8 Battery problem of the 2010 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 12/08/2011

My 2010 Hhr has experienced an ignition issue as well. I cannot get the key to turn back to the off position. I got home from work at midnight, put the car in park and when I tried to shut the car off it would not turn back. The only option I had was to pull the ecm fuse and disconnect the battery (or let it run out of gas). The gear shifter will allow me to shift between all gears but it won't turn off. All the electrical stay on, I have only owned this car for 3 months.

9 Battery problem of the 2010 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 11/20/2011

My 2010 chevy Hhr has experienced an ignition issue. The key, when the car is set to park, will not disengage. It remains on, with the only option being to let the car run out of gas/the battery to drain. The key will turn (as if to start the car), and the gear can be shifted from park to reverse, neutral, etc. , but will not turn off. All systems stay on, potentially burning out electrical components or causing permanent engine damage. The only way to safely address the immediate issue is to disengage the fuses under the steering wheel, which many consumers may be unable to do.

16 Battery problem of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 06/16/2011

I have a 2009 chev Hhr and on Jun. 16, 2011 I pulled into a shopping center and tried to turn off my car and I could "not" turn it off with ignation key,it was locked into the run mode. Lucky for me there was a dealer open and I drove the car to them. The only way the dealer could stop car was to disconnect battery,on a Hhr the battery was in the back of car and it took them quite some time to do this operation. I made the right decision to go to the dealer, but what if I was a little old lady"the outcome might have been a different one". After the problem was fixed, both myself and the service manger at the dealership looked at the defective ignition cylinder and noticed there was a change made in the new cylinder. That leads me to believe that gm knows there is a problem. Gm sent a bulletin(not a recall??)to there dealers stating that "some customers may comment that ignition key is difficult to remove or that the key sticks or binds in the ignition cylinder",that is so wrong the key locks in the run mode and will not turn off car's ignition. After all the problems Toyota has had with there gas petal ect and personal injury's,you would think gm would be on top of this "saety problem" and at least send out a "recall not a service bulletin" to protect it's customers from getting hurt or worse. I would like NHTSA to step up to the plate and confront gm about a recall on this "very unsafe condition" thank you.

17 Battery problem of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 05/21/2011

The keys are stuck in the ignition of the car. We have tried to used the release button under the steering column to no avail. The car remains running. We have to unhook the battery and take out a fuse to get the car shut off. We have two small children and this is our only car. The dealership wanted to charge us to fix this, when clearly it is the fault of Chevrolet. Our keys have been stuck since satuday, may 21, 2011. Today is Monday, may 23, 2011 and the keys are still in the car.

18 Battery problem of the 2009 Chevrolet HHR

This has happened twice, had to have it towed and pay for repair the first time and waiting for tow truck to come get it the second time in less than a year, which I'm sure I'll have to pay for again.

22 Battery problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

Could not remove key from ignition with gear selector in park. This condition was remedied by pushing the gear selector hard into park for a while. Then total failure came when no amount of pushing the gear selector hard into park would allow the key to be removed. I removed the gear shift cover and reached in and found a micro switch that when tripped allowed me to remove key. I called local dealer and Chevrolet factory toll free line and they did not say this was a known defect. I purchased replacement part # 25864102. I personally installed this and it fixed the problem. There is a steel pin in the gear selector plastic shift rod. The plastic is week and allowed the pin to drift approx 1/2" to left which would not allow the key removal micro switch to be tripped as it should be to allow the key to be removed from the ignition lock cylinder. I called Chevrolet back (tel # 1-866-790-5600) and they set up case # 71-781779261. They told me to take defective part to the dealer and they would contact the dealer to analyze the part for reason of failure. I took the part to the dealer service manager12/4/09. I called Chevrolet several weeks later and they said the dealer threw the part away since Chevrolet did not contact them promptly. I had ask for Chevrolet to refund the cost of the part only (no labor) but Chevrolet says they can't help since the part is now gone. . Read more...
