The problem started with the security light coming on. Then the temp gauge stopped working. Sporadically would not start. I waited 15 minutes with key in the on position, when security light went off, turn off and back on. Most times this would work. Headlights would flicker on and off. Driver side window stopped working. One day my dashboard, and door controls just went hay wire. Car will not turn over at all now. Key easily slides out of the on position. Have already had car looked at several times with no success. When researching this issue online, it seems that many other people are having this very similar issue. At this point it is a safety concern for me and my family.
I've heard a lot about the recalls regarding several chevy vehicles in regards to the ignition and I was wondering why Impalas are not on the list. You can look at numerous web forms with people having trouble starting their Impala's like my self. You can also read that there is really no explanation or fix to the problem. The problem in general is a good majority of the time older chevy Impala's have a hard time starting or just won't start for a good 15 minutes. From the many Impala owners I talk to a lot of them are wondering if this was the start of the issue with the recalled chevy vehicles. I have yet to experience any other described issue related to the recall but again I am worried if this is a sign of the issues or slightly related.
I noticed a strange smell like melting plastic coming from my passenger side dashboard under the glove compartment. Took it straight to the dealer. They discovered my back window defrost shorted out the fuse box on the passenger side. Completely melted it and ruined the box. If I had waited any longer it probably would have started a fire.
Vehicle shut off while driving , this has occurred twice, able to direct vehicle to side of the road safely. At time had multiple keys and items hanging from keychain. Now drive with just key alone in ignition has not occurred since.
The indicators in the front panel next to the steering wheel work inconsistently. The speedometer, the odometer, gas gauge, turn signals, and emergency blinker signal work sporadically. The right turn signal doesn't work at all. So it is dangerous to try to turn left when cars are advancing towards me or to turn right when cars are driving behind me. The yellow warning light for low gas is the only consistent working signal. This condition has existed for two years.
While driving on the interstate with the cruise set to 65 mph, the needle on the speedometer started to slowly show a decrease in speed eventhough the actual speed of the car did not change. Over the next 50 miles the speedometer continued to decrease until it was below 0 although the cars speed stayed a 65mph. Since then similar problems appeared with the rpm gauge where the needle shows it redlining even though the car is idling.
Noticed a smell and started seeing smoke coming out of the glove compartment. Turned off car and checked to find out the blower motor, resister and harness melted.
This has happened a few times now with both the speedometer and temperature gauge. I start the car and start driving and happen to look down and either the speedometer or the temperature gauge will be giving a false high reading. Seeing as the car had just started it could not possibly be overheating. I find if I shut the car off and cycle the key from off to on without starting engine I can get it to drop back to where it should be. I hear this is a very common problem and it will fail eventually. I drive highways mostly and not knowing my correct speed when trying to enter and merge with traffic is very dangerous.
Speedometer stopped working properly. Would register zero or off the scale. Never correct. With so many complaints you would think that something would be done as this is a necessary instrument but obviously gm doesn't care and ntsb is too busy until someone is killed.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the contact noticed a burning odor emitting from the engine compartment. In addition, the gauges gave incorrect readings as the vehicle over heated. The abs, check engine and multiple warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the water pump and multiple parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v201000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The failure mileage was 85,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Oo.
It started with the tachometer not reading right, then it started working, then stopped, now the speedometer and tachometer is not working right, if I turn off the car or be at a non-moving state it will read anywhere from 10-20mph, if I am driving it will read or not at all, nothing is accurate. . . Good grief my car has under 41000 miles on it. It seems like to me after looking at the extensive complaints on this problem with the Impalas, Chevrolet would issue a recall and fix this ridiculous issue. It certainly makes me not want to buy another Chevrolet again! I would think they would want to have more of their cars on the road than foreign and realize the american people are more informed and do research before buying large purchases such as a car, and we base our decisions on what we hear and read on companies customer satisfaction, and most importantly the safety issues!.
My Impala is having traction control and abs issues making it harder to feel safe on the road. Abs starts working for no reason when stopping lightly and the tracrion control also starts working when taking off in normal conditions making the car hesitant.
My 2005 chevy Impala intermittently fails to start. It will restart after waiting about 15-20 minutes. This is a similar problem (potential safety issue) I had with a previously owned 2000 Impala, and other frustrated Impala owners express online. Certified technicians are unable to pin point the cause and gm customer service was not helpful when contacted on the matter.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated after adding gasoline to the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading. The speed odometer remained at zero regardless upon the speed the vehicle was driven. In addition, the temperature gauge would fluctuate. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the sunroof could not be opened. Immediately after trying to open the sunroof the driver saw smoke coming from under the headliner of the vehicle. The contact then tried to open all the windows however they were also inoperable. The contact stopped the vehicle and shut off the engine. The smoke ceased once the vehicle was shut off. The contact called the dealer in regard to the failure and a representative advised that if he did not see any flames, then they were not able to provide any assistance. The vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired. The manufacturer was later contacted but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were approximately 68,000. Kmj.
First, I had to replace the rack and pinion steering. Could have been the steering knuckle, don't know. Then, I was driving about dusk and the low beams went dark. The car has an automatic switch that moves the headlights from daytime mode to nighttime. Local mechanic called the gm dealer and spoke with a gm mechanic. The gm mechanic told him the turnstalk assembly was defective and that they frequently replaced them on Impalas. I paid for both repairs out of pocket. Then, the heater would only work on the passenger side; heater blend door on driver's side was defective. Recently, I had the heater blend door repaired at my expense. Then, I had the transmission rebuilt at my expense. Gm would not assist with any of these repairs even though service bulletins existed on all of these issues. Looking at online discussion boards for this car I found all of these issues with numerous owners. The transmission would slip when going from first to second gear and then began bumping in other owners. What a lemon this car has become.
Speedometer wasn't registering any speed at all when car was movin approximately 50 mph. Next day, speedometer was reading approximately 30mph faster than probably traveling (90-100mph) on city streets. Dealer estimates about $275 for parts, and $190 for labor to fix instrumentation panel.
Speedometer was first off by 5 miles then worked, few months later you would be driving 30 and it would say 60 then it would work fine at random last time it actually spun around and the pointer was all the way down to the gear information. After that the heat gage would read at max temp but the temperature was fine and then it to stopped working. Replaced the cluster for around $350.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the instrument panel cluster was inoperable and would fail mostly when driving during evening hours. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who performed a diagnostic test but to no avail. The dealer also could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer for another diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 59,600.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala LS. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the speedometer fluctuated continuously. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.
Speedometer and temperature on the instrument cluster read eradicate at all speeds. When I went to a mechanic he said he was changing 3 to 5 of these a week. Just think hundreds of thousands or maybe millions of vehicles on the road with no clue as to how fast they are going. It's not just this make and model gm has a lot of them. There are many businesses that are rebuilding these instrument clusters because of the failures. Check it out on the internet. When is gm going to be made to correct there faulty products?.
2005 Chevrolet Impala consumer seeking reimbursement for out of pocket expenses prior to the recall being issued the consumer stated the vehicle would stall, while making turns. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop, where it was determined, the ignition lock cylinder needed to be replaced.
The temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and speedometer have gone completely haywire! the temperature gauge goes to hot and buzzes but my car is no where near hot. I don't know if my tank is full or empty because the gauge is always on the bottom. I don't know how fast I'm going because my speedometer is stuck on 120. The dealership knows that this is a common problem but they insist on charging $500 or more to fix it. . . Just own up and do the recall!!.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 60 mph, the speedometer reading would not decrease when decelerating. The speedometer reading fluctuated erratically. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.
2005 chevy Impala. First had an electrical problem with the abs brake system. Traction control feature would engage whenever the brake was applied. This occurred at 30,000 miles. Dealer warranted this. At about 80,000 miles the display panel indicated erroneous problems, ie. Truck open when not. The lights would flash off and on indicating all kinds of issues when none existed. Also the speedometer began to work erratically. The speedometer would indicate speeds of 30-60 mph higher than actual driving speed. Turning the car off/on would gradually lower and reset the speedometer. This occurs randomly with no real pattern. Seems to be electrical in nature. Also could present a safety issue.
The speedometer has gone haywire. You cannot tell how fast you are going. The rpm gauge is going haywire as well. It jumps all over the place. Took the car to the dealership but wouldnt you know it the warranty expired with no written notice from warranty company. The clusters are the root of all the problems and Chevrolet needs to recall to repair the issues described. Another alarming problem with the 2005 chevy Impala I own is what is called the passlock protection. It also does not work at times and I had to find out ways to bypass the passlock on youtube. This could turn into a dangerous situation if you need to start you car in an emergency and you cant because the passlock will not let you turn on the car. Sometimes you have to wait ten minutes with the key in a certain position. That is totally not acceptable.
Car has just rolled over to a little over 165,,000 miles and when we bought it at the time we didnt think anything of it and then turns out a year after we bought the car it started smelling like gas big time but we didnt know where it was coming from then when I went to put the car in park the check engine light came on so im like thinking now what and so we take it to a garage and they say OH your entire exhaust system is rusted out and that theres a dollar size hole near the front of the exhaust but we didnt get it fixed becuz we couldnt at the time so they just told me to drive it as is and I have been but ive been noticing that it sounds louder and louder almost like how a car does not have an exhaust system and I really dont feel safe becuz its loud and it smells like gas on the inside and im afraid of it catching on fire one of these days and as for the resistor blower module for the a/c and heater we already had to replace that three times becuz it kept going out and I really dont want to have the car catch on fire becuz the blower motor resistor module isnt working properly and I dont have any money to keep fixing things on my car.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated the speedometer and tachometer would display improper readings. The failure was frequent, recurring more than three times a week. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 156,000 and the current mileage was approximately 156,000.
2005 chevy Impala with a sticking speedometer. Stays at 85 when parked, and is very erratic. Have read many, many others with same problem and dealerships unwilling to fix this safety issue without fully charging for repair. Cannot afford car payment and over expense for shop repair that should be covered by dealership/manufacturer defect.
Car turns off while driving, also looks like its not getting gas, cluster also went bad and the check engine light comes on also bat, brake flu ,it blinks fast and turns off high danger when it turns off while driving it happened 3 times have no control what should I do.
Speedometer not working properly. Sporadically changes to 100mph+ while driving any speed. Safety issue. Gm customer assistance gave a big run-around. I had them and a dealership service manager on the phone together. Gm cust. Asst. Said that they would have to know the cause of the problem before they would say if they would cover repairs. Service manager said that there are only two possible problems. Cust asst still would not say if they would repair. This is a serious safety issue. I guess someone will have to plow through some elementary school kids sincetheyi don't know how fast they are going in a school zone before they issue a recall.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated the speedometer would not register what speed he was driving and the gauge would sporadically fluctuate from 100 mph to zero. The manufacturer was contacted and advised him to have the vehicle diagnosed before they would be able to determine if they could assist with repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 72,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the odometer and tachometer would not register an accurate reading which caused difficulty in determining what speed he was driving. In addition, the low fuel level alarm failed. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact was driving 60 mph when the contact noticed that the speedometer was providing an inaccurate reading of 90 mph. Within seconds, the speedometer was reading 0 mph. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and the manufacturer would not assist with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 43,000.
All three of the guages in my 05 Impala have malfunctioned. I have no way of knowing how much fuel is in the car, the temp of the engine, and at times the speed of the car. My research suggests a faulty stepper motor used by gm. While I can live with the fuel guage malfunction and the temperature guage malfunction, the speedometer malfunctioning presents a safety issue. When it acts up the guage will indicate a speed that is obviously errant, leaving me guessing as to my actual speed.
