Chevrolet K2500 owners have reported 2 problems related to brake antilock control unit/module (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 1999 Chevrolet K2500

Failure Date: 08/02/2004

(1)brake pedal goes to floor slowly (bleeding back through master cylinder system) and pulsation from front brakes at 5 mph: brakes release and can not stop. (2)can not stop in emergency situation or in foul weather. (3)replaced master cylinder and disconnect ebcm (electronic brake control modual power lead. Note: upon doing research from NHTSA website found various complaints from consumers with similar problems. I was disappointed that dealors concluded removing the fuse. In my case, if you remove the 60 ampere fuse the power windows and hvac system become inoperative! I own a 1999 Chevrolet K2500 pickup with 56,500 miles. Additionally, I have two CO-workers who purchased 2001 k1500's that have similar abs problems. Luckily, they are under warranty.

2 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of the 1998 Chevrolet K2500

Failure Date: 01/15/2003

In January of 2003 the service brake began resisting foot pressure and making a loud vibrating noise when approaching a full stop on dry pavement on my 1998 chevy pickup with aprox. 24,000 miles. By July the problem ocurred at almost every stop. The dealer from whom the truck was purchased repaired the rear brakes ($303) and advised me that the problem with brake pedal was related to the abs system and would require replacement of the front rotors at a cost of $1000+. A dealer mechanic told me the problem could eliminated by remove the brake fuse (disabling the abs system). I confirmed this with a local garage who also informed me that the $1000 repair would only temporarily cure the problem. I have therefore been driving with abs system disabled, replacing the fuse only for inspections and removing it immediately thereafter. I have been unable to locate a recall program which would restore the use of the abs system. My truck serial number is 1gcg29r2we147793. Howard p. Whittle.
