6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2020

To whom it may concern: I have a 2009 chevy Impala with 100,000 miles on it. The 1st time this issue happened, I was driving slowly, on a side street, in July 2019. Out of the blue, the following warnings appeared: engine power is reduced, service stabilitrak, service traction control. Immediately my car started running horribly (it didn't want to go, was chugging, and almost felt like the transmission was slipping). I parked it. Later I started it and all warnings were gone, but the engine light was on. . The next day I started it and just the engine light was on. 3rd day I started it, engine light still on. Drove it to a shop,. Right before I pulled in, the light turned off! they scanned it anyway & said that nothing came up. The car has driven just fine, no warnings or lights until 11/25/2020. I was driving about 20mph, turned right on a side street and all of a sudden all of the exact messages as before came on. Vehicle immediately started running slow and "chugging"again. I parked it. When I started it again later, all the same messages were still there. It's definitely scary when this happens & since the 1st time it happened, I was nervous to drive it far because I wasn't sure when it may happen again. I went on a Chevrolet forum & read there was a recall for this issue. I was very pleased about that. I put in my VIN & it stated that there are no recalls. So I called gm this morning. The rep said they're aware of this issue, but there is not a recall for it. She then said that it would've covered by special warranty but unfortunately that was unavailable as of April 2019! her advice was to take it to a certified dealership and have it checked and fixed soon for my safety! I asked why there isn't a recall, if it's a known issue and she said I could talk to a customer experience manager at the dealership and maybe they could do something for me. Please help!.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2019

While driving, the car in motion it completely loses power. Have experienced this while on highway, interstate, and in town roads. So problem occurs at any speed, and results in vehicle coasting to a stop as the steering and brakes stop working too. Has happened to me hundreds of times as we can not pin point problem, and has replaced numerous different parts trying to solve it. When power loss occurs there is very little to no time at all for driver to coast & steer vehicle & occupants to safety area on side of road. The dashboard information center will state "starting disabled, service throttle" also engine power reduced" and "service stablitrak. " a new throttle has been put in vehicle and still does same thing. Over the year ive been dealing with this issue ive noticed it does it more in warm weather. After vehicle coast to a stop and is put in park and turned off, wait 5 to 10 minutes then vehicle will start up and no information or lights display in dash center, like it never happened.

Bad solenoid in transmission causes car to jerk upon acceleration. Transmission slips. Usually happens taking off from a stop with a slow acceleration. 19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2016

Vehicle serviced by firestone complete auto care, November, December 2016 vehicle was in motion, on a city street vehicle exhibited reduced engine power, ran rough, triggered engine error alarm. Diagnostic by firestone revealed a pedal position sensor error, error code p2122, resulted in replacement of accelerator pedal assembly, removal & replacement of throttle position sensor. Vehicle was in motion, on a city street upon return of the vehicle to the owner, replacement of accelerator pedal throttle position sensor resulted in intermittent, dangerously uncontrolled vehicle acceleration, vehicle was towed back to firestone repair shop. Uncontrolled vehicle acceleration was resolved by replacement of throttle body assembly. The conditions initially described, reduced engine power, rough idle was predicted in a letter, dated November 2015 as received by owner from general motors Chevrolet division regarding a do not return to dealer order, all in bold letters and under lined. Further instruction clearly communicated that the issue would not be addressed unless the issue actually occurred and had to be within strict time cut off related to when vehicle was placed in to service or under 120,000 miles. Any possible repairs once approved for the conditions described were covered under a special coverage program. The issue created a clear and obvious dangerous safety issue and should have been managed as a safety recall not a do not return to deal order and managed as a special coverage program. Owners of vehicles with the issue or the potential for this issue to occur, victims resulting from this issue should be compensated for all repair fees and liability claims resulting from this issue as reported here today.

I was driving and suddenly a symbol for traction stability came on and then a warning saying low engine power.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

This problem started 2 years ago. My car would give me a warning "service traction control. Engine power reduced. " then the car would shut off. I took the car to a local mechanic where the fixed a sensor. That was around a year ago. I travel a lot for my job and today I arrived in portland oregon had pulled off the interstate to get fuel, and once I pulled out to the extremely busy intersection my car did this again! I was stopped at a stop light and once it turned green boom car died due to traction control. So now I'm in the middle of a very busy road with traffic going around 45 mph almost rear ending me. I took the key out of the ignition for about 45 seconds and tred starting it which worked. Foolishly I thought I could at least make it to this parking lot right across the street when I went about 500 feet it did it again, in an even worse spot. I took the key out of the ignition again for 45 seconds started the car and got into the parking lot which was now 50 feet from me. I searched online for what could be causing this and that's where I found at least 50 other people having the same issue and trying to get gm to help. I will not be able to do my job if I can not get from place to place safely. This is a major safety issue that has the potential to kill people.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

I was waiting at a stop light. When the signal turned green, I turned and as I was turning my car began to decelerate and shut down. I had to steer hard to pull over to get out of traffic. I pulled alongside the road. Thinking maybe it was low on fuel, I had my brother get gas and we put gas in it. However, it would not start. Sat for maybe 20 minutes to see if it. Nothing happened. My sister came to give me a jump thinking that I needed one. However, no luck at all. Had to pull the car home. The mechanic thought that it was my starter, put the starter on and still nothing. The end result, my engine has seized on me!!.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2015

I was driving on the highway when the service traction control came up on the dash along with the traction control light, with in seconds of this happening the car read reduced engine power. The car immediately lost power and slowed down to a maximum of 25 mph. This sudden loss of power caused the cars behind me to nearly miss rear-ending me. I had to drive in this crippled mode 10 miles to reach the closest exit. It is due to a faulty throttle position sensor. This seems to be a very common problem with these vehicles and can cause a sudden loss of power.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2015

My name is james barr and I purchased a 2009 chevy Impala, with 123,000 miles on it, in August 2015 from mac churchill auto mall in bedford, texas. I have had no problems with this car since its purchase until November 29th. While en route to emory, texas, my car started displaying "engine power is reduced" and "service traction control" messages. About 99% of the way there, I suddenly got a lurch and my car slowed down, with steering and braking not working. I was able to get my car off the highway safely but had to use my emergency brake to stop my vehicle and get it turned off. I tried repeatedly for several minutes to get it going again, but it would not start. After about five minutes, the car restarted normally and has performed flawlessly since. However, I am concerned. I've had a garage pull and diagnose the problem. The error codes that were pulled are p2122 and p2138 ,regarding the accelerator pedal position sensor. I've researched this and this appears to be a common problem from what I've been able to ascertain from my research. . Read more...

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

For a few years I've had problems with the accelerator pedal. The first time was roughly two years ago when the car completely locked up and shut down on the highway just before rush hour. I received an error code to check traction control and that the engine power is being reduced. The car then looses speed dropping drastically. The first time I was in the fast lane on the highway and the vehicles computer system shut down. The steering wheel locked making it very difficult to veer off to the side of the high way. Luckily no other vehicles were directly behind me, and I was able to get the car to the side of the highway accident free. I've never been so afraid and terrified in my life. I fear this issue will cause fatalities that can be prevented. I had the car serviced at a Chevrolet dealership in ann arbor mi which was an expensive fix! since I've had the accelerator pedal replaced, the vehicle has shut off two other times followed by the same warning message to service traction control and engine power being reduced. I've written in to gm and they continue to request that I pay a diagnostic fee at a dealership for them to address the cause. I cant continue to pay $200-$300 for this fix when it is a manufacturers issue. This recall has been done on other Chevrolet models and I am praying for a recall on the 2009 Impala. This is a major safety issue to my family and the drivers who are around me. The issue is still present and is a major concern. The vehicle speed cant exceed 40mph at times, or will instantly drop at unexpected moments. Please investigate this issue.

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

I was just getting off of work and on my way to grab something to eat. As I began to make a left at a traffic light the service traction and reduced engine speed light came on. I could not go more that 30 mph and it began jerking so much that I thought the car was going to shut off. I haven't driven it since because I still have to fit it. This is my only transportation and if I was on the freeway it could have been a huge accident because the car just dropped in speed with no warning. I've seen that a lot of people have this issue. Is gm looking into this. This is something they should fix with no charge esp if its happening to a lot of people.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

This is the 3rd time: while driving, speed reduces dramatically, service engine indicator comes on followed by warnings: "engine power reduced" and "service traction control". My research on the issue to find out how to fix, shows many people having the exact same problem that isn't getting resolved by gm. Engine power reduction to such a dramatic speed can be extremely dangerous for not only the operator of the affected vehicle, but also anyone else on the road near the driver.
