Automatic transmission slips and shutters/shakes when accelerating and going from a complete stop. Vehicle is not drivable long distances as the issue gets worse as the car heats up. No codes or sensors are indicating a problem. This is an ongoing problem despite having the transmission rebuilt. Issues first started a year ago and have been progressively getting worse.
My 2013 Chevrolet Equinox (~132,000 miles) has a serious and unsafe oil consumption problem. I had a full oil change, and only two weeks later the dipstick was completely dry. The vehicle provided no warning lights, no low-oil indication, and the gm oil life monitoring system gave an inaccurate reading, failing to alert me to the critically low oil level. On November 25, 2025, while stopped with my foot firmly on the brake, the vehicle began constantly jumping and jerking forward as if it was trying to move on its own. During driving, I also began hearing a loud crunching, metal-on-metal noise whenever I accelerated or drove under 50 mph. Because these symptoms started suddenly and were severe, I took the vehicle to my mechanic the same day. On November 26, 2025, the mechanic confirmed that the engine had suffered major internal damage due to running with almost no oil. The timing chain and vvt components needed to be replaced. The mechanic confirmed that oil starvation caused this failure despite a recent oil change, and the inaccurate oil life monitoring system contributed to the hazard by failing to alert me to the critically low oil. This defect presents a significant safety hazard, as the vehicle can jerk unexpectedly, stall, lose power, or suffer sudden engine failure while driving, all without warning. I have since learned that excessive oil consumption and inaccurate oil life readings are widespread in gm 2. 4l ecotec engines. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this safety-related defect.

At 5 am in the morning the car suddenly failed and indicated it was an engine or transmission failure in the middle of a four lane major intersection in a downtown area. It was dangerous due to the darkness, and poor visibility. I had to abandon the vehicle as it was dangerous to stay with it while waiting for police. I could have been injured (as could others) due to its sudden failure in the intersection of a busy roadway. Chevrolet dealership states it is the fuel pump driver module. The car is currently at the dealership for repair. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure until the car suddenly lost power. Once it lost power the engine light lit up and shortly after I had exited the vehicle, I began receiving messages from "on star" telling me that there were engine or transmission problems. Meanwhile I stood in the pouring rain in an unsafe neighborhood, leaning out into traffic to try and stop cars from running head on into my car for over 30 minutes waiting for police.

My Equinox completely stopped functioning in the middle of a major intersection as I was making a left turn during 5pm traffic. I was able to push the car out of the intersection with the help of other drivers (they had to exit their vehicles to assist) and the car restarted - I drove back roads to chevy dealership with the car cutting out unexpectedly twice more while the vehicle was moving and then restarting. No warning light came on. Dealership said my fuel pump "exploded" and pieces were also caught in the fuel injectors and all had to be replaced.

Recently got an oil change, and in a month I’ve had to “top-off” my oil. Constantly have to make sure I carry a few quarts of oil to make sure my oil is filled. One day, I forgot to check the oil and my car was stalling on a busy road. Had to pull over to make sure I put the oil in there. Everyone that I’ve asked said they have the same issue. I stopped asking people after the 10th person. My uncle is a mechanic and he said the same thing about the oil. He said he wasn’t sure where is goes but it just disappears.

For the 4th time since November 2025, my vehicle has shut off while driving and there was a severe gas smell. Check engine and traction control lights on dash. So far the turbo booster and fuel injector have been replaced but the issue keeps happening. This vehicle is not on recall list for high pressure fule pump recall. I think it should be. Vehicle goes into limp mode and all the gas leaks right out of the vehicle making it unsafe to drive due to a fire hazard. I have spent over $4000 trying to make this vehicle safe to drive.
Twice the exhaust has leaked into the cabin to the point where it is very noticeable. It causes headaches and breathing problems. Gm has known of this issue for several years and it has been reported several times. Gm placed a bandaid on it knowing it would fail.

Drove car down street and the car wouldn’t accelerate. Had towed to mechanic who found the direct injection high pressure fuel pump snapped off. When removed from vehicle they found broken bolt in cylinder head and the steel fuel line from pump to injector rail leaking fuel.

On th, Nov 6 ~1700, the 25 Equinox ev being driven encountered an electric drive failure and brake failure, including friction brakes. This Equinox ev is essentially still brand new with 3900 miles and no accident history. The vehicle was driven off the eb sr 528 exit ramp to narcoossee rd in orlando and driven to the stop light at the wb on ramp. After the light changed and began driving, the vehicle console reported an exception with drive assist. At this time the driver attempted to slow down to take stock of the situation and the vehicle accelerated, at which time the driver took their foot off the brake pedal and attempted to identify a place to take the vehicle off the roadways. Thankfully a stoplight at mccoy rd was green and the driver continued through that light and while attempting to brake, the vehicle accelerated instead. The driver then coasted, maneuvering the vehicle was into the vista palms commercial center. The vehicle, unresponsive to braking, propelled through a stop sign into the kohl's parking lot at which time the driver began looping around the lot until the weight of the vehicle brought the motion down. While the vehicle was stopped, it rotated through warning messages indicating. . Forward collision, brake assist is reduced, steering assist is reduced, then finally service transmission now unable to shift soon. The vehicle was towed by aaa to autonation Chevrolet airport in orlando. Technicians found codes u1610 and u1639, and found k160 connecter unseated. It was reseated and greased. The concern is that this should have been locked and unable to be unseated. Is this an indication of manufacturing problem or operating problem? all braking was dysfunctional. How can we be certain that this was not a one off event?.

Returning home on I-40 on Sunday, the engine just quit working. Fortunately it was Sunday and the traffic was light. Had there been more traffic, someone probably would have hit me from the rear. We managed to get it almost all of the way off the road before it stopped. According to the dealership that worked on it, it was the fuel supply service module, $46. 09 part. The service technician said they had been having a lot of problems like this and knew what to do. All of the code were lost because to tow truck driving had to take the leads off of the battery. That was the only way he could get the car out of park in order to tow the vehicle.
My car has been shutting down or going into limp mode. It has happened 4 times now and has left me stranded. The second time it happened I was going highway speeds and car lost power causing me to almost get rearended trying to pull my car off road. The 3rd time it happened my car stahled while idling and I could not get it to start back up in the middle of traffic at intersection. I have had injector and pipe replaced, ecm updated and now its going back to dealer as it is currently broke down again.
In September 2025 engine light came on and the message engine power is reduced. The message and light went off. In October 2025 the engine light came on again and another message came on. Something like service ES. I didn’t catch the rest of it. No trouble driving and engine light went out after driving awhile. I took it to the chevy dealer and they told me I need a new fuel pump. Car has only 58,249 miles on it. I refused repair and told them there were several recalls, but not for my year. Apparently this is a major problem with the chevy Equinox.
I had an issue starting the vehicle. Once it started the check engine light was lit. I stopped at the nearest autozone for a diagnostic check and the code p00c6 registered for fuel pump. I had the vehicle checked by a mechanic and he explained to me this vehicle has (2) fuel pumps. One in the fuel tank and one on the engine, which is considered a high pressure fuel pump. That is where the failure is and the pump requires special tools to install. It is something they can not do and recommend the vehicle go to the dealer. The vehicle first experienced a serious malfunction on October 12, 2025, while driving on an expressway at 65 mph, and the same issue recurred on March 8, 2026, while driving on a 6-lane, busy highway at 45 mph. The condition involves the vehicle unexpectedly shutting down, rendering the acceleration pedal useless and causing the car to glide to a complete stop in traffic, creating a significant safety concern and rendering the vehicle unreliable for normal use. The vehicle has been at the Chevrolet dealership since March 8 2026 with them unable to replicate the issue. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem before the failure. I called onstar both times it happened immediately after the incident, with neither time resulting in any negative results on the report.
I bought this car 1 1/2 yr ago. . Thursday I was driving down the road no warning lights no sounds, it stalled. . I got it home by a friend towing it, and when I went to try to start it, I then had the check engine light come on, and it threw 3 codes. . P0017, p0089, p228d. I was told that the ecm was replaced but after researching this there has been multiple sites stating others are having same issue. . And some stating that their problem was fixed but it broke down again every time. I just want my car fixed. And the company should have to pay for it. . .
Pulling into traffic car stalled without warning. Went from about 25 mph to a complete stop in approximately in less than 100 feet. Car sputtered with transmission grabbing intermittently as it jerked to a stop. Restarted about several times with similar behavior. (covered under 60,000-mile warranty (actual mileage ~55,000)). Replaced fuel pump driver control module to correct. No accident due to distance to on-coming traffic, but easily could have caused an accident during high traffic conditions.
As I was parked with the car running, my 2024 Equinox suddenly shut down and the check engine light came on. I tried to start it, but it didn’t. Someone tried to jump the battery, thinking it was that, but it wasn’t. I had it towed to the dealership and after 2 days they said the fuel pump power control module needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, gm did not have the part, but the dealership found one in another state and we had to wait several days for it to be mailed to them. After a week, once the part was replaced, they tried to start the car and realized that the original issue fried the battery, so they had to replace that as well. I was told that they had seen several customers with the same issue and wouldn’t be surprised if gm eventually issues a recall. They also said they couldn’t be sure the replacement part wouldn’t have the same issue. I did some research and found that gm has had this issue with 2019 - 2024 vehicles. Some customers reported that they were driving and almost got hit by other vehicles when theirs shut down. My car only had 18000 miles when this occurred. I no longer feel safe driving my car.
A "reduced engine power" warning in a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox lt usually indicates the car has entered "limp mode" to protect the engine, most commonly caused by a dirty/faulty throttle body, loose charge air cooler (cac) tube, or sensor issues (maf/tps). Common codes include p0299 (turbo underboost). When this occurs, I cannot utilize my remote starter. I purchased an innova obd2 code reader, connected it to the vehicle and this code p0299 populated. There has been a few times that the engine light would go off, then I was able to use the remote starter to start the engine.
I was stopped at a traffic light and the car just froze. All the dash lights started flashing, the brakes would not work. The car started moving slowly backing up traffic behind me. I barely made it to a parking lot off the road.
In the middle of rush hour traffic and my car just stopped and wouldn't start. After having it towed to the closest auto repair shop I was advised that the fuel pump module was bad and needed to be replaced. Cheverolet was aware of this defect which is why they recalled it in 2021.
Car stalling.
It keeps throwing an error and my truck goes into reduced engine power mode. It happens out of nowhere. One minute it's fine the next my engine starts to reduce power and I can't go faster then 25 mph. We have already replaced the high pressure fuel rail sensor and the fuel pump. It still is having this issue.
Car would not turn over only grinning noise. Stranded in parking lot. Had to have car towed to dealer. They replaced the fuel pump. The car would not start again 2 days later. I was stranded again. I kept trying and it finally started. It stopped intraffic just died on the way home. Before help came I got it started and made it home. I had it towed to the dealer again. This time they said it is the fuel pump modular. The fuel pump cost me $1300. 00 and norw the charge will be $400. 00. Some 2022 Equinox were recalled but mine was not included. It should have been reca. Led. My Equinox onlyhas 13,000 miles this was a very dangerous situation. Diane tesson.

18,000 miles fuel pump requires replacement.
Vehicle was being parked in garage when it accelerated in reverse, on it's own, very quickly. Fortunately I was able to avoid colliding with any thing behind me by braking in time. I then shifted into drive when vehicle accelerated forward, on it's own again, very quickly. I was not able to brake before vehicle crashed into concrete garage wall, severely damaging front end. Vehicle is still under warranty, and I intend to have dealership haul it in for repairs. I have found other drivers complain on the internet of experiencing the exact same issue as I described above. This model, Chevrolet, Equinox, 2025 is not safe to drive!.
My vehicle has trouble starting and once it starts it dies within a minute or less. Check engine light is on. Code was showing the fuel pump module. Had it towed to the dealership to confirm exactly what the issue is.
September 2025, January 2026 and March 2026 on the freeway heading into the caldecut tunnel and the car jerked check engine light came on and the engine went into reduced engine power. All three times the car had to be towed into the dealership, all three times the fuel pump has been replaced. This is a 2024 Equinox. Anyone living in the bay area knows what the traffic is like, my son could have been killed any of these times due to faulty parts being replaced into a new vehicle. Contacted gm and they refuse to buy it back. I see there is a class action suit for faulty fuel pumps but they seem to keep replacing the same faulty parts.
The vehicle has ongoing and worsening electronic and safety-related issues. The fuel range and fuel economy fluctuate abnormally and frequently, sometimes even while the vehicle is stopped. The infotainment screen has experienced intermittent black areas/partial blackout while driving, affecting system reliability. Recently, the automatic transmission began hesitating during the initial gears, behaving abnormally and requiring me to reduce speed for the vehicle to respond properly. This occurs consistently. These issues have been reported multiple times to the dealership and gm with no resolution, and communication has stopped. I am concerned the vehicle is unsafe to drive and could fail unexpectedly.
Driving down the interstate my 2022 Chevrolet Equinox lt lost all propulsion and shut off. I was able to get pulled over to the side of the road had to have my vehicle towed. Vehicle was repaired after a week at the dealership the problem was the fuel pump module again. This is the 2nd time the fuel pump modulehas went out in 2 years.
The vehicles electrical system failed or faulted while operating. Engine went into a slow mode while operating in traffic. After stopping vehicle would not restart. Very dangerous for an elderly person operating the vehicle.
