I just recently bought this vehicle 03/11/20 and it ran great till yesterday when the intake manifold exploded and caught fire to the engine from the fuel lines melted this happened when I was getting a jump. It says there are no recalls pending it is the 3. 8l and it looked original all the parts did can you please help me out.
The incident happened this morning as I was leaving for work. My car was parked in our driveway and had not been driven in 2 days. I got in the vehicle and put the key in the ignition and as soon as I turned it to start there was a loud bang that sounded like a gunshot which I thought was a backfire. The entire plastic intake manifold gasket had exploded into pieces and white smoke began to rise from under the hood. When I opened the hood and the smoke cleared I began to assess the issue, I noticed the manifold gasket cover had been blown completely off and the manifold itself was in pieces. I've done some research and this seems to be a common but uncommon thing among early 2000's gm vehicles.
Recall id 240424 received this from credit karma. Currently our car is having overheating issues. Engine cooling issues, exhaust manifold/header/muffler/tailpipe, oil leaking on to my exhaust I'm afraid to drive it, afraid it may catch fire.
Manufacturer recall numbern150757 NHTSA recall number15v701 engine oil leaks onto my manifold and smokes I have contacted car dealers and they say they will contact me and never do.
In April I was driving g the car noticed that the temperature kept going on up and a smell was coming from u der the hood. I took it to serval mechanic and they all say its my I take manifold and/or head gasket. Also when j was driving g the car before anything the car would cut off while in a gear other than park.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the engine gasket failed and caused engine oil to leak onto the radiatior. The leak damaged the lower and upper intake manifold. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 84,693.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the engine valve cover gasket failed causing the engine oil spill on the manifold and emitted smoke. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. However, the dealer advised that parts were not available perform NHTSA campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact also stated that the repair had exceeded a reasonable time. The failure mileage was not available.
Gasket for intake manifold allows oil to escape from engine. Eventually results in loss of oil pressure, which could lead to loss of engine power and/or vehicle control. Gaskets tend to fail routinely. This has been an issue since the car was new.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Impala. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact experienced a failure with the exhaust manifold leaking fluid onto the ground. The failure mileage was unknown.
There are 3 recalls I have found that possibly are effecting my 2003 Impala but because my specific VIN # doesn't fall under any of these gm is refusing to fix these problems. 1)the body control module needs to be reset. Apparently when it goes out the cruise control disengages. . . . . And my cruise control light is on but won't engage. Plus my mechanic says the body control module also is what is could be causing my heater fan to not work nor my information display to work. But low and behold when the cruise control light goes off they both work 2) there is a recall stating drops of engine oil may leak on exhaust manifold with hard braking and I sometimes smell oil burning after I drive. If it was my actual engine leaking oil I would smell it all the time but I don't it's just after I drive certain places that are very congested and I brake a lot 3) there is a fuel vapor leak from the gas tank which is believed to be causing my check engine light to come on. It throws the code stating I need to possible replace the gas cap (which I have done) and only comes on after I have put gas in the car. I'm alittle concerned and applaud that just because my VIN # doesn't show these recalls but Impalas are having these recalls that gm won't fix these problems.
Intake manifold gasket failure.
Manifold gasket was leaking on my 2003 Chevrolet Impala.
Lower intake manifold gaskets need replaced. I only have 40,000 miles on the car that is a 2003 Impala LS with 3. 8 liter engine. Also, coolant hose seal is leaking coolant.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that there was a persistent burning odor in the vehicle. While pouring oil into the vehicle, the engine compartment erupted into flames. The contact extinguished the fire with water. A few unknown components were damaged; however, the vehicle was still able to be driven. She later received a recall notice, which stated that there could potentially be a fire under the hood due to drops of engine oil deposited into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The current and failure mileages were less than 124,864. Updated 07/14/09 after the recall repair was completed, it was discovered the vehicle had an intake manifold leak which caused the vehicle to overheat. Prior to the recall, the consumer stated she never had a problem with the vehicle overheating. Updated 07/15/09.
My 2003 chevy Impala had lost all the dex cool antifreeze and was overheating w/the engine light coming on. On further investigation, my mechanic says it is the intake manifold and is likely caused by the dex cool coolant as this has been an ongoing problem with that particular coolant clogging up and destroying the intake manifold. I checked out the website for dexcool and you had to be in on the claim by October 2008 to get any type of reimbursement. It is January 09 so I guess I am now stuck with the problem????? I am requesting a total recall of all the vehicle made with dex cool as this is eating through and destroying the cheaply made parts of my car. A search on the internet amazingly brought up so many problems with these poorly made parts it is sickening. I am upset that I received nothing from my dealer regarding this problem or from gm for that matter. Recall this problem and make the automaker responsible. By the way, my car has only 36,000 miles on it. Take that for a car in need of a costly repair with that few of miles! thanks for your help in this matter as it is very frustrating as a consumer.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated the vehicle would intermittently overheat and leak antifreeze. When the failure would occur, the contact would move the vehicle off the roadway and shut off the engine until it cooled down. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where she was informed the intake and manifold gaskets would need to be replaced. The manufacturer advised there were no recalls for her specific vehicle and would not provide any assistance. The failure and current mileages were 157,000.
I recently found that the intake manifold gasket fails on the Chevrolet 3. 8 v6 and that Chevrolet has known of the problem for years and has not corrected the problem. I travel cross country regularly in my 2003 Impala with the 3. 8 engine and am concerned that the engine will fail on the highway and could cause serious accident. Before I knew that gm was aware of this problem I owned a 2000 s-10 pick up and had the gasket replaced for over $700 dollars. I now face the same expense or more to fix the Impala. I feel that gm should have recalled and fixed his problem because hey were aware of the defect in the gasket and plastic coolant part going through the valve cover.
2003 chevy Impala -- intake manifold gasket -- told factory puts on plastic ones that do not last, causing oil leakage and possible damage to the motor if not corrected in time - did not see any recall on this issue -- why???.
Dexcool intake manifold gasket failure in my 2003 cheverolet Impala with only aprox 60,000 miles.
2003 Chevrolet Impala with 45,242 miles had to have an intake manifold gasket replaced due to it leaking antifreeze into the oil. $550.
- the contact took the 2003 Chevrolet Impala for an oil change, while she was at the service location, the technician told her that the intake manifold was leaking. Also, the high beam switch did not working properly. The high beam switch turned on, but did not stay on. The technician stated that the two failures were common. Failure mileage was at 58,524.
During an inspection of my 2003 Impala, mechanic advised of a coolant leak in upper intake manifold (a very common defect for this model / year) and it would cost hundreds of dollars to repair. Needless to say, I did not have the funds to repair it and all cars of this model / year should be recalled for repair.
Noticed it took longer for the car to heat up last winter; this winter started out the same, and I noticed the blower wouldn't work on setting 5 sometimes. Then it quit heating altogether, and the fan would quit but start back up. Now the fan quit blowing altogether. No heat, no defrost, in sub-zero weather, and I'm looking at about $1000 in "repairs" which should be covered as a manufacturer's defect. Thanks gm. I'll be sure to buy another of your vehicles. There is a manifold gasket leak, and the blower motor needs to be replaced.
I have a 2003 Chevrolet Impala which has 46,904 miles on it and it required the following at a cost of $1,150. 00 to fix. I brought it to the dealer for a no heat problem, upon inspecting the vehicle it was found to need new lower intake manifold gaskets, new water pump, flushing and new dexcool antifreeze because of contamination.
My 2003 Impala started with a slow loose of coolant. Every week or so would have to add to the overflow, but never saw a leak. Was over-heating too. Eventually it would have a ticking from the engine area when starting car. It wasn't all the time though. I noticed that there was oil on my driveway and the oil was about a 1/2 quart low. Checked again in couple days and needed to add a quart because light came on. Two days later light came on again. Took it to a chevy dealership who informed me that the gasket needed replacing in the intake manifold because coolant mixed with oil. Also needed coolant flush, and oil change and another gasket. They told me there was lots of sludge in engine and could cause more problems in the future. The car has 68,000 miles on it and it cost me over $1300 to repair. What a shock to the pocket book.
The car starting smelling like anti-freeze and then a big puddle appeared in the front passenger side of the car. The only thing we did was drive from nampa, id to billings, mt, which we have done four times before. It has been determined that the heater core needs to be replaced. The car has 68,000 miles on it right now as of July 28th, 2006. In novemeber of 2003, three months after I bought the car, the heater core was replaced at 31,000 by the lithia dealership in helena, mt. The intake manifold was also replaced in may 2006 because the car was overheating and making a ticking noise.
Had to have upper and lower manifold gasket replaced on 2003 Impala. Sound of water within the dash. TSB on same issue back in 2000 gm is aware of this why aren't owners being helped with faulty gaskets. Tbs #03034 NHTSA #10003430. Why are we in a position to damage an engine or worse and gm has no responsibility in such a crucial componet. Its affected every model year Impala 2000-2003 many tbs's listed each year. They repaired my Impala at full cost to(48k. ) me. I would not purchase a new car with this being a hazard to me and my family. I was just surprised no reaction until someone gets hurt. Also a very expensive repair for a newer car.
My 2003 Chevrolet Impala makes a roaring sound when the road is wet after a rain. I took it back to the dealer, they said it was caused by water being splashed up on the converter, and it could not be fixed.
