When I turn the ignition key and start my car engine, I then shift the automatic transmission into “drive”, but there is no forward acceleration power, and I have no idea why this is.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2023

The gas petal sensor is reading a code p2138 (accelerator petal position sensors 1-2 not plausible). My father has changed the petal not once but twice and erased the code but it keeps coming back. Also getting a p0172 code as well. A cheverolet dealership has been called and the representative rushed me off phone saying there was not recall for the car. Car was taken to an autozone and the codes were still coming up. Engine warning light goes off and on every 3 to 4 days after being cleared, then will get a reduced engine power message will appear. Messages warning lights and symptoms started 3 months ago.

Car shuts off while in traffic and it says engine power reduced service traction control.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

At a complete stop, press the gas to go and the car will not go. Kind of like its struggling to catch gear and then all of a sudden it with catch jerk hard. That's an issue for a few reasons. If you have to pull out for somewhere that traffic doesn't stop or yield, and the car is barley rolling trying to catch gear, there's the risk of getting hit. When the gear catches, and the jerk happened it's not a small jerk, I feel it's a safety hassard to small children. When my son was 4 months old it started and it jerked him pretty hard. My mother in law is the original owner and had it checked several times with no resolution.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2018

When starting from a stop, the car will sometimes initially move forward slowly and then suddenly launch forward about 3-5 seconds after applying the accelerator. It is also giving a traction lost indicator when I make sharp turns from a stop and it sounds as if there is slipping from the front end. Remedy for this is to back off the sharp turn slightly and once the car is rolling turn the wheel more sharply.

11 Power Train problem

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2016

I started see a warning light on in my car that read "engine power is reduced, service traction control" so I sent gm an email regarding this and maybe a month or so later I received a notice that said the gas throttle sensor will cause this to appear when it is bad. They advised if I felt this was the problem I could take it to a gm dealer and have it check, but if it wasn't they would not cover it and I would be responsible for the cost of the diagnostics test. I took my car and took my car , along with the notice to sunrise pontiac on 12/31/15. I was told that I needed a thermostat a gas pressure sensor. The cost to repair these items would run me almost $900 and I could not afford that t this time. I asked the technician, which could I get away with not fixing right now and he said I needed to go ahead and replace the thermostat to get the check engine light off. I had that work done and the light still was on, as well as, the warning lights. So I contacted gm again and advised them of the situation. They paid for me to go to serra Chevrolet to get another diagnostic done. This time I was told I needed an app sensor, gas pressure sensor, thermostat (which had already been replaced), and a temperature sensor, all of which would run me $1300. I told them I could not afford that and left. I contacted gm once again and explained what was told to me and asked why the sensors would not be covered when they were apart of the gas throttle body? now I'm getting a warning that says "starting disabled service throttle " and my car is literally cutting off while I'm driving. I feel like this is a matter that gm should be willing to repair for their consumers to prevent accident or death. I 've read on google that several Impala owners are experiencing the same thing. Also, while I'm driving my gear control is popping out. This is my only means of transportation.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2015

Traction control needs service message displayed, then throttle disabled message displayed shutting the engine off going down the road. So therefor no power steering, brakes etc . Once pulled onto shoulder car would not crank. Had to wait five minutes until the gauges flickered and then car was able to be restarted. This is highly dangerous if not where to pull off or being followed closely. Not to mention not power steering assist or brake assist. This could very easily cause a crash and there for should be a recall issued before people are injured or killed by this!.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2015

I was driving down the street and out of nowhere the engine light came on and said engine reduced power. The car seemed to slow down and not have power. If I came to a stop and began to drive again, the car barely accelerated and the transmission jerked every single time it shifted. I had every car going around me down the busy street, because the car would barely go. I was worried I wouldn't even make it home and that the transmission was going to have serious problems along with the engine as it jerked roughly with every gear change. This is something that needs to be recalled immediately! it couldn't have happened at a worse time, as I just purchased this car a few weeks ago, have my first child on the way, and just got a house.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2014

On this day I was driving normal speed, climate and roadway was dry and free of debris. The traction control light came on and the car began to shift hard when accelerating after a stop. Today, January 5, 2015 while operating under normal speed and dry climate the check engine light came on along with traction control, which has remained on since the initial incident. The car began jerking and the engine shut off while traveling at a rate of 40mph. I was almost hit by the vehicle behind me, however thankfully managed to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. My children were in the car with me. I shut the car off in hopes that the lights would reset, but they did not. I have contacted gm and in my opinion they couldn't care less about this issue. I have researched several online forums and see that this appears to be an issue with many Impala owners. A few even stated they had wrecked their vehicles due to the engine shutting down while experiencing the exact same issues. Why has this issue not been addressed? I see reports dating back to 2010. The same danger that warranted an ignition switch recall is happening in these cases as well, these cars are shutting off while being driven.

29 Power Train problem

When accelerating after a stop, transmission feels like it's slipping, the car does not want to move. After applying enough gas, the car will "brake loose" and lunge forward. This can definitely cause an accident.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

Was driving on busy one lane road, reduced speed, check traction control, check engine light came on and car slowed down to 45 and would not go any faster, was able to pull off of road and shut car off started about 5 minutes later no indication of the problem. Two days later the problem came back. Went to internet to check problem seems like there have been 100,000 s of these problems many resulting in accidents. It does not show that there has been a recall. This is very serious if I would have been on a freeway with trucks traveling at high speed I could have been killed. What has the vehicle safety board done to protect owners of faulty vehicles?.

31 Power Train problem

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

While accelerating the car lost the ability to continue accelerating all at once which caused a jerking motion of the car causing me(the driver) to be thrown forward hitting my head on the steering wheel. It all happened very fast and the reduced engine power and traction control message appeared on the dash board and is still on the dash board. As I said it all happened very fast but I was able to brace myself slightly which is the only reason I was not seriously injured. This issue which now after speaking to my car mechanic and me seeing many other people having the same issue after doing some research online is a death sentence to someone. Someone is going to die from the car losing the ability to accelerate all at once along with a jerking motion that makes you want to have a foot on the gas and a foot on the brake to be able to stop should the car take off on it own.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

Difficulty shifting into gear from park with vehicle started or off when depressing brake. Shift lever was locked and would not move. On 3/16/2014 it completely locked in park position. I called road service and they removed part of console cover and found wire had broken in wire harness (black) which controls release of gear shift while depressing brake pedal. They showed me how to depress release button for parking gear. I had to do this for 3 days manually till I could get a electrical shop repair the broken wire subsequent wire harness as they told me it was not feasible to replace just the black wire to the park gear release. It cost me $465. 00 for repairs. I checked on line and found this has been a quite a problem with 2008 chevy Impala's and is happened quite frequently. My question is why gm has not issued a bulletin due to this problem to correct it. To be stranded and in the dark is quite a frightening situation.
