Last Friday I got in my car around 2:30am and it wouldn't start. I thank god I was on a somewhat safe street and with friends. My car wouldn't start for 15-20 minutes. The lights, radio and everything else worked but the car wouldn't start. This was happening on a regular basis a few months ago but then it stopped. I took it to the shop and was informed that I need to replace the ignition switch. I couldn't afford to get it replaced so I just dealt with it. As I stated before, it's been months since the last occurrence then it happened again. I continue to follow the gm recall hoping they will include the Impala because of the ignition switch and other electrical issues. There are times when I am driving and the entire dash board lights up (check engine, check battery) and the all the things that light up on the dashboard when you first start the car. Please address this issue before another fatality occurs.

To fix the security chip and the key shaft because that is what is making the security system mess up. Well now there is a recall on my car with the key, but they will not fix the chip for free and I do not have money to spend on it!.

28 Car Will Not Start problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

I have a 2003 chevy Impala that has starting problems(no start) . Since 2004, there have been at least 4 bcm and pcm modules installed on this car from the gm dealers in which I have all the paperwork for. For the first year, the security light would come on then car wouldn't start for 10-15mins. Then the second year car wouldn't start for 30-45mins. Take to dealer and they couldn't find any problems. So the third year, after missing alot of time from work, it starting doing the same thing and I had it towed to gm. They had it a week and still found no problems. Then the following week the same thing happened and towed again- this time they started throwing parts at it because they didn't have a clue( bill heard in plant city,FL). So after new parts, it ran for about 4-6 months and started doing the same thing. I again took to dealer and no problem found but they decided to put another bcm on it. Then it would work for a few weeks and then the security light, traction light, abs light would come on and next time I try to start it then nothing would happen. So this is happening almost every other day now. This car has left me stranded so many times that I am sick of it and I keep putting money out for towing bills and all the gm dealer can tell me is to bring it in and they would look at it again. I have put out alot of money for bcms every year now and no warranty nor my money back for defective parts. I think gm has done a poor job at evaluating these concerns and do not care about the customer. Something needs to be done about this issue and a recall needs to be on all of the vehicles with the passlock ii system.

32 Car Will Not Start problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

2003 Chevrolet Impala recurring problems with the ignition over the last five years. The consumer stated the vehicle would not start. It would take multiple attempts to get the vehicle started, then at times, the vehicle would stop running suddenly. The only explanation seemed to be the key was hit inadvertently going over a bump, knocking it out of the drive position. In January 2009, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to the repair shop, where the ignition tumbler was bad. A new ignition lock cylinder was installed. February 2009, the engine raced uncontrollably, which required constant braking and placing the vehicle in neutral to stop. In October 2011, the ignition cylinder was replaced again. March 2012, while driving on the highway, there was a major electrical lighting system failure. All of the lights went out. The multi-function switch was replaced. July 2013, the vehicle would start and then stall. September 2014, the consumer received a recall notice, regarding the ignition lock cylinder.

34 Car Will Not Start problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2008

This is an ongoing problem with Chevrolet cars with "passlock" security. The security banner will appear in the dash monitor. Shortly after this the car will not start for 10 to 15 minutes, after being shut off. The electrical system is in perfect working order. During this time the security banner alternates with the battery icon. With the ign switch in the on position. After the 10 to 15 minutes the car will correct itself and start as if nothing happened. My true concern here is that, this is my wife's car and now she tells me she leaves it running at the gas pump. For fear of it not starting. This is where safety comes in. Is it not posted on all gas pumps. To shut off engine? many of these cars are not under warranty. And the dealers from reports I've read seem to throw parts at this problem at the car owners cost. There should be a recall on this matter. Before someone is injured or killed at a gas pump, with their car left running because it may not start. Thank you.
