1 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 09/15/2007

Transmission of 2002 Chevrolet tahoe failed for the second time. 79,000 miles. Had been driving on freeway to destination. 10 yards from destination I put the car in reverse, but reverse did not work. Car in drive suddenly had same whine as when oem transmission broke. Needed 2nd new transmission.

2 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 02/16/2006

I purchased a 2002 z71 Chevrolet crewcab 4 w/d pickup truck from hendrick Chevrolet in September of 2004, and have had my transmission (1st, 3rd and reverse) go out twice in less than a year. I contacted gm, but there was no recall at that time, but there were a lot of complaints on the NHTSA site about this same problem on my model truck. The first time it went out of may of 2005, it happened again February of this year. I had to pay $1,400 to have it fixed in may 2005, but the place of business who fixed it, fixed it again at no cost, as he said he guarantees his work for a year, and since it had not been a full year, he didn't charge me. . . You might say I was unlucky and lucky at the same time. I believe there is a serious problem with that particular model pickup.

3 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 08/31/2005

The consumer stated that the anti lock brakes were activating at low speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they cleaned the front hubs of rust. Then the abs worked properly, but the abs and brake light would come on. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership, and they found that there was an internal electrical failure in the brake control module. They performed NHTSA recall 05v379000 repairs. When driving the vehicle off of the lot it almost hit another car. The vehicle was taken back to the service department and they disconnected the fuse for the abs and the abs light stayed on. The vehicle would not pass inspection. The consumer contacted gm and they stated that the problem was not related to the recall and the consumer would have to pay for repairs out of pocket. (12/01/05) the tow haul mode was inoperative.

4 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1998 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 11/13/2002

Reaction sunshell or sun gear shell had a clean break while being driven in traffic which interacted the reverse mode of the automatic transmission. The truck had to be towed in and the failure took several days before repaired. Gm has sent information to the dealership about this which the consumer was able to obtain a copy from the service manual. Please describe details. Ts.

5 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1997 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 06/09/2000

Transmission began shifting very hard(jerking) from first to second gears and from second to third gear. When this occured the check enging light came on. Dealership told me theyiwould have to rebuild or replace the transmission. I had it replace at a cost of $2000. 00 out of my pocket. I showed the dealership my maintenance records to verify the truck had been taken care of and asked for assistance and they refused. I contacted gm customer service and I was told by them "we help only those people who have their vehicles regular service done at dealerships". Meaning that since I did not have my oil changed at the dealership at a cost of approx $30. 00 a pop verses half that cost for myself they refuse to help me. The purchase cost of $28,000. 00 obvisously not enogh for gm. How "stupid" is this? look at the complaints on "the complaint station". Gm needs to recall & reinburse us. How do we know the replacement tranny(same as original equipment) won't fail again. Can't afford $2k every 61k miles.

6 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1997 Chevrolet K1500

Failure Date: 06/24/1998

Truck was taken in many times to complain about transmission problems. Only once out of first 3 times did they find the problem. Transmission was replaced with a remanufactured transmission. On or about July 22 of 1998. Now as vehilce is approaching 60,000 mile we are experiancing the same exact problem as we had first encountered with clunking and rough shifting.
