Electronic Stability Control Problems of Chevrolet Equinox - part 2

Had my Equinox for couple years without any problems. Just recently abs light came on along with traction control. SUV slides to the side when applying breaks. A month before this started engine light kept turning on and off. Didn't stay long enough to see whats wrong. Gas gauge does not show correct amount of fuel 1 out of 5 days.

About 3 weeks ago I went to start my Equinox with the key and when I put it in the ignition my vehicle would not start at all. The vehicle was parked on a city street. Then the beginning of December I had gone over a little bump and my dash started showing up with warning lights saying �service stabiliz� and �all-wheel drive off�.

I was driving one day and these lights popped on out of no where the exhaust resginator cracking the car constantly has wheel bearing issue and the engine is burning oil it's not doing what it's supposed to do with it. I was driving on the l-90 thruway at 65 mph. I. Am also having head light blowing I have changed the headlights 4 times this year.

I stalled out in the middle of driving, the check engine light came on and then a message saying the engine power was low. The car would not start or go into neutral however I was able to put the hazard lights on as well as the radio and on-star. The tow truck driver got it started in low gear to get it on the tow truck, but it didn't start again. I was on a city street in rush hour, going less than 15 mph. I just got my vehicle back from service at the mirak. Com dealership in arlington, MA, and apparently the issue was: "caused perform scan tool test. The tech "extract codes with scan tools". I was told that it "just needed a software update". The vehicle did not provide any alerts prior to the incident or show any signs of an issue, so this is very alarming and a significant safety concern.

While driving engine completely shutoff with no warning on a busy highway blocking traffic lights did not dim or anything. Something needs to be done about this engine . Timing. Was the issue due to burning so much oil.

A few days ago after work I stopped for gas and took a different route home. I live in a city with traffic so I idle a lot. While stopped, my �service stabilitrak� and �engine power reduced� came on. There was no where I could go but up the expressway. Once I sped up, the car proceeded to turn off. Luckily I was able to pull over onto the shoulder on top of the expressway. After that, the car wouldn't turn on anymore. After about 30 minutes, everything started flickering and then it had no electricity running at all. Not even my emergency lights. This was really scary because ppl are driving really fast next to me and and it was already night time. I finally got help and had it towed the next morning. The key was stuck in the ignition but still no sign of life until after it was towed. I can't afford to take it in just yet but I am extremely scared to drive it as I am a single parent with no family in this new city.

I started having issues after a couple months of buying my vehicle. My rpm would sputter and I would always check my oil and it would be a quart low. This went on for months and I continued to drain money into my vehicle with buying oil. I replaced seals thinking it was a oil leak and it wasn't it. My engine finally was just shot so now I'm out of a car and owe money on it still and don't have the money to repair my vehicle. I am very upset with this model of vehicle bc I did research on it and a lot of compliants on this car burning oil. Crazy that no one is doing anything to fix the issue. I guess chevy is crap now and just want to loose customers. I won't be buying a chevy again and will not recommend.

My airbag light and 'service air bag' light and abs light and stabalize track light were all on for a few week and I took it to local shop who said the sensor for the brakes under driver seat was bad so that cost $580. 00 for new module. That took care of abs/stabilize lights. Had to to go dealer for airbag lights and they charged $1070. 00 because the airbag module under passenger seat was out and had to replace (part 560 plus labor). I don't feel like I should have had to pay for the airbags!! the airbag lights were on for about 6 months and never went off so I finally got tired of it. . . No matter if someone was sitting in seat or not, or whether it was idle, in motion, etc.

The plastic blend arm for the heater selector motor broke, which seems to be happening on the Equinox cars. It causes the heater to blow cold air only. This happened on a city street while traveling to the store. When I turned the heater on it made a funny noise like it wasn't engaging. The windows wouldn't defrost while I was driving.

I was almost in a rollover accident on oct 7, 2019. I was travelling on state highways from auburn, PA to hershey, PA at apprx 930am. Roads were damp/wet but rain had stopped. Since I purchased my vehicle, I had always engaged all safety features including lane keep assist (lka), collision alerts, etc. This was main reason I upgraded from my 2014 Equinox. On rt 183, heading up a winding mountain road, I almost lost control several times, despite driving well under speed limit. **note: my bf and I had previously complained to dealer, and even had it in for service, bc we both felt car pulled to the right on its own. We are both extremely safe, experienced, non-distracted drivers and thought something was quite odd/off. Dealer found nothing. Closer to hershey, I was coming around a bend in the road on I believe rt 743 when suddenly my car pulled me severely to the right and almost over an embankment, which would have led to a rollover crash and potential serious injury or death. By the grace of god, and great driving, I just missed a stone wall, and my ?1/4 mile swerving skid back and forth ping-ponged me all over the roadway, barely avoiding mailboxes, fences, and a house. Luckily oncoming traffic did not appear until I straightened out of my skid. I called the dealer and said "my car just tried to kill me. " after research, they called me back and said to turn off the lka. I have, and car no longer pulls to the right, ever. I read the manual, and buried around page 254 is a small black box warning that says to disengage lka on wet, curving roads or collisions may occur. Really???? people can die, and the warning is buried on page 254??? I have talked to other newer car owners who have had similar experiences in other cars/brands. I think these "safety features" are a double edge sword and need further research. I almost died.

I was driving to work this morning when I went over train tracks. As soon as I did my "stbilitrak" light came on. All wheel drive turned off as well as abs. My car would no longer accelerate. I tried to break and nearly lost control of the vehicle. I'm upset with my vehicle. I have had so many problems with it. I have always owned a chevy, but I think they quality in work is decreasing. I will be thinking about what kind of car I will get next. I prefer chevy since it's all our family has every bought, however I'm sick of having unexpected problems with it.

Alot is going on with my 2010 chev my exhaust pipe crack and I was told that is a real problem with chevy's my car is consuming way to much oil I constantly have to get oil changes. My driver side head light keeps going out I'm changing my head light 2-3 times a year. I replaced my spark plugs and coils a few months ago and my car when I'm driving it will stop and the wheel will lock up while I'm driving it .

Purchased new car on September 7 2019. Started having car issues on 9/25/2019 took car in on 9/27/2019. Car was making loud screeching noises, brake pedal would get hard. Was hard to break. When reversing screeching noise would get louder and louder. Was told by a Chevrolet technician car was fine it was because it was new. Took car in once again on 12/26/2019 vehicle would randomly not turn on, brake pedal would get hard, car would screech. Came to the point were I was scared to take the car to the grocery store because I was unsure on whether the car would randomly not start. Inform Chevrolet of everett and was told it was 3 bolts, and was given the car back. Took car to California after the dealer told me car was completely safe. 1/14/2020 car was towed to dealership because it would not turn on. Called Chevrolet they said they do not know what is wrong with the car. They do not understand why it turns off and why it won't turn on. Called gm motors they said they are unable to help but I can start a case in which I did. Went to Chevrolet on 1/24/2020 they said they have no idea on why the vehicle is having starting problems, tried making me take the vehicle home knowing it is unsafe because they can't fix it. Car has been sitting in shop now for 14 days and no one has information on how to help me, nor has anyone contacted me, I have calling records on how many calls I've made to gm motors trying to get a hold of anyone who can help me but they always state no one is available to help me. Gm motors also did �advice�me to not seek any legal help if I wanted to be helped.

While driving on city streets and highways the lights dim and the radio will shut off and all lights on the dash will bim and blink. When I have the cruz control on the car will start picking up speed, and one point I felt I was going a little to fast and when I looked down I was doing 83 mph and I had the cruze control set to 60 mph. Angel the driver seat will move down on its own while I am driving. I do not feel this is right. I called the dealer ship and they said it was more likely a fuse. I do not believe that. My trackstion control goes off by it self also.

Regular oil changes at GMC dealership showed high oil consumption. Chevy dealership replaced transmission 2015 under factory warranty. High oil consumption continued. 2018 engine power shuts down car while idling. Took it to my local mechanic replaced transmission. Drove almost 400 miles on "new transmission" ac not working, idles with high pitch sound when fan is running. Now seat belts lights flash and alarm despite seat belts in buckled position. Engine goes to power down /save mode when driving on freeway at 60mph on highway. This power down (reduction) happens stalls and wont drive. Engine continues to shake and rattle after being put in park and removing key (when turned off).

The car when I drive over the 60 miles, make auto break by self. Is really scary.

The engine oil consumption is 5 to 6 quarts of oil in 3000 miles. This often results in violent vehicle jerking, as well as stability and power reduction, resulting in the engine power to be reduced causing potential collisions in traffic. Turned off vehicle, then turned key and it started long enough to drive into nearest parking lot. Had to press gas peddle all the way down and vehicle would not reverse at at. Tow truck was called and towed to local Chevrolet dealership. It was diagnosed with oil consumption problems due to the 2010 engine that it was built with. Was advised to keep watch on oil until decide how to fix engine.

When driving my car at any time the following lights will come abs / service stabilitrak / all wheel dive - off / service traction contol. Also when driving you may see the brake light come on and my foot would not be on the brake. When hitting the brake I will hear what seems like a grinding notice. I have had brakes check and brakes and rotor on back right wheels replace and still have the same problem. Car dealership does not seem to know what to do. Second time in service. One time I had just pulled off and heard this loud grinding/ scraping noise. It is frightening . Mileage is 63830 can happen on city street or highway this has happen a number of times. With speed as low as 25 or 60. Mph.

While driving, vehicle failed to accelerate and would not shift into next gear, then seemed to jump into higher gear. This caused me to almost be hit by motor vehicle behind me. Second time, I was turning into busy intersection and car completely stalled, turned off key and restarted car and it would not drive over 20 miles an hour so pulled into parking lot and wheel was very hard to control. Car would not go into reverse. Was left stranded on side of road and had vehicle towed to chevy. Has oil consumption issues but recently purchased car and passed date for recalls and warranty repair. Gm needs to offer all previous expired to people such as myself who purchase used vehicles that were never corrected during recall times. Also my VIN was not listed in recall but has the exact issues. This was confirmed by gm.

Car will stop after pressing the break. Wipers no longer work. Now car won't start due to timing belt.

Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the whole dashboard panel had malfunctioned . Anything electronic has been affected. The driver has no backup camera, no speedomer, no odometer, no gas gauge, and no cruise control. This issue is especially an problem during nighttime driving. One dealer graff Chevrolet okemos 1748 w grand river Ave, okemos, mi 48864 (517) 49-8300 said the parts to fix the problem were back ordered and not even being manufacturered at this time. The manufacturer just gave the contact a case number and stated that the parts were back ordered. They said they would speak to the dealer and said to call back in a weeks time. The failure mileage was 56,826. Tf.

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving, the check engine and stability control warning indicators illuminated, and the engine would stall. The vehicle was taken to ferman Chevrolet (9751 alamo dr, tampa, FL) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not determined. The contact indicated that the high pressure fuel pump was previously replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 27,000.

This car burns oil fast and I learned the hard way. 2 years after buying the car all the pistons in the engine bent due to lack of oil. When the car was getting fixed the mechanic said it was bone dry and I had just had an oil change 2 months prior. $3,200 later the car was fixed, but it still had issues shifting. In colder weather the car felt like it would barely move. I had no real mechanical issues until a year later. I had driven it 45 miles and stopped at a gas station, when I went to turn the car back on all of the emergency lights came on as well as the �stabilitrak� light and the car wouldn't move. The only way I could get it to move was by turning the traction off, and was thankfully able to drive it home. I got it into the gm dealership and they said the stability track and the crankshaft needed replaced. My abs light was still failing and I'm total it was another $1,400 of work. Now the engine seems to be making a cranking noise. I'm tired of wasting money on this piece of junk!!!!!.

2 days after driving this 2010 chevy Equinox off the lot. The power steering pump goes out. The power steering had a winding noise since it was replaced, and they told me there may just be air in the line. After riving it that way for a month took it in to get that looked at and they ended up replacing that and said it was a faulty pump. Then days later one of the tire sensors goes out. Had that replaced! then a few hours after driving it that same tire sensor goes out again. This is the worst vehicle that general motors as made!!!!! it had new tires when we bought this vehicle and not even 8 months the two rear tires were making the rear end slide all over the road and after investigating the problem I found the two rear tires had wires showing on the inside of the wheel tread all the way around the wheels. Take it in and the mechanic said it was because we didn't have a tire rotation! well, after replacing the tires, then 6 months down the road the new tires are in the exact same place just on the rear tires. There is no way that you need to have a tire rotation that often. Had them replaced once again. The heat stopped working and only blows cold air! found out that these vehicles are known for this issue. That sensor up under the glove box isn't strong enough to open/close the vent to keep regulating the heat control. Now, the 2nd set of tires have the same wires going around the tires!!!!! major safety issue! if, gm doesn't do something about these issues they are going to be facing a lot of lawsuits or customers going elsewhere. Now the wipers stopped working and like the control arms fell off under the outer dash area!!!! take these vehicles straight to the junkyards. Oh, and the stability trac control issue has happened as well were the vehicle loses all power in the middle of a four-lane freeway!!!.

I got a faulty code of p0010 and my car will cut off at any given time when in drive or reverse. There was another p code that pertained to the bank 1 solenoid and timing chain.

Service esc message came on twice my new 2019 chevy Equinox premier( each time vehicle was stationary). I dismiss message each time so I can see the digital odometer when I drive, and take vehicle to my dealership (each time they don't document the problem). They said, each time, message has to be on for them to detect the problem. Is that true?.

Shortly after I financed the vehicle it started having issues while idling, if I idle too long it will start to shake and will shut down. I have poured money into fixing the vehicle and spent the last two 3 years trying to fix the original issue of it shutting down. I will lose throttle in the gas pedal and it will just turn off out of nowhere while I'm driving away from my home. It seems to not like when I idle or drive slow when I'm on the freeway I have to make sure I'm driving fast the gas pedal keeps throttle if I drive too slow it's a risk for it to starting to shake and shut down again. While trying to find the cause of the problem mechanics have found parts that were years past due of needing replacing. So while they thought that that was the cause of the problem and it looked possible with a condition it was in every time we would think that we have solved the problem until the next day when I try to drive my vehicle and it does the same thing. I have been through five mechanics trying to solve this issue and it is becoming a nightmare not even the dealership could figure it out.

I bought this car about 18 months ago from a used dealer ship after the car turned 12 months the car started saying it was over heating but when looking at the vehicle it was not hot at all the sensor just said overheating all the way to the red when the car read overheating the radiator fluid overflowed with out being hot when opening the lid there where air bubbles with no heat. I have spent over $1000 dollars trying to fix the problem with still no success when it said over heating the car starts slowing down and then it stops where ever you are at right away sometimes in the middle of the road. When at time it said over heating the heater stops working. I have had to let the air out several time a day and now it said overheating as soon as I leave my home. I have done some research and I am not the only one with this problem I have tried everything others have suggested but nothing works. I have got a new radiator, water pump, temperature sensor ,thermostat, filter and still nothing. I took it to get it checked with the computer and 18 sensors went off and 8 where failed sensors. I wanted to bring this to your attention it has happened to a lot of other people just google it and you will see. I just want people to be safe and this car is not safe I have children and I live in a area that has cold weather for 3 months. I have been stuck in that car when it read over heating when it was not. I have bought about over 39 bottles of radiator fluid to keep it full but one bottle last me less the a day. Thank you very much for letting me inform you of this concern. I have gotten stuck on he highway and street with my kids. The car is now just seating in my drive way.

Radio screen goes on and off by its self and back up camera won't come on in reverse and car starts on it own with doors lock and no keys in it don't have self start button on key.

Back on Jan 14, 2019 oil was changed as part of routine at a service station. Operator suggested we take it in to the dealers as part of an oil consumption recall he heard about, within 200 miles we took it into a dealership for the test to be performed and they refused to do it due to a rear main seal leak that no one mentioned earlier or at the oil change place. They wouldn't repair it as part of the gm service bulletin 14882 (which is what caused the issue) had to pay $1700 just to get the seal fixed so they could perform the test on an issue gm already was aware of! vehicle finally failed the consumption test and had the recall done at another dealership. Within 3 weeks of being fixed multiple electronic issues have popped up like the stabilitrak disabling, engine power decrease warning, stalling when in idle, burnt smell, air bag lights, and above avg engine noises and has shut down on the highway. Taking it back to the dealer who fixed it to see what can be done. This is my wife's daily driver and takes our kids everywhere so it's imperative that people read this an really think hard before buying this gm product if you've got a family. Current;y under 91,000 miles but it seems like oil changes became more frequent around 75,000 without warning of oil being low.

While driving my speed suddenly reduced and I got a message on my dashboard that said service stabilitrack engine power reduced.

Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated when the vehicle was stationed a traffic light, she had to depress the accelerator paddle to the floor to get the vehicle to move forward. The warning message " service stabili trak" appeared on the dash panel. The contact took the vehicle bergey's Buick GMC(446 harleysville pike, souderton, PA 18964) where the vehicle was diagnosed with an wiring issue. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure reoccured. The contact then took the vehicle to flemington Buick GMC Cadillac(211 us-202, flemington, NJ 08822) where the contact is not sure if an diagnostic was ran. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Case was filed. However, no assistance offered. The failure mileage was 36000.

This vehicle is one of several that have been reported to have problems with wheel speed and psi sensors, which then causes the traction control to believe computer wise it has no traction, therefore the light is always on and the computer sometimes shut the traction control off when it needs to be on. It also has airbag trouble with the passenger seat, also like the recall. However, despite the fact 2007's were issued this recall, it's saying my �VIN� does apply to these recalls. Find that hard to believe when these things are messed up. Just want gm motors to awknowledge it's possible that this vehicle was mismanufactured.

Purchased my pre-driven SUV 88 days ago. After pumping gas, I attempted to start my car & it wouldn't start. I turned off the radio, tried again because it was cold out it started but simultaneously the �check engine light� canmr on. While idling at a traffic light less than a min later, it cut-off again! another car was right behind me. I turned on my flashers & started up again. When attempting to pulling out of the parking lot at my next stop, it cut-off again! I restarted my car, kept my flashers on and prayed while driving down the street trying to arrive home to beat the expected �icestorm� I called the service dept but they were closed but would call back. The next morning I had my car towed back to the dealer - 13 miles away. The service dept. Has had had my car for more than 2 days & couldn't identify the problem. They eventually said the error code was p0010. The part needed was: cam shaft position acuator. The extended warranty that the dealer suggested & I paid for, refused to cover parts, labor or rental reimbursement even after arguing with the service mgr. Judging by the comments/complaints this is a serious problem with the Equinox, I'm not the only one. I am a widow, on disability & need a reliable vehicle but this defect has placed me in a very serious situation. I could have been rear-ended or much worse seriously injured. This is dangerous! this needs to be recalled and remedied once-and-for-all. I had no prior knowledge or I wouldn't have purchased this car! ( I was asked to verify the type of gas - regular unleaded not diesel & I have my receipt of purchase. ).
