Steering Gear Box problems of the 1997 Chevrolet Lumina

Four problems related to steering gear box have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet Lumina. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering Gear Box problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2004

While making a right turn into the parking lot steering wheel locked and consumer's vehicle hit a parked vehicle. No injuries reported. Vehicle was towed to dealer, and mechanic determined that rack and pinion steering needed to be replaced.

2 Steering Gear Box problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

Recall 03v527000, steering gear bearings: the recall work has been done twice. While driving at any speed and when turning corners vehicle would stall. Also there is a squeaking noise coming from the underside of the engine compartment. After vehicle was brought to the dealer for recall repair, the problem went worse.

3 Steering Gear Box problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2001

Steering wheel was not turning properly. While turning left steering wheel would not turn back to right. Consumer could only steer in one direction. Consumer feels this is very unsafe. Please provide any further information.

4 Steering Gear Box problem

Failure Date: 02/13/1998

Power steering failure.
