The vehicle cannot be shifted into neutral if the vehicle runs out of gas. There is no way to shift to neutral and roll it to the side of the road. The vehicle ran out of gas on the interstate, automatically braked and could not be moved out of the middle of the interstate. To make matters worse, this was in a construction zone.
Car started fine, pulled it out of the garage, shut it off, went out to start it up two hours later, it started after cranking a bit but stalled, started for a quick second again but stalled again right away, just kept cranking as I tried it, the check engine light on, I put a code reader on and code told me it was the code for fuel pump module, my vehicle is a 2022 Equinox and only has a little over 9300 miles on it. Definitely not something that should’ve happened with that low of miles but yet somehow my VIN was not included in a 2023 recall, I was told it wasn’t anyways!.

I felt ill for a few months. Started to smell gasoline in my garage and inside the car. When I sent in, the fuel feed hose was leaking and not attached and damaged. My car could have blown up at any time, and I inhaled fumes probably for months.
I am reporting a vehicle fire involving a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox [xxx] ). The fire originated in the engine compartment. The official fire report lists the causes as "undetermined", with the area of origin identified under the hood. There were no prior warning lights, mechanical issues, or indications that a fire risk was present. The vehicle was being used under normal conditions and was properly maintained to my knowledge. The vehicle was declared a total loss by my insurance company. Due to the undetermined cause and engine compartment origin, I am concerned there may have been a potential mechanical or electrical defect that was not identified. I am submitting this report in case similar incidents have occurred and to support an potential investigation int vehicle safety. I was on a road trip and halfway through my check engine light came on and notified me that engine power was reduced while on a 70mph highway. My car the slowed itself down to not exceed 45 then 25mph. I was in a remote area and very far away from a chevy dealership. I was forced to drive for a long distance to make it to a chevy dealership that was willing to work with me. Come to find out my fuel pump failed and the car is only 2 years old with only 58,000 miles. This same issue happened a few months ago and I was told by my dealership that it was just update codes required by chevy that did not update correctly. I’ve had several other issues like this and have been told it’s because the new cars are “basically giant computers”. This car also got a new battery after one year because they stated a faulty or crappy manufacturer battery they put it went bad. My local dealership then tried to charge me for it until I reminded them of my warranty. I take my car for regular oil changes under the 6,000 miles to keep my warranty forever. I was terrified driving on highway roads when my car wouldn’t exceed the required speed limit causing other motorists to navigate around me all because I needed to make it to a chevy dealership willing to work with me.

2017 Chevrolet Equinox premier certified pre-owned vehicle experienced multiple safety-related defects. 1. Repeated starting failures (electrical/battery/starter system): - March 17, 2026: complete battery failure, vehicle would not start. Aaa/gm roadside assistance called. Dealer inspected but could not diagnose root cause or explain battery drain. Preceded by unusually loud windshield wiper motor and engine noise (March 15). - April 13, 2026 (4:01pm): engine failed to turn over twice in parking lot before starting on third attempt. Safety risk: sudden starting failures create stranding hazard and risk of being rear-ended in traffic. 2. Water intrusion through headliner (sunroof/headliner/mic assembly): - April 15, 2026 (10:40-10:45am): approximately 1 ounce of water poured from headliner/radio microphone assembly directly into driver's eyes while driving on expressway. Continued dripping intermittently for hours. Safety risk: complete vision obstruction while driving at highway speeds. 3. Intermittent safety chimes (electrical/infotainment): - ongoing for weeks: five rapid electronic dings with no dashboard warning lights or indicators. Occurs sporadically while driving (10 occurrences in one recent day). Dealer previously informed by phone but no resolution. Safety risk: distracting chimes with no identifiable warning create driver confusion. 4. Additional electrical: remote start now works intermittently. All components available for NHTSA/manufacturer inspection. Dealer confirmed March 17 battery inspection but found no cause. No manufacturer inspection. No warning lamps preceded any failures except unexplained chimes. Problems began immediately after certified pre-owned purchase despite carbravo certification. Safety defects render vehicle unreliable and hazardous.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 75 mph my 2022 Chevrolet Equinox lost power, the engine stalled, and I was forced to pull over into a construction zone. The engine would not restart and the check engine indicator was on. Onstar messaged me via email that a fault p129f was detected. I had the vehicle towed to my home where I performed some additional diagnostics and determined that while similar to product safety recall n222372310 inadequate fuel pump flow, the issue was not with the fuel pump but with the fuel pump controller module mounted under the vehicle. I replace the module with an official gm replacement module part number 13554821 which resolved the issue with the fuel system in my vehicle. I still have the faulty fuel pump controller module in my possession (see attached picture).
The fuel pump module was a recall under n222372310 - safety recall in 2023. This recall was complete by a dealership. The recall fuel pump module assembly it was replace July 2023 with part number fuel pump module 84782007. On April 13, 2026 (33 months later) the car would not start, if it did start it was stall and die. When it also run rough if it would start, then die again. I had to have the car towed to the dealership. The dealership said the fuel pump module was out again! the exact same problem the first recall was suppose to correct did not solve the problem. At this time there is not a new recall on this matter. The part that replaced the original fuel pump module did not solve the problem. The replacement part appears faulty as well. Had my car ben in traffic or on the highway it is possible I would have lost all power to the car which could have resulted in crash.
The vehicle's fuel pump failed. Like many 2022 chevy Equinoxes, ours has a fuel pump that failed while on a road trip 10 hours from home. However, ours was also not part of the recall batch for failing fuel pumps. There were no warning lights or lamps or other signs, and at 27,000 miles, we would never expect for our fuel pump to fail. It seems quite clear that this is part of the overall failure of 2022 chevy Equinox fuel pumps, and this batch should be included in the recall.
While operating our vehicle on traveling at approx. 45 mph during mid-day traffic, the engine on our vehicle died and would not restart. We had no power steering and had to wrestle the vehicle off the road the check engine light was on and we tried repeatedly to restart the engine without any luck. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership for diagnosis and repair, it was determined that a fuel pump power control module had failed and that it would cost $599. To repair. We approved the repairs and then approached gm for reimbursement after discovering that this same part was recalled by gm ref # n252516900 which covered the make, model and year of our vehicle. We contacted gm customer relations and after speaking with them multiple times they approved a partial adjustment on the bill for approximately $150. I explained that according to their campaign notice and ongoing issues with this component we wanted a full refund and would not accept a partial payment of 1/3 our cost. Gm refuses to stand behind their product even though our vehicle only has 27,500 miles. I spoke with the service manager at the dealership, and he suggested I contact gm customer service and they should resolve the problem since this was an ongoing issue.
The engine failed while driving on the highway on two separate occasions due a fuel pump issue. The first time it happened, it was just reduced power (could only drive maybe 40 miles an hour). I brought it to the dealership and they said that general motors told them it needs a software update which they completed. However the second time it happened (4 months later) it was full engine shutdown in the left lane on a 65mph highway with my family (including my toddler) in the car. The first time it happened we were able to make it home by driving with the hazard lights on very slowly. But the second time we were doing the 65 mph speed limit in the left lane on a 3 lane highway. To avoid causing a pile up of cars or a deadly accident, we had to use the momentum of the speed we were going to try to safely drift across three lanes of congested traffic just to make it safely to the shoulder. We were then stuck on the side of the highway in the sun on an 80 degree day with a car with no power. I had to remove my two year old from the car so he didn't get heat exhaustion and stand on the side of the highway holding him in the little bit of shade we could find. The car then had to be towed back to my dealership over an hour away because it would not even turn on. The dealership was not able to replicate the issue the first time it happened, but did the software update that the manufacturer recommended. To my knowledge its only been inspected by the dealership. The only warning signs/messages/lights were the ones happening as the engine was failing/shutting down. There was no advanced warning. This care is less than two years old and its a leased vehicle from the dealership down repairs, I work from home there are less than 20k miles on I, this is not neglect on my part or over usage in anyway of the vehicle.
One morning, in an attempt to start my car, it would not start. Instead, it lit up the check engine light. The engine was turning over and attempting to start, but would not start. I know someone with a code reader device that I asked to come hook up to my car and read what code was causing my check engine light to pop up. The reader displayed the code u18a2 which indicates a "lost communication with fuel pump control module (fpcm)". This commonly causes a no-start or stalling condition due to a broken can bus wire, corroded harness, or faulty fpcm ground. Key fixes involve repairing wiring along the frame rail. Many versions of the 2020 Equinox have already been recalled for a fuel pump control module problem, and I was trying to inquire whether or not my vehicle qualifies as part of the recall for the fuel pump module.
While the vehicle was in park and still running it started sputtering and idling erratically and the engine shut off. While trying to restart, the car was having a hard time starting, eventually starting with the same problem. While driving, the car was sputtering, had reduced engine power, and felt like it was going to shut down. The check engine light was on the entire duration of the incident. This has been a recurring intermittent problem that first occurred approximately three months ago. Car has been to the dealer before but the problem didn’t occur and they were unable to diagnose the issue. When taking the car to the dealership on 09 March, the dealer confirmed the problem and said it was a faulty fuel pump that will cost over $800 to repair. After a brief internet search, I found safety bulletin ns2450160 that includes 2023-2024 chevy Equinox vehicles for this exact problem but it doesn’t include my VIN.
Recall/loss of power I am filing a safety complaint regarding a 2023 chevy Equinox. The vehicle began losing engine power and will not go over 40 mph. This creates a dangerous driving situation because the vehicle cannot maintain highway speed. The vehicle has a fuel system recall, and the issue appears to be related to the fuel system. The vehicle is currently at a Chevrolet dealership and has been there for almost a month. The vehicle is currently inoperable. This is a safety concern because loss of engine power while driving could cause an accident. I am requesting that this issue be investigated as a safety defect. Sincerely, [xxx] VIN [xxx] mileage: 63,000 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My 2024 chevy Equinox went into limp mode on 2-15-26 and gave me engine codes p228c and p0089. I encountered limp mode once before this date but no check engine light went on. It lost acceleration while driving. I took it to henna Chevrolet in austin, TX and they told me that I am outside of the warranty window even though the vehicle has less than 60k miles. They told me that it would have been under the basic 36,000 mile warranty.
The vehicle experienced multiple instances of sudden engine stall and loss of motive power while navigating active downtown intersections and airport terminal lanes in atlanta, GA. These failures occurred without warning, leaving the vehicle immobilized in high-traffic areas, including a turn in a multi-lane roadway. This defect creates an unreasonable risk of a rear-end collision or being stranded in hazardous traffic conditions. Incident chronology: initial failure: in February 2026, the vehicle stalled in an intersection. After a manual reset of the check engine light (cel), the vehicle stalled again during a turn. Diagnostic codes p228c (fuel pressure regulator 1 exceeded control limits) and p0089 (fuel pressure regulator 1 performance) were present. First attempted repair: the dealership performed a technical service bulletin (TSB)/recall procedure to calibrate the fuel pump and pressure sensors. Recurrence: immediately upon retrieval, the vehicle stalled again in a "no parking" zone at a major airport after 45 minutes of operation. The vehicle would not restart or maintain idle, necessitating a second tow. Final repair: the dealership replaced the fuel pump assembly. Additional safety concerns: approximately 4,000 miles prior to the fuel pump failure, the vehicle experienced multiple "reduced engine power" events and "service esc" flashes while traveling at highway speeds (approx. 70 mph) in rainy conditions. The dealership replaced all fuel injectors and spark plugs at that time. Manufacturer response: despite the "engine" designation of the diagnostic codes, gm initially claimed the fuel pump was not covered under the powertrain warranty. While partial assistance was provided for repairs, the recurring nature of these stalls suggests a significant reliability issue with the high-pressure fuel system components and engine.
Incident date: February 10, 2026 mileage: 1,260 on the morning of February 10, 2026, my 2026 Chevrolet Equinox ev (1,260 miles) would not start. The instrument cluster simultaneously displayed three warning messages: 1)“service battery fault — vehicle won’t restart,” 2)“charging is unavailable,” and 3)“charge vehicle soon. ” the vehicle could not be placed in neutral and required dolly tow from my garage, as the front wheels were locked and could not roll freely. Aaa and I measured the 12v battery at 11. 8 volts. Aaa technician made attempt to jump 12 volt battery with no success. He made the observation that it was very rare for an ev not to start once the 12 volt battery was jumped. The vehicle was towed to folsom Chevrolet (repair order #558923, opened February 10, 2026). The technician performed a global reset, becm reprogramming, standalone radio programming, and a manual reset procedure. The repair order was closed with “confirmed no further concerns,” however the root cause — identified in the repair notes as a possible hv module communication fault — was never confirmed diagnosed or repaired. Seven days later (February 17, 2026, ro #559167), the vehicle returned to the dealer with overnight 12v voltage loss, starting at 12. 12v and continuing to drop. A parasitic draw test found an 11ma draw. After a second overnight test the dealer closed the repair order as “no concerns found” without identifying or repairing a root cause. Safety concern: a vehicle that cannot be started, cannot be charged, and cannot be placed in neutral poses a serious safety risk — particularly if such a failure occurs on a roadway rather than in a driveway. The inability to shift to neutral prevents the driver from clearing the vehicle from traffic. The root cause of this dual electrical failure has never been confirmed repaired despite two repair attempts.
Got word from the mechanic at the dealership that the cam shaft is leaking oil as well as the fuel injectors retainers are out and need to be sealed as they are also leaking. The engine went into safe mode to prevent any engine fires.

My vehicle keeps jerking/stalling/choking but continues to drive. I went to autzone (01/28/2026) and they ran a check on it. The report states it has to with a fuel tank pressure sensor and that an evaporative emission (evap) system large leak was detected. I need to know in what direction do I need to go to get assistance in this matter. Do I take to the dealer manufacturer to fix the problem or do I contact a lawyer? I have another complaint that was filed with the NHTSA #11711799 on January 18/19, 2026 and no resolution was made. That complaint is for a problem with the mass airflow sensor pertaining to the fuel system. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

While driving my equinoix ev I lost propulsion and the dashboard started flashing. I could coast to curb lane. When fully stopped I turned the car off and on again and propulsion resumed. I have taken it in to the dealership and they said they see no error message and I should continue driving to see if it reoccurs. They suggested I keep cloth to wipe off windshield where sensors are in case it was obscured. This happened in clear weather.

The gas tank was leaking without any warning or incident. The car was not involved in any incident that would have caused damage to the gas tank. The smell of raw fuel was very strong one morning. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer and inspected. Same model and year was under a recall for the gas tank but our particular VIN was not included in the recall. There were no warning signs or symptoms.
Engine stalled possibly due to a faulty fuel pump. I was able to drive the vehicle without issue until I pulled up to my house, when the engine stalled. No warning signs prior to the incident. Proceeded to put the vehicle in park and start the engine again. The engine had trouble starting again, sputtering even when the gas pedal was pressed (no response to the gas pedal). No sound comes from the fuel pump when trying to start. Battery in good condition. Lucky vehicle did not stall while driving down the road at 60 mph. Vehicle will have to be towed to a mechanic.
Within the past two months, I have experienced multiple significant mechanical failures that raise serious concerns about the reliability and safety of this vehicle. First, the air conditioning compressor failed at approximately 55,000 miles. This was an unexpected and costly repair for a vehicle that is only two years old and has been properly maintained. Shortly thereafter, the fuel pump failed. I became aware there was a recall related to the fuel system; however, when the dealership ran my VIN, it did not populate under the recall campaign. Despite this, the component still failed. Now, I am experiencing continued stalling and drivability issues, particularly when coming to a stop or when the automatic start/stop system engages at traffic lights. Based on the symptoms, I believe the secondary fuel pump may also be malfunctioning. A vehicle stalling in traffic creates a clear safety hazard. I rely on this vehicle daily, and repeated fuel system failures at this mileage are unacceptable. I am requesting the following: a full diagnostic review of the fuel system under manufacturer oversight consideration for coverage or reimbursement of recent repairs investigation into whether my vehicle should have been included in the applicable recall assurance that this vehicle is safe to operate I have maintained this vehicle appropriately and did not expect major component failures at 55,000 miles. I am extremely concerned about both reliability and safety moving forward. Please advise on next steps and how Chevrolet intends to address this matter.
My car has a slow crank and when I am driving down the road it cuts off completely and does not want to crank. I have a signal on my car that says reduced speed and the speed is cut down and drags . My car also smells like gas and there is a leak coming from the vehicle it drains really bad . My brakes goes out every few months . My car radio goes out like there is a shortage. Its horrible.
Almost every time I fill up with gas ( I use top tier like the manual states), once I start driving, it feels like it misfires or jerks. It will do it one/ two times and then it’s fine… until I fill up with gas again. It’s been doing this since I got the vehicle- no indicator lights on.
Vehicle went into brake assist failure and would roll in neutral but no drivetrain power or brakes. Dealer took 3 months to find part. Acceleration jerky at stop or while driving. Pedal too sensitive. Constant traction loss from stop at lights and stop signs if not careful on dry pavement. Mode selection to rain/snow helps by restricting power, if it is remembered to be turned on. With rain and snow on the road it becomes challenging. Aggressive safety features that include the automatic braking and alerts. Brakes and alerts on double turn lanes and going forward near passing objects on the side.
My wife and I were driving to galveston on I-45 and were driving through la marque when our car suddenly lost power. I started moving over to the outside lane and went to turn on the emergency lights. I realized the lights were already on. We heard a thump and thought that the serpentine belt had broken and that the engine would overheat, followed up by white smoke coming from the dash vents. My wife opened her window and leaned out the window while I tried to control the SUV without power. A truck pulled next to us and the passenger screamed that our car was on fire. I stepped on the brakes, but my foot went to the floor without effect. I hit the button for the emergency parking brake, but it didn't stop the car. I let the car slow down and then black smoke was coming from the vents. We were choking from breathing the smoke and I tried to open my window, but all electrical systems had quit working. The car finally slowed enough for me to shove the gear shift into park. My wife jumped out of the car and fell to the pavement, also hitting the concrete barrier on the side of the highway. My seat belt was stuck and I kept pushing the button and reached for my pocket knife to cut the belt when it released. At this point, flames were coming from the vents when I reached for the door handle and open the door. I fell out of the car onto the highway, rolling away. I was finally able to get up and saw several vehicles stopped behind us, but some were still driving through. I got away from the car and found my wife who was being helped by another man who stopped ahead of us. The car was on fire, mostly from the back, heavily in the left rear where the gas tank is. The car was completely burned and an unknown retired firefighter said all of the signs point to a defective fuel pump.
Check engine light turns off and on every day and it’s popping up high pressure fuel pump I was told it was a problem with these make year and model vehicles and was considered a recall but was told my VIN didn’t pop up as a recall and have to pay out of pocket I had less than 30,000 miles.
Vehicle unexpectedly stalled 10/5/2024 while driving at 45 mph on a highway. It would not restart. We were able to get to the side of the road and call for a tow truck. It was towed to the dealer where we purchased. It sat in the parking lot for a few days and they were able to restart it. The dealer could not find anything wrong. On 12/19/2025 the vehicle again unexpectedly stalled doing 50 mph on a three lane highway. It would not start. With a lot of beeping and cutting off upset drivers we were able to get the car off the road. We again had it towed to the dealer where we bought it new. They found there was a faulty fuel pump driver module. They replaced the module and we picked up and paid $386. 62. It seems to be running fine now, but found this issue is a recall for many Equinoxes with the same car years but my VIN is not listed in the recall. I also see the replacement modules are being recalled. This is a dangerous situation for myself, my family, passengers and others on the road. This vehicle dies with no warning. No lights go on. It just plain stops running. No one should have to pay for this repair no matter the VIN. Note this Equinox has less than 60,000 miles on it.
Could smell gas, looked under car saw gas dripping on driveway, coming from area where fuel tank is located, looks like it is coming from top of tank. Gas seems to leak only when tank is full and the outside temperature is cold ,below 20 degrees.

Faulty fuel pump caused my vehicle to shut down while driving.
Check engine light was on after just sitting in the snow for two days. Dealer is saying that it is a fuel injector and something with the gas. I hope this fixes it.
Fuel pump located in the fuel tank, known recall on other Equinoxes of this year and model but not all are covered but it is affecting more than what they are willing to cover putting my safety and other drivers safety at risk.
