47 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Searching your database model "malibu" was not on the list. I find that hard to believe with so many complaints. After several no stops and finally an abs that would stay on the cause turned out to be the passenger hub. You probably don't want to hear all the other stuff.
Failure to inspect safety features more than once. Dt.
Front brake rotors causing extended stopping distance. Rotors have been replaced 3 times prior to the incident. Manufacturer has been notified. Please provide additional information.
Gm disregarded all complaints. Even told me they would not answer any more questions. Brakes are still a problem. Uneven wear, pulling, stiffening in rainy weather, warning light coming on. Gm refuses to even attempt to fix.
Third set of brakes & rotors in 30,000 miles, (car shakes or grinds each time) at other dealer I was told to expect it to happen again in another 10-15,000 miles only that it won't be under warranty next time. 1st time dealer replaced, 2nd time went to local garage because dealer wouldn't do it for free, 3rd time dealer replaced everything again and no charge. When I asked why it was no charge they indicated the following. (different dealership)this time tie rod was damaged and needed to be replaced as well. The dealer said the brakes themselves are not defective, it's just that the car is too heavy and works the brakes harder. The mechanic tried to convince me that it was the way I drive, but another person who works at the dealership stated to hime that she has a 98 Malibu and stated she is on her 4th set already. She also mentioned something about a bulletin. I call the chevy 800 number and made a report, but they said nothing will happen. They just put the info in the computer. No person will call, no person available to speak to. No remedy to the sitaution. I would like to be reimbursed for the second repair and want to know if a remedy will soon be available as I did not want a car that has a severe brake problem and don't believe it is fair to say that they will cover it, but only up to the warranty period. If that is the case I would like to return the car and get my money back. I'll be hard pressed to buy another chevy again after this experience. I am seeking out an attorney to explore my options with respect to the lemon laws.
Brake replaced at low milage, rechecked 2 weeks ago for problems.
When applying brakes vehicle will shake and vibrate all over. Vehicle had brakes replaced three times.
Replaced brakepadsand rotors twotimesince 50000 miles.
Brakes were replaced at 12000miles. At 31000 miles brakes were replaced again and rotors were ground down. Gm said this was normal for the car. I consider it excessive and a problem assembly warps due to two metals being used in the breaks. Heat problem.
Was told that this was normal. O safety defect.
Consumer was traveling about 60mph on the highway and the traffic was coming to a stop, she applied brakes, and steering/front end started to vibrate. Also, brakes grabbed slightly.
At high speedsthe car shakes making it hard to steer. I took in to dealer they said rotors are out of round, they cut rotors. Happen again (twice) and they finally repalced rotors. A few thousand miles later same happened. Replaced with a "redesigned rotor" which now has only lastest 7000 miles. Now warreny is up and no wants to replace rotors. I have contacted dealer, chevy, sales and service. I have received no help other then I'm out of luck. My car is not the only car with this problem. What do I dao to get chevy to be responsible for the defective rotors or braking system?.
Brake rotors were replaced twice because of warping. When consumer appliesd brakes both wheel shook. Dealership was aware of problem.
While driving consumer applied brakes and pedal went all the way down to the floor. Also, rotors and tires had to be replaced.
Vehicle has been in for a front end noise 3 times so far. . 1st the front suspension arms were replaced. . . 2nd the steering knuckles were replaced. . . . 3rd they still dont know. . . . 4th to replace front left strut. . . . On 5/22/2000 the brakes locked and shimmied, was told the rotors were worn and needed turned.
While driving at a high rate of speed and putting on brakes, steering wheel vibrated a lot. Consumer talked to Chevrolet, andthey said it was caused some flaws in the rotors.
When driving above 50 mph and brake pedal is applied, vehicle will begin to pulsate. Dealer has worked on this problem four times.
When applying brakes there is a shimmy in the steering wheel. Contacted dealer, and they replaced front brake rotors. Had to take back vehicle to dealer for the same problems on 3-Mar-2000 at 16800 miles, and dealer replaced rotors again.
Rotors replaced 3 times in one year, worn down. When applying brakes they pulsate, and there is increased braking distance. Also tie rod had to be replaced.
While driving, applying the brakes and trying slow down, steering wheel will begin to vibrate.
The brakes had to be completely replaced at 19,000 miles and again 11,000 miles later. Independent brake repair shop said it was a manufacturer defect. Still trying to resolve with GMC.
When pressing brakes brakes pedal has gone to floor before vehicle will slow down. Brakes were replaced in 1999/ 2000, and 2001. Approximately every 15000 miles the brakes and rotors had been changed.
Anytime when applying brakes they pulsate/ vibrate had the rotors turned at the dealership. But, is still having problems with brakes.
Gm needs to recal the Malibus for brake replacement problems.
When applying the brakes the vehicle would begin to surge then shake and shimmy making steering difficult the rotors were turned and worked fine for about 3000 mi. Then the same problem occurred the rotors were then replaced while at the dealership we learned that they were having a lot of this type of problem with the Malibu and grand am . We were also informed that the warranty on the rotors was only for 17000 mi. Rather than the 36000 mi. Shown in the warranty book.
Every three months anti-lock braking system rotors have to be changed or shaved. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.
Whenever brakes were applied in an emergency situation/sudden stop, it caused vehicle to go out of control. Vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on four occasions, and nothing could be found.
We have been having problems with the brakes on this car from the time we bought it. The right front brakes pull and shake when you apply them. The vehicle has been serviced several times for the same problem by Chevrolet and it still occurrs. Everyone else we have talked to that also owns a Chevrolet Malibu has the same problem. I am concerned not only for my safety and the safety of others around me, but also that this car will cost me a fortune once the warranty expires. This is obviously (to me and the people I have talked to) a manufacturers defect. Please investigate accordingly. Thank you for your time. Mary "carolyn" kling.
Consumer has had to replace brakes and rotors five times in a year and a half. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Brakes pulsated and made noise. Currently, brakes are locking up and rotors need to be replaced.
