The contact stated that while driving 10-15 mph and making a left turn there was an abnormal popping noise and the steering wheel went in a circle and the car veered of the road . There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's resident. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the steering and engine detached from the vehicle. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 125,015. Ap.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that when the steering wheel was turned to left or to the right side, there was an abnormal noise coming from the steering wheel. On another occasion, the contact stated that when the ignition key was turned to the on position, a burning odor emitted inside the vehicle intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and a grease kit was installed on the I-shaft. After 14,000 miles the failure resurfaced. The vehicle would be diagnosed by the dealer in December of 2009. The current mileage was 29,268. The failure mileage was approximately 14,600. Updated 4/7/2010 the dealer replaced the intermediate shaft. Updated 05/20/10.
Clunking noise coming from steering shaft. Gm dealer told me that thee have been numerous problems with steering shafts on this vehicle but no recall. Will cost 250. 00 to fix.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that he heard a loud noise coming from the steering wheel when driving in reverse. He took the vehicle to the dealer on four occasions and repair work was performed. However, they were unable to duplicate the failure and the noise returned. The contact had all repair orders for each time the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The contact stated that the steering gear was replaced. The current mileage is 30,100, and failure mileage was 29,995.
Clunking/banging noise felt in steering wheel, gas and brake pedals when turning right or left and sometimes when going straight on a rough surface. Taken to dealer three times for repair. The first and second time lube kit was replaced on steering shaft. The third time, owner was told that the whole steering shaft would need to be replaced and that the part was being redesigned by gm and would not be available for six months or more. Owner was told that car was safe to drive in the meanwhile. Owner was told that there was a bulletin regarding this issue. Owner filed a complaint with gm.
