Electric Power Assist Steering System problems of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Hhr. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, a loud chime sounded inside of the vehicle. There was an immediate loss of the power steering with the illumination of the warning indicator. The steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the power steering motor was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

Loss of steering assist occurs at any time while driving and once assist is lost, a message is displayed on the driver information center (dic) and a chime sounds. This is the same problem & part involved in the below recall of cobalts & in a canadian recall of Hhrs. It is almost impossible to park when it is not working. Resetting by turning ignition off, then starting engine again will last about 30 seconds. I have almost crashed as it fails while turning entering/exiting parking spaces or garage. The eps (electronic power steering) goes out in my 2009 Chevrolet Hhr every single day, usually after about 5 minutes of driving. It hasn't caused me to have a major accident yet, but it caused me to scrape against a guard rail. The eps motor needs a recall immediately, as this is a well known issue with many Hhr owners!!!.
