This has been happening for several years, and happened again yesterday. . . . . Pulled out onto 4 lane divided highway and traction control light came on, dash said "engine power reduced", but did not seem to be significantly low on power. Drove about 5 miles down the road, then car suddenly died. Was able to pull over to side of the road (with three small children in the vehicle), tried to restart the car but display said "starting disabled, service throttle". Waited about 5 minutes and car restarted. Was able to drive home, no reduced power but check engine light remained on. I have seen many comments online from others who own similar gm vehicles that have had similar issues. We have also had similar issues with our 2011 suburban, although no stalling. There should be an immediate recall for all 2008 - 2011 gm vehicles to repair this issue, most likely accelerator pedal position sensor.
While driving on roads and interstates, I frequently receive a dash notification "engine power reduced" and my service traction control and check engine light comes on. When this happens, my vehicle loses speed and cannot accelerate above 40mph - dangerous, especially on an interstate. The notification lights and symptoms occasionally go away after turning the engine off and on, only to come back later. I cannot find and answer to this problem.
I started my car and the check engine light and service traction control lights both came on. I got on the highway and tried to accelerate to merge into the lane and my car would not accelerate and the steering wheel locked. Luckily I was able to get into the emergency lane before my car shut off, but I was very close to being blasted by an oncoming semi truck. This could've been fatal to me if I had not gotten over in time.
Engine suddenly died while I was driving. I pulled over to the side of the road and it almost caused an accident because power steering went out. I was able to start the engine back up no problem. I had a check engine light on because of the oil pressure sensor. I had just replaced it the day before. I suspect it had something to do with that, but im not sure. If I was on the highway im pretty sure I would have gotten in an accident. This isnt the first time this car has almost caused an accident because of faulty car parts, this car is dangerous.
While the vehicle was in motion on dry pavement, the traction control light came on, followed by the check engine light then the car stalled and had to be be eased off the highway. Tried to restart the vehicle several times. After it sat for a couple of minutes tried one more time and the car restarted and drove home perfectly. Researched the issue online, and there are entire forums in edmunds dedicated to this very problem. Definitely a safety issue with this vehicle.
My traction light comes on . With my check engine light then my power is redued light comes on at same time car has no power cant hardly get it to move cant accelerate to get out of way of cars. Light is coming and going stay on for a while go off then come back in day or so.
For the last two days, I have driven my vehicle. Every time I would drive over 40 mph, the engine would lock up. The vehicle would jerk and shake back and forth. The car would do this every time I went over 40 mph, no matter if I was driving on a highway or road or coming to a stop at a red traffic light. Whenever this happened, the check engine light and the traction control light would stay on. This problem started weeks after I had an auto accident.
For the last two days, I have driven my vehicle. Every time I would drive over 40 mph, the engine would lock up. The vehicle would jerk back and forth. The car would do this every time I would try and drive over 40 mph, no matter the roadway or stop at an intersection. Whenever this happened, the check engine light would stay on. A month before this problem started, my father had been driving the car and had an auto accident.
My car's engine power was severely reduced suddenly when I was driving on interstate highway 275 north in tampa, FL. A message showed on the dash: " reduced engine power, service traction control" and the check engine light was on. This happened today around 7 pm on oct 30, 2016. My car is a chevy Impala 2009. I searched online and found thousands of messages about the same error message of reduced engine power on many models of gm cars including Impala, malibu, trailblazer, silverado. This worries me very much as so many same error messages and engine problems happened on so many gm cars. My research shows that gm has done nothing to resolve this problem yet. So this irresponsibility of gm on this specific issue put the lives of hundreds of thousands of drivers in danger. I hope NHTSA looks into this problem and pressure gm to issue a recall if possible to take care of this serious problem. Thank you!.
Car is currently at 134k miles and just gave me a "reduced power engine", "check traction control", and a check engine light. I googled around and came across a lot of chevy Impalas around the same year (07-10) are having the same problem. It seems to be something with the "accelerator pedal positioner pedal sensor. Also reading into it, it claims that this problem can cause the car to suddenly stop from 60mph all the way down to 20 or zero. This is extremely dangerous and needs to be looked into before someone is hurt or killed.
Reduced engine power appeared followed by check traction control. Then symbol for check traction control and engine completely in passing lane on interstate 80. Check engine symbol also lit, car completely died and would not restart. Approx 15 min later, it did start with check engine symbol lighted.
While driving the check engine light and traction control light comes on and reduce engine power reads across the screen. Car slows to 45 miles an hour and turns off. I have had the throttle replaced and the throttle body replaced. The problem still on going. . . . ?.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact had not experienced a failure with the vehicle until it was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). Shortly after the dealer's repair, the check engine warning light randomly illuminated and the vent controls failed to properly work. In addition, the key fob failed to lock and unlock at different points in time. The contact notified the dealer and they were unable to provide a solution for the various electrical failures. In addition, the brakes were slow to respond and the dealer replaced the rotors, which did not prevent the failure. The contact was informed that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. The repairs for the brake system did not prevent the failure. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v507000 (air bags, electrical system). The parts were not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
I was driving on the highway and all of the sudden check engine light and traction control light come on. Warnings service traction control and reduced engine power are displayed and all but shuts my car off in the middle of the highway causing cars to slam on their brakes and swerve barely missing me. I get over to the side of the road and turn the car off. Then turn the car back on same messages and won't go no where. Do the same thing again only waiting longer and no messages but check engine light still on. I drive home. Next day no warnings or lights. Couple weeks go by does the whole warnings and lights and slows car down again but doesn't completely shut it down. I was in regular street traffic this time about 35mph. And now it's more frequent sometimes a couple times a day to once every day or two. This needs to be looked at. I'm reading about this problem on a lot of Impalas causing major problems and wrecks.
Driving on interstate vehicle suddenly lost all power and would not accelerate & quickly decelerated with any prior warning. 18 wheeler almost rear ended me. Instrument panel displayed “engine power reduced”, “service traction control,” “service stabilitrak”, and “check engine light. ” finally exited interstate safely and shut down engine thinking it was going to blow up and after 2-3 tries to restart messages disappeared and vehicle seemed to be ok. Took vehicle to mechanic & found codes evidencing the loss of communication between the tac and or the app units causing vehicle to go into limp mode but could not get the condition to reoccur. Mechanic had to remove codes to permit to duplicate problem, could not duplicate and told me to wait until reoccurred. While looking for repair shop was scared it would happen again received letter from gm stating if the above condition had occurred they would fix. Called gm dealer mentioned letter they refused to repair unless the messages were present on panel, refused to look at the vehicle. Called gm customer service referencing letter, explained gm dealer refused to repair. Was told by angela issue was safety related problem but gm would not admit to safety issue. Gm agreed to pay for one hour of diagnostic time to determine if vehicle qualified for repair, dealer was unable to duplicate problem, refused to repair. Called gm and was told no repair would be made even though the problem had occurred as stated in the letter and to wait until situation occured again then not to start engine and tow to gm dealer. Was told gm would not pay for tow or inconvenience and if they could see codes they might repair problem. This is definitely a safety issue since when this occurs the vehicle loses all power and basically shuts down and will not accelerate beyond 5 mph if at all. Leo nelson 937-554-9778 noslenlsn@gmail. I own a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. I was driving on the highway at 65 mph when the check engine light, traction control light and engine power reduced light came on. A few minutes later, in heavy traffic it said engine shutting down and there was a short countdown displayed before the engine died completely. This is very dangerous and I am lucky to have been able to get over to the shoulder without getting hit.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that the check engine light, the service traction control and the check throttle assembly warning lights illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the throttle body, the traction control modules were replaced and reprogrammed but the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 142,000.
I cranked my 2009 Chevrolet Impala leaving a nearby gas station and the message service traction control flashed, then engine power reduced, and the check engine light came on. My car drove sluggish home at a very slow speed. Luckily I was only about 5 minutes from home. The next morning no message was displayed and the check engine light went off. I took it to advance auto parts and the code p2127 was displayed twice - throttle pedal position sensor. I see most of these complaints are similar to mine I just happen not to be on the highway. Is gm investigating this because this is serious with multiple occurrences?.
I am complaining about an incident that happened to me on Saturday, June 14th 2014. I was driving about 70 mph (I have a 2009 Chevrolet Impala) when my check engine light came on. Not long after that did I notice that my engine had shut off and my power steering had went out. Come to find out today (6/17/2014), gm had an ignition recall. Since the same exact description happened to my vehicle I thought for sure that it was under the recall. I tried to call my local dealer to get it resolved, and shockingly my car did not have a recall under it. I tried to call gm directly and tell them what happened to me, but they said that they could not help me being that my car was not under the recall. My concern is that gm is not taking full responsibility for all of these incidents. Its just not right, its not good business on their behalf, and its not ethical. If any of my driving conditions had been different, I could have been involved in a lethal accident. Not only does it pose a threat to myself, but if I had other passengers in my vehicle and also other drivers on the road. Something has to be done about this and gm needs to take full responsibility for the faults that they produced.
One day before I was to take a vacation from missouri to texas, my check engine light came on. My mechanic told me the code had something to do with a fuel canister, but it shouldn't pose a problem. As I was driving 75 mph on the highway inside the texas state line, after 7 hours of driving, mostly in rain all day, the car started doing a jerking type action & then my traction control light came on, w/a warning msg saying, "service traction control; engine power reduced. " going 75 mph I lost all control! no lights, no a/c (which is a separate, loud, clicking issue I could address), no power steering, no power brakes! I had all I could do to just point my car to the side of the road & coast to a stop, in the middle of nowhere w/out a service station in sight! I tried 3x to restart the vehicle to no avail. As I sat there in bewilderment & fright of what just happened, I contemplated what to do. After about 5 minutes, I decided to try & start it 1 more time. This time, it started up. However, the check engine light & the service airbag light (again, another issue I've had with the vehicle since the day I purchased it) were still lit up but the traction control light & the warning messages had gone off. I continued to my destination & the following day (Saturday) I took the vehicle to the local gm dealership where they proceeded to do a diagnostic test &, of course, "could not replicate the problem," therefore they could not "find anything wrong. " they gladly depleted my vacation expenses of $100 & sent me on my way with a reassurance that "if it happens again while you're here, come back by & we will test it again but we won't charge you for it. " how nice of them. :{ gm seems to enjoy doing that. And the NHTSA doesn't seem to want to take the initiative to investigate this prevalent problem w/these cars. If something bad happens, I'll sue the pants off of them.
I started my car and the check engine light and the service traction control lights both came on. My back tires then began to spin when driving and the car made a scary noise.
Three times now this has happened. The first time I was driving down a main street at about 35 miles per hour and all of a sudden my service traction control light came on and the wording was displayed, as well as my check engine light came on and the wording "engine power reduced" was displayed. About a month later, I was leaving a parking lot when the same thing happened and then again four days later I was merging onto a highway and the same thing happened. When I try to accelerate, it sounds like something is going to fall out of the bottom of my car. After reading the other complaints, I don't understand why this isn' being taken care of by the company and left up to the car owner to deal with. It is very unsafe and I can't afford to get a different car nor pay for expensive repairs that are beyond my control or fault.
I recently purchased a Chevrolet Impala ltz 2009 model a few months ago and it has 82,000 on it. While driving on the highway my check engine light came on. It said that I had a bad accelerator sensor. Followed by a flashing light that said my car had reduced engine speed. I have looked up many times about this issue with my car and many other people have had problems with a bad gas pedal. Gm knows and I'm confused as to why they never asked for a recall on this.
While merging onto a two lane highway my Impala suddenly lost power and I received a "low engine power" warning and then " service traction control" the check engine light comes on and the car runs roughly at reduced power - you need to pull over and shut the car off until you can start it again. This is a very dangerous issue that gm refuses to acknowledge. In this instance I had my daughter in the car - I also lost the power brakes. I have been to two Chevrolet dealers and a Buick dealer because this has happened several times over the past year and a half. They replaced my throttle body, oil sensor, battery and something else and charged me over $2000 for the three visits and I am still experiencing the issue. I have also been to a local repair shop and had the wiring harness changed and had several diagnostics done. After all this the problem still exists. I normally don't write letters but, this is a very dangerous situation and many others are experiencing the same thing based on the message boards I have read. My concern is that gm refused to help or issue a recall. My fear is that someone gets seriously hurt or killed before gm answers for this. This is not good for gm. My hope is that someone finally addresses this issue before someone is killed. In my last communication with gm - I was told to take my car to a dealer for a diagnostic at my own expense. So, basically I am on my own and they offered to do nothing. Just not right!.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while traveling 65 mph, the traction control and check engine warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The failure and current mileage was 62,000. Updated 06/17/13.
Turned car on and the check engine light came on. Took to mechanic who said it was the air injection seloniod valve and that it is such a common part replacement on these models that they keep the exact part in stock! they want over $400 to repair.
Driving on freeway, check engine light come pn. . . Few miles on freeway car jerk. . . Message on dash engine power loss then throttle body disabled the engine shuts off while im driving 60 mph. . . 18 wheeler blind me so I swerve off freeway due to steering wheel hard to turn. . . I sit on side of freeway f 10 minutes. . . Turn key and no sound. Car will not start. . . Call friend for help. After 30 minutes car starts I could have been killed with car shutting down on freeway. . . Gm fix issues. Or pay big later. . Death trap.
I have a 2009 chevy Impala lt & was driving aproximately 50mph down the road when all of a sudden the "service traction control message came on, the check engine light came on & engine power will be reduced message came on". The cars speed dropped down to about 40mph & would hardly go. I didn't know what was going on. It really scared me because I thought my car was going to cut off. I did get to work safely but I am terrified to drive this car. I searched message boards on the internet & came across 297 messages from other people who own gm vehicles that this has happened to. A couple of people said their cars actually cut off on them while going down the highway at a high rate of speed. One was involved in an accident. The problem from what I have read has something to do with the accelerator pedal position sensor or throttle body. From what I have read gm knows about this problem but has not done a recall on this. A couple of people posted that their local chevy dealership covered the repair even though their cars were no longer under warranty. I called my local chevy dealership and they told me that they couldn't do anything about it. They said that I would have to pay for repairs myself. To me, this is unacceptable. I could have a wreck & get killed or kill someone else. I don't understand why a company would clearly know about a problem with their vehicles and do nothing about it. I think that gm should cover the repairs to my vehicle and to any others that are having this problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 cherolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would suddenly loose power and slow down before stalling and shutting off. The contact indicated that when the failure occurs the check engine light would illuminate. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000. Jft.
While traveling on the expressway a check traction system warning appeared along with reduced engine power. After approx. 10 miles the engine shut down and I was forced to pull off to the side of the road. I shut the engine off and attempted to restart and the starter would not engage. After waiting approx. 3 minutes I was able to start the car and warning system was gone however the check engine light remained.
As I was driving to golf on Monday September 24th, on interstate I-80 heading west, my 2009 chevy Impala onboard computer stated the following, service traction control, reduced power, starter disabled and the check engine light all at roughly the same time. My car completely died and I had no power steering. Luckily I was able to coast out of harms way and get to the side of the road. I checked some wires under the hood and didn't find anything loose. When I attempted to start the car back-up, the onboard computer flashed, starter disabled. I sat with the car for about 15 minutes and tried once more. This time it started and ran normal, but the check engine like was on(still is). How scary is this really? enough to make me hate driving this car anywhere. Not to mention I'm a single dad of 4, who needs to get to work, school and many other things.
Purchased vehicle on 9/6/2012 used with 27,479 miles. On 9/19/2012 with 27,960 miles, I was accelerating on an onramp getting on a highway and two messages appeared on my dash: "reduced engine power" and "service traction control as well as the check engine light. Experience rough and hesitant shifting between gears and could not go faster than 35mph. Was able to safely navigate home on side roads. I took it to the dealer I purchased it from for service and was told it was reading code p2138 and the throttle pedal assembly needed to be replaced. The service was covered under the dealer's warranty and I was set to go. Flash forward to 10/24/2012 with 29,355 miles, I was driving on a side road and the same messages came up. I called on star and they performed a diagnostic which resulted in the computer reading codes p2138 and c0242. Experienced out of control wheel spinning and sensitive braking. Took it to a dealer in the area I was currently in traveling for business and they could not diagnose with any issue. All codes and lights were not engaged. I still did not feel safe driving my vehicle due to problem with accelerator and had towed to the purchasing dealer near my home. They also could not diagnose with any issue as they could not duplicate the error. This is a serious safety concern and a problem (especially on the highway) with a popular model. I have also filed a complaint with gm on this issue and am hoping to have it resolved immediately.
After braking to make a turn, the following warnings came reduced engine power, service stabilatrak, and traction control off. Plus the engine warning light came on. Fortunately no accident occurred from this and I did experience reduction in engine power. These warnings remained on from the onset until this morning, 06/25/12, when I checked it again. Now the warnings are not there. I started the car and moved it to see if they would come back on and so far, nothing. I have read that there have been numerous complaints of this problem with gm vehicles particularly this model. I want to add our vehicle to the complaint list due to the uncertainty of dependability of the car and the potential for serious problem and potential for accident. . I hope that with enough complaints, a recall will be issued by gm.
While traveling down the highway at a speed of 40 the engine came to a stalled. I was force to pull over and wait for 15 minutes or more. The check engine light appeared alone with traction control. Took into dealer and unable to diagnose the problem. This is an ongoing problem as of today October 15, 2011. Also within the first six months of purchasing the vehicle the check engine light appeared because the dealer charge me 185. 00 to remove the light.
I was driving on the freeway at approximately 70mph, my check engine light came on. About 5 seconds later, my service traction control came on. As I kept driving, I lost power to my engine. Finally, my engine was disabled and I couldn't drive anymore. Luckily, I was able to pull over. After 5 minutes, I was able to start up my car. I replaced the throttle body, but my car still keeps doing this. This is very unsafe. Gm needs to recall its cars.
