1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2023

While driving the car it would pop up a message saying “engine power reduced”. Today while driving it home it popped up with a message saying “starting disabled, service throttle” and then the car wouldn’t drive and I had to pull over on the side of the road. For months now when I drive and accelerate at times the car would almost grind. I believe it has to do with the traction control or the transmission.

Safety ignition recall #14299. . . . . I received recall notice from gm 8-2014 . I took car to dealer. . In which they modified top plastic portion of key with new piece with eyelet smaller and told to keep key and transmitter by itself do not add any additional keys . . . My dilemma is now ignition switch itself is jamming up . . Locks up,,it takes 3-4 tries to turn off. . . And it turning on locks up if you or on any kind of incline. . . . Bottom line this ignition switch itself was defective and quick fix was to modify top portion of key to take weight off. Well gm and dealer say recall was not for ignition switch itself persay but for key. . . And I will be responsible for repairs/cost to replace ignition switch. . . . .

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2017

After starting my car and pressing on the accelerator car starts to jerk lights flicker and the message service traction control. The car will sometimes lose power. And does this while driving and will not accererate. I have changed the accerator petal positioning sensor as well as the battery. I do not feel safe driving this care whatsoever. And I've seen that many other Impalas have had this issues. This has happened many times. I should not have to pay for repairs when this is clearly a manufacturer issue.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2017

Autonation along with gm communicated with my mechanic and myself and told me that my car repairs would be completed and paid for by gm as part of recall work and subsequent damage from the recall work not being performed before additional damage could occur. We were even told that our rental car would be paid for but once they towed the car from our mechanic to their shop, they told us that we would have to pay for that, although didn't communicate that to us until over a month had gone by. Subsequently, autonation towed my car back to my mechanic but with even more damage than they themselves stated had been the situation with my car. Their own mechanic stated both verbally and in writing (in the work order) that the recalled wires shorted causing the damage to my car. No one will tell us why that changed once our car was towed to them as we would never have towed it to them if that would have been the case. Additionally, no one has told us why or who the someone is who disagreed with their own mechanic (and 3 additional mechanics subsequently) and made the determination that we would have to pay for the short and related damages. I do have the gm document safety recall report associated with this recall that outlines what happened to our call will happen to 1 percent of the cars manufactured during the timeframe my car was manufactured as well as the work order from autonation clearly stating a short caused damage to my vehicle.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2017

For the last two days, I have driven my vehicle. Every time I would drive over 40 mph, the engine would lock up. The vehicle would jerk and shake back and forth. The car would do this every time I went over 40 mph, no matter if I was driving on a highway or road or coming to a stop at a red traffic light. Whenever this happened, the check engine light and the traction control light would stay on. This problem started weeks after I had an auto accident.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

Traction control service reduced engine speed and check engine light appeared on dash while I was driving . I had been driving less than 5 minute at speed limit of 40 mph. I looked this up online . There were many complaints by people having this dame issue. There were people saying thier lives were endangered . They were driving and thier engine just shut off . This many people having issues with 2009 Impalas . This is obviously a defect by the manufacturer. I feel unsafe driving this car . And friends are telling me that Ford cares about the safety of people an takes care of thier customers. I am hoping Chevrolet will prove that customeds safety is number one priority. And does a recall on this issue ASAP .

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2016

The airbag light comes on intermittently. Was in a collision and the airbag did not deploy. The car was repaired but airbag light still comes on. Also the horn does not work when I press on the steering wheel. The cruise control does not work either. The lights on the cruise control buttons do not light up.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

"takata recall" this traction service control is going to get someone killed if it haven't already!!!! it comes on everyday and, few minutes it jump on and off! I have taken my to the dealership for traction service control which also had a recall and they told me I was over the 120,000 miles for the the recall. The guy act like it didn't t do it with him. I can not pull out in front of anyone because it stall out and make noise to bad, I can not back uphills without this being a problem. I get in an accident and I make out; I also told my family if I don't please sue the dealership because they is not taking this serious! me and my family along with other drivers life are in danger with this problem.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

A traction control light comes on says it is reducing speed and the car will loose power and just die. This is so dangerous it has happened three times on the freeway with my kids in the. I received a special notice recall but when I took it in they said that since I was over the mileage they could not do the repair. The key is also stuck in the ignition and will not come out draining the batter, aaa has come out twice to switch the battery out for me. There is alwas a clicking sound coming from the dashboard.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2016

I was driving on the freeway when the traction control light came on and message came across saying service traction control: then check engine light started flashing rapidly at the same time. Follow by a very loud knocking noise from the engine. Then speed would not accelerate. Turned on flashers and coasted to the shoulder. Vehicle had troubles restarting and would not move. Steering wheel was hard to turn. Tries to die while idling after you get it to start. This is not the first time this has happened - but never on the freeway which was very scary. I went to the dealership who was already aware of the problem and said without a warranty I could not be helped I could pay $700 to fix it though. They could have caused a death with knowledge of this problem and how quickly you lose power I was lucky this time, but this should be a recall situation, unbelievable.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2016

Takata recall - driver vanity lights no longer come on. Service tire monitor system malfunction and clicking noise when ac is turned on. Clicking noise continue even when car is off.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2016

2009 Chevrolet Impala. March 2015 key failed to disengage from the ignition switch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the shift park fuse needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. This after the recall for ignition switch. Also on may 27, 2016 car stared having loud clicking sound when air vent is set to air from outside or when off. Comes from passenger side dash board. Upon looking this issue up online many have stated a bad actuator being the cause. This definitely appears to be a manufacturer defect. Continues even when car is off since it switches directly back to that setting. Mileage is 78251.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2016

While driving the check engine light and traction control light comes on and reduce engine power reads across the screen. Car slows to 45 miles an hour and turns off. I have had the throttle replaced and the throttle body replaced. The problem still on going. . . . ?.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2016

First issue occurred was "service traction control" then at the same time "engine power reduced". This occurred off and on for about two weeks. Had the part suggested replaced which was the throttle. Last weekend I was on the highway and the "starting disabled service throttle" message appeared and I lost all power. It was a dangerous situation because I was passing someone at the time in the left lane and then lost all steering, brakes, power, etc. . . I have researched this and many people with same car around same miles have experienced same issue. Something you may want to look into. I haven't driven my car since this occurred and I am having it towed to the dealer and they will look at it on Tuesday 1/26/16.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

Reduced engine power, car cuts off while driving. Chevy is aware of defect and refuses to recall.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

A/c actuator.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2015

The first incident was in January. We had some bad weather and I thought it caused the problem. But recently, the car loss power again and would not accelerate. The losing power and the traction light came on. I mentioned this to the dealer when I went for the first recall for the ignition switch. The rep at chevyland in shreveport , la. Was disinterested. I also mentioned that there was a knocking noise in the dash. He advised all the Impalas have that but it is not a safety issue. I now received the recall letter stating the very thing I advised the rep of. Now they are saying they may or may not cover it. This is a safety issue. If I am trying to accelerate and can not I could be hit by an 108-wheeler or anything could happen.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2015

While driving on the highway at 55 mph the car lost power and displayed "reduced engine power. " I lost complete power and luckily was able to coast to the shoulder. It was very scary and very dangerous.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

The car states service traction control-engine power is reduced. While driving the highway the car completely shut off and had to wait about 10 minutes before being able to start it again. I drive highway daily and have a 3 year old son that rides with me this is a safety hazard for the both of us.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

'service traction control' 'engine power reduced' and engine light came on. Car lost all power. I had to wait several minutes before it would start again. I was driving 65 mph on my daily drive of 60 miles one way. Thank goodness I wasn't passing and did not have my children in the car! this has happened several times since where I have not lost all power but partial, the cruise control will quit working and the car has very little power.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2014

Key stuck in ignition for no apparent reason,no issue or warning.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2014

On 12/11 the key would not disengage from ignition although gear shift is in park. On 12/12 the car was able to start with key still stuck. I took the car to the dealer and when the technician went to get basic information to start the service process the gear shift was stuck in the park position. Dealer was unable to disengage shift and key. General motors escalated representative 800-222-1020 refused to service the vehicle at their expense for faulty manufactured parts. After researching this issue online this is a common gm Chevrolet Impala problem for which gm should accept full responsibility by performing a voluntary recall.
