1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 04/14/2021

The vehicle started leaking gas from the tank at the rear after sitting for 20 minutes. This problem has already been recalled on vehicles of this caliber and year, just the all wheel drive version. Not exactly sure how long this has been going on because I typically don't go behind the car. As for the passenger side, the warning light on the mirror stopped working at about 15,000 miles. Very possibly sooner.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 02/03/2021

After refueling vehicle, I noticed a strong gas odor that did not go away for several days. I took the vehicle the a chevy dealer who identified the problem as a cracked fuel tank connector, as shown in the attached photo. Apparently gm has recognized the issue and has since redesigned the part, as shown in the second attached photo. This vehicle has under 80k miles, has never been in an accident, nor had any other incident that would have caused the part failure. The failure appears to be a stress crack due to a defective, over-stressed, poorly designed, or poorly assembled part. In short, this part should not have failed. Furthermore, the failure represents a dangerous situation, due to the fuel leak that occurred. The repair was on the order of $1500, because the dealer indicated that both the gas tank and filler neck needed to be replaced. This is a substantial repair for a relatively low-mileage vehicle.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 06/02/2020

Had a foul fuel smell, found out gas tank needed to be replaced. Repair facility stated that chevy had the tank in ready,no issue to order one. Sounds like some one was ready for this to happen. No assistance from the dealer or Chevrolet. Drivers side from door to rear of car paint is falling off. I can see and feel some sort of bubbles under the paint. Looks like no recall.

First there was smell in driver side back passenger seat. Then the smell got stronger outside car, right driver wheel well. Took to my mechanic for over 20 years and he verified smell and was able to stick his hand up and feel wet spot on top/ side of gas tank. Both with car in motion and stopped. The 2007 Equinox has a recall for the exact same complaint, gas smell in driver side passenger seat and wheel well. I called Chevrolet and there is a notice but no recall. They are using the same plastic part on the both cars and the part may deteriorate or defective on both years.

Failure Date: 10/14/2018

Takata recall- I started smelling gasoline a couple of days ago and it seems like gas is leaking above the gas tank on the passenger side. When I first smelled it, I was parked at the store but now I smell it while driving and while it is parked!!.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

As many others, I now have a leaking fuel sending unit on our 2007 chevy Equinox. Many people have this same problem and chevy chooses not to address it for us by issuing a recall. When the vehicle is running the fuel system is pressurized which causes fuel to spray out of a faulty joint which is made of plastic that cracks, the fuel then drips down from the tank as it pleases around the exhaust and on to the floor.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 05/22/2018

I purchased a 2007 chevy Equinox from a private party back in January but due to a mix-up with the title and the previous owner I could not title the car and start driving it until March. I've noticed lately a strong smell of gas and a very loud clunking noise from the driver side front wheel. I took it to a local shop in my town and was told I had a gas leak at the top of the tank and that the sway bar linkage needed to be replaced . In doing my research I found that there was a recall for the fuel leak on the 2007 Equinoxes and that many people have had problems with the sway bar linkage going bad and the service stable track light constantly staying on. I also have the problem stating all wheel drive off flashing on my screen. I found that many people put their VIN numbers in the search window and found theirs not to be part of the recall but I'm wondering why if more than just the previous recalled vehicles are having the same issue wouldn't they want another recall issued for the ones that haven't been repaired. I just took it to a gm dealer today in my hometown and they want over $1,400 to fix just the fuel leakage problem I need to know what gm is going to do about it. I don't have 1400 extra dollars to fix this gas leak and I'm scared to drive the vehicle for fear of it starting on fire.

My vehicle should have two recalls; first the airbags. When my passenger is sitting in the seat the check engine light will come on telling me to check my airbag and the airbag light is off. I'm not sure if it will deploy if I get in an accident or if it will on its own one day hurting my passenger. Second, my vehicle smells like gasoline. It smells worse when I fill the tank up and its doesn't start right away. I am driving my vehicle since this is the only vehicle I have. Failure Date: 08/01/2014

This car has been a lemon since I got her. She has had so many problems from stereo, brakes, motor and now the gas tanks leaks. We had received a recall letter months ago stating that this was a recall but if you do not smell fuel, then don't worry about it. Well, now we do and I have called gm and was told that their system was down and that they would call us back. They also told us that without the recall letter they couldn't help us. I am looking for the letter but shouldn't they have this on record? that was over a week ago and still no answer. We have contacted the dealership where I bought the car and still no response. What do we have to do to get some answers?.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

The fuel line on the 2012 Equinox (is a flex fuel, don't know if that makes any difference) is plastic and not protected from road hazards. The line runs close to the frame on the driver¿s side from the rear to front of the car. About where the driver side passenger door is, the fuel line has blue plastic connectors fastening the plastic fuel line. This section of fuel line and the blue connector tabs sit lower than the vehicle frame. (there is also another section in from the rear tire that sits a little higher, but still unprotected) . Road hazards such as ice chunks, hard snow, dirt/gravel roads with ruts or high center, dirt clots, rocks, dead animals or anything that is about 7- 8 inches or higher ( or gets knocked up there) will break these plastic connectors or fuel line and gas will pour out of the vehicle. My fuel line broke by hitting a small mound of snow that had frozen overnight, by backing out of my driveway. After quickly noticing the fuel leak I rushed to a local auto shop (less than 4 miles) and lost about a full tank of gas before getting there. None of the local dealers had this part, was without a vehicle for 3 days.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 02/07/2013

On 7 Feb. 2013 I took my vehicle into my local chevy dealer to have it checked out as there was a constant smell of fuel. I was informed that the fuel tank would need to be dropped to locate the cause of the fuel leak though there was no visible sign of leaking fuel. I was informed that the fuel module that set above the fuel tank had cracked and was causing the smell/leak. I was infomed that to repair the issue it would cost me over $1200. 00 to repair. I contacted gm and was informed that my vehicle was not involved in the current recall that is ongoing in four other states. I inquired as to why and was informed that my vehicle was not registered nor did I reside in one of the states and there was nothing they could do. I informed gm that it should not matter as to were I lived that they should recall all Equinox as this is a safety issue that should be corrected. I was given reference # from gm in case there is a decision to recall the Equinox for this problem. As other complaints have stated it should not matter were the vehicle is registered if there is this type of problem it should be fixed by gm at no cost to the consumer.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

There is a harsh smell of fuel coming from somewhere in the fuel tank area. There is no fuel leaks to be found. When starting the vehicle, the starter seems to stay engaged for a few seconds.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 12/15/2012

Vehicle smelled of gasoline odors underneath becoming worse daily until leakage was obvious by gasoline puddles on ground directly under vehicle. After numerous attempts to find a recall or a solution to my problem I finally received information from local gm dealers that there were no recalls concerning my complaint even though several complaints similar to mine had been made. So, I was left with no other alternative but to attempt to fix the problem myself. After the hoses, clamps, restraints, and tank was removed it was apparent that I could not fix it so I had a mechanic to come out, proceed with removing and replacing the leaking lines and hoses and reassembling the tank back onto the vehicle's undercarriage. Of course this would end up costing me 9 arms and 3 legs but at that time the Chevrolet dealer in tupelo ms. Informed me that there was no recall in effect for my problem but that his staff would be more than happy to check out my problem and fix and replace any broken and or defected parts but they would only do so if and when I delivered my vehicle to their shop, also at my expense. A few months after all this happened and a few months ago, gm sent out a brochure stating that there was indeed a recall regarding my specific problem and that I should take immediate action to get my vehicle to the gm dealer (closest one from pontotoc being tupelo - dealership name withheld) where it would be professionally repaired free of any charges to me. If there indeed is or ever was a recall covering my problem, shouldn't there also be a reinstatement fee associated with it for victims that have been misinformed or who's problem initiated before the actual recall went into effect or is this just another way the auto companies make more money off the same individuals that paid the price to bail them out in the first place? concerned citizen (taxpayer).

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 10/08/2012

Have a 2007 Equinox with fuel leak at top of fuel tank. Dealer says same issue as the ones with the recall notice, yet my vehicle is not on the list. Dealer says $1300 to repair unless I receive recall notice, but it probably would not happen. Dealer also stated have seen several vehicles with same issue and not on recall list. If so many vehicles have same defect, then why are they not all being recalled? does there have to be a fire or explosion or fatality before something general motors does something?.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 09/17/2012

We start to smell a very heavy odor of gasoline, we stop and looked to find out what was happening but could not find any gasoline leaking on ground, we took it for grant that maybe the gas tank had an over fill, but the problem just kept continuing to get worst, we happen to hear a news report about gas leak problem with 2007 chevy Equinox so we took it to the dealer and they said they did not have any knowledge of a recall and we would have to pay about $1000. 00 to repair problem and try to get money back from general motors( ourisman Chevrolet, in bowie MD. ).

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 09/16/2012

Parked the car in the garage, and came back out a few minutes later and gasoline fumes were overwhelming. Removed it from garage and saw puddle of gasoline near the back gas tank, underneath the car. Before I took it to the dealership the next morning, looked up online to see if anyone else had experienced this problem with this model of car. I found six (6) pages of complaints for the same thing. It was the pressure hose to pump line resulting from a faulty pump. I also noted that the majority of these pump failures happened around the same mileage, which tells me there should be some type of recall on these pumps and pump lines. If I had not gone back into the garage, I am sure I would have had a major fire in the garage or in the car.
