustrated with the entire situation. I have always bought chevy and this is the first major issue. They need a recall on this. Can someone help. I do not have a warranty anymore. Im a single mom of 2 and can not afford this. The crazy thing is. I received a notice in the mail about this issue a few months back. I chuckled and said not my car and threw it away now look at me.
Timing chain failure.
