The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving, an abnormal clicking noise was heard when turning the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column bearings were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also indicated that the air bag sensor light was illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the air bag coil spring was defective. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defects. The failure mileage was 97,000.
The contact owns 2005 Chevrolet Impala LS. The contact was driving 30 mph when there was an abnormal explosion heard throughout the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the steering column would need to be replaced. The steering knuckle was replaced at the contacts expense. The manufacturer was contacted but would not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 37,517.
There was a loud clunking noise whenever I made a hard turn in my car - both left and right, as well as a feeling that the steering column was loose. Also, the right front tire would move by touch. I took it to the dealership and was told that the steering column would need to be replaced and I would have to have new tie rods because they were loose. I was also told by the dealer that this was a common problem with the Impala. Why has a recall not be instituted if the dealer is repairing more than one instance of this problem per week?.
