The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet K1500. While driving during a rainstorm, the windshield wipers stopped working. The failure occurs intermittently and without warning. The vehicle has not been diagnosed. The purchase date and current mileage were unknown. The failure mileage was 161,000.

Windshield wipers and washer intermittently would not work. It started out the washer wouldn't always work and then the wipers followed suit. The first time my wipers didn't work my visibility dropped significantly and it was a dangerous drive home. I looked up this problem on the NHTSA website and saw that there is a recall on this problem. My vehicle did not get recalled. Other models in my year were recalled and my model in previous years were recalled. Chevy dealership wanted to charge me $175 to replace the wiper motor circuit board. I removed the board cleaned it re-soldered it and reinstalled in 30 minutes. Everything works great now.

On oct 6, 2005, I was driving my 1997 Chevrolet K1500 ext cab truck in a rain storm when the wipers just stopped. I found that there was a safety recall issued # 03v159000 for this same problem in 2003. When I contacted the Chevrolet dealership they requested my VIN number and then told me my vehicle was not effected by this safety recall. I then contacted Chevrolet and they told me my vehicle was not effected by this safety recall even though it might have the same wiper motor part number. They then went on to say that they sent out a bulletin that included my vehicle which stated something to the effect if failure occurs before 7 years or 70,000 miles we will replace it. Since my vehicle is a 1997 and it currently has 73,000 miles on it and no longer qualifies as a candidate for this repair. Please keep in mind the hazard still exists! Chevrolet is also still replacing/repair this particular problem on other vehicles which might exceed the 7 year or 70,000 mile cutoff. This makes no sense to me since my vehicle has the exact same issue as these other vehicles.

My VIN is not covered under the current recall and in my opinion should be.

Starting around 70,000 miles, the windshield wipers started to malfunction. When I attempt to turn them off they will often continue to run for 30 seconds or longer before stopping. When they do stop, it is usually in the middle of the windshield. I have to turn them on and off 10 to 15 times to get them stopped where they are supposed to stop. When I try to use them on the inter. Speeds they often run at a regular speed with no pauses between wipes.

My windshield wipers just stopped while I was driving at 50mph! I was very scared. Please check in to this as I have found out that others have been reporting this very same problem. This should not have been neglected so long. Thank you for your help.

My wipers worked fine on low it started raining hard I put them on high they went 1/3 up and stopped. This happend going 75mph in the dark on a busy 4 lane they came on about 45 sec. Later. I also drive a 97 k2500 at work and it did the same thing there must be many more. Nlm.

This is a recall that involved only certian vehicles, chevy does not want to reimburse for the repairs completed at the dealership. No safety defect listed.

Windshield wipers are working intermittently, and sometimes the windshield wipers won't work at all.

One time windshield wipers will work fine, the next time they will not. They have stopped while driving. This causes a severe safety hazard. Gm dealerships say this problem is not covered under recall bulletin # 98043. I do not believe this. I think the dealers are trying to sell a fix that is the manufactures responsibility. Gm would not subject their customers to a safety hazard and be subject to the libility.

Intermittent problem with windshield wiper failure. Alldata web site shows sept. 1998 safety recall for this problem for my truck -- #98043 -- but NHTSA has no record of this. Called gm and they said there is no such recall, but I have heard from several other Chevrolet and GMC truck owners with same problem with wipers. This is a safety issue.
