2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 06/10/2020

I was pulling up to a family member's car port, behind their car. The car port has a grass portion leading up to the gravel section where they park their car. I pulled in slowly when my 2020 Equinox suddenly accelerated! I was on the brake, but the vehicle kept accelerating causing it to run into the back of the family member's car. My vehicle continued to accelerate shoving the car forward sandwiching it between my vehicle and their home. I was able to put it in neutral as the engine continued revving up the rpms. I put the vehicle in reverse with both feet on the brake. The car lurched backward. I managed to put it in park and shut off the engine. I contacted my dealer (my vehicle has 1656 miles on it, and I have only had it for about one month). I talked with someone in the service department and was told that my floor mats caused it to happen because they had seen this before. My floor mats were well below the accelerator pedal. The vehicle rpms surged. Even if there had been a problem with the mats, I don't think the rpms would have jumped up as high as they did. The family member's vehicle was totaled. I am waiting to hear from my insurance CO. They vehicle is being towed to a dealership.

3 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

Vehicle was in motion approximately 45 mph when check engine light came on, message then appeared that engine power is reduced and speed immediately dropped to around 15 mph and then to a rough idle at approx 5-10mph. Was almost rear ended by vehicle traveling behind me. I was able to limp remaining 2 miles home and contacted dealer. Appointment was made and dealer reported code p2135 and replaced throttle body. . Dealer said throttle didn't know up from down. Dealer stated this is a common problem with the Equinox. I have read many complaints online about this same issue with other owners reporting being put in a dangerous position with the sudden drop in speed like we were. I contacted chevy gm and they said there were no recalls. If rapid acceleration has been treated by other companies as recall worthy, I dont understand why chevy does not consider this recall worthy. I have attached the repair report with this complaint.

5 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 01/04/2017

Unintended acceleration!! while driving on the freeway at 70 mph without the cruise the vehicle suddenly was under full acceleration. My wife immediately asked "what is happening". My first reaction was to apply the brake which caused the acceleration to cease. I then called onstar to report the problem and they responded that my tire pressures are ok and no codes were detected. I took it to the dealership where I purchased it and they checked for codes, drove it , inspected and could not find a problem. I called customer survice and was basically told there was nothing they could do because there was "no trouble found". This car had less than 900 miles when this problem occurred. I am a former final assembly electronics test engineer for delphi and know how sofware problems can be difficult to diagnose. I know what I experienced and for gm to ignore this safety problem because a service tech did not recover a trouble code or be able to repeat the problem in a 45 mile test drive simply infuriates me. What would happen if the vehicle decided to accelerate while waitinf for a light to change at a busy intersection?.
