The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu classic. While driving at any rate of speed, the vehicle randomly stalled several times without warning. In addition, the anti-theft warning indicator flashed numerous times. The contact had to restart the vehicle each time the failure occurred and, at times, the key was extremely difficult to turn over to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet inspected and diagnosed by a mechanic nor a dealer. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 179,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the anti-theft system illuminated. When the key was in the ignition, it would not register the vehicle as being in the on position, even if the engine was running. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was repaired under a recall by a piece of plastic being placed in the key to make the hole smaller; however, this did not repair the vehicle. The manufacture was not notified of the failure. The NHTSA campaign number was unavailable. The failure mileage was 170,000.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the anti theft system failed. The anti theft warning light illuminated when the ignition switch was turned to the on position causing the engine not to start. The contact had to wait several minutes for the anti theft light to disengage to be able to start the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed that the vehicle computer system needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.
"passlock system" 2000 Chevrolet Malibu will not let car start, and sometimes causes engine to go dead while driving, which leaves driver unable to steer car (power steering). Passlock sensor was changed a year ago at Chevrolet dealership ($750) now its doing same thing again.
2000 chevy Malibu anti theft would keep car from starting for no reason. I could follow the gm's fix for this by waiting 10 minutes and than the car would start. We have dealt with this problem for a couple of years and the dealer has told us they can find nothing wrong. It has progressed to where you now are able to start the car but it will shut the engine off within a minute. This has happened 4 times in the last 2 days. This happened once to my wife when she was driving on the road the engine just shut off creating the possibility of an accident.
My 2000 chevy Malibu at least once a week or more will not start and the anti-theft system light comes on. After waiting 10 minutes for the light to go off, it will usually start the second time around. This has been going on for a year, but recently the car wouldn't start after numerous 10-minute delays. After paying out $94 for labor I was told it couldn't be fixed and to look for a recall. I have found no recall but many, many people with the same problem. I am a single woman and I have been sitting in far too many parking lots, all times of day and night waiting for my car to realize that it is not being stolen by me, the one with the key. I have no expertise in this matter and cannot afford to pay out labor charges only to be told that there's no way to fix it. I continue to drive it this way never knowing when I'll be stuck for 10 minutes or much longer as happened recently. Since I feel I need a car that will start much more than I need an anti-theft system why can't this thing just be completely disabled so I don't live in constant fear?.
2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS was driven to work. Shut the car off and went insided the building. Came out and car would not restart due to the theft system light flashing. Had to wait at least ten minutes for the car to start. The consequences is that the car if leaving people stranded.
The pass lock or theft system on my 2000 chevy Malibu. It is been an ongoing problem. Every three starts I have to wait 10 minutes to start my car. This is a stupid feature, and gm should discontinue it. I have not yet fixed the problem, but was estimated $500 plus parts to fix.
My malabu is not listed on the recall list, but I have had problems with the ignition for the past five years. 90 percent of the time when it won't start the indicator lights shows the anti theft light. You can sit there for at least 10 minutes and the car will then start. If you try it in less than 10 minutes it messes up again and you have to start the 10 minutes again. We have taken it to the mechanic numerous times and they have tried numerous things to get this to correct itself. They thought it was in the key and we have gotten new keys from the dealer and that didn't work. In the past 6 months, the car has started just cutting off while driving. Luckily it has been while still in the neighborhood and no one has gotten hurt. We then pushed the car to the side of the road, wait the 10 minutes and restart the car. This is the same thing that the gm recall is for other vehicles. Please include my car in the recall and fix this problem before someone gets killed.
I own a 2000 chevy Malibu that has a passlock (theft system) that will set off at odd times and not start my car for 10min or longer depending on the day!!! I called a dealership today to find out how much repair would be for this problem and was told it would be between $400-$800. I have owned my car for almost 3 years and have been having this problem with it since I drove it off the lot, but in the last week it has gotten worse.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the anti-theft sensor was illuminating intermittently. In addition, the contact was not able to get the key to turn from an off position to an on position. On some occasions, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 12v224000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.
2000 Chevrolet Malibu , bought the car in 2005. The anti-theft light comes on and car won't crank, or a few minutes down the road if it does crank it stalls looses all power ,and then won't crank for about 30 minutes later if not I might have to beat with my hand on the dash just under the ignition switch for all power to regain its self. This problem started back in 2008, but my husband got it doing right again after about a month of tapping the computer part of the switch from the inside of the dash with a screw driver handle every time he went to crank it. It did fine up until recently , about somewhere in February of 2011, it started doing it again, dealership can seem to tell me nothing, they have no idea even after running it on a computer over night, all because the computer they said can't find anything, how dumb. I am poor, can't afford another car. I love my Malibu apart from what it is doing to me, I have 2 kids, small kids, they are with me 24/7 and the car will just die on me leaving me to use all ,y strength and power to steer and stop the car on to the side of the road. To top it off my air isn't working anymore, and being stuck like that in the heat from this state of alabama, is not fun or healthy for my 2 kids or me. I just want it to work like it is supposed to . I can't afford to pay over 300 dollars for a switch and I don't even know if that is the problem, my car surges, and no one can seem to tell me a straight answer , but what I do know is I am not the only one with this problem. And someone needs to fix it now. Before something bad happens, what if it dies on me like that and it will at high speeds ,and someone not paying attention runs me and my 2 kids over. Please I am begging you, I don't want a new car, I just want my problem that seems to be very common fixed.
Auto theft system light starts blinking and car will not start. Car will not start until 10 minutes later. If car does not start after this, it will take another 10 minutes before you can try to start it again. This has been happening since I bought in 2001. Will leave me stranded everywhere.
The anti-theft ignition lock device malfunctions every day, 3 or more times in most cases, you have to wait 10 minutes to attempt to start the car again and even then it may not start and you have to wait 10 more minutes, now its not a "crash your car through a building and kill people" type of problem but it is a "sit in your car in a terrible neighborhood and pray you dont get raped, murdered, robbed, etc" problem. I recently was working in inner city baltimore and was required to park my car on greenmount avenue, which is the worst of the worst and sometimes it would take me an hour to start my car!!!!!!!!! this is utterly ridiculous and this is the reason nobody wants to buy american made cars anymore!!!!!! take responsibility gm!!!!!!!!!! I shouldnt have to pay $300+ to get this issue fixed. Gm should pay for it and also remove this device from all of thier vehicles. It was obviously not a well thought out theft deterrent. And further more there are several other issues on my vehicle that I have been told are "notorious" on these cars. The whole entire brand should fall under the lemon law. I want some satisfaction, they need to do a recall for this. It is the ignition lock cylinder and housing assembly and I currently dont have the money to get it fixed, and I may never have the money seeing as how it constantly makes me late for work and I may lose my job because of it! way to go chevy-thumbs up!.
Passlock anti theft light comes on mainly on humid days and the car will not start for at least a ten minute wait. Sometimes we have to wait 2 or 3 times. I believe gm should put out a recall since thousands of other people out there are having the same problem with this car.
I own a 2000 Malibu with a passlock problem, just like thousands of other suckers. The theft system light comes on and you have to wait 20 minutes to start the car. Great feature!.
Anti-theft system keeping car from starting.
In hot and humid or wet weather, my 2000 chevy Malibu's passlock system goes into fail safe/standby mode when I attempt to start the vehicle which renders my vehicle unable to start for a minimum of 10 minutes. This has left me innumerable times stranded for 10 minutes in rather dangerous locations such as ill-lighted parking lots after dark. The frequency of these failures recently began to increase, so I researched information about the possibility of disabling the anti-theft system that fails to do little more than cause a headache for my mechanics. To my dismay, I found that chevy's passlock system cannot be overridden by any method short of a do-it-yourself re-wiring project. To have the problem fixed temporarily, I could have the entire ignition system replaced by Chevrolet for somewhere in the neighborhood of $450. Note that I said temporary because from the stories of those who have had the repair done, it will need to be done again a few years later as the ignition wears down once more. I am also concerned by stories I hear about further problems that drivers have had with the passlock system where the car engine turns itself off while being driven and requires that the driver pull over to restart the vehicle. I hope this never happens to me. Given that this has been happening to every model of car that has had this passlock system in place since passlock's inception, I am surprised that there have been no recalls made by Chevrolet in almost 10 years. It would seem that Chevrolet is more interested in profiting from continually repairing a system that we could just get rid of and not in the safety of its consumers. Therefore, I ask that you please mandate a recall on all Chevrolet's with the passlock anti-theft system.
I would like to report the problem im having is with my wife's 2000 chevy Malibu, and from what I have been reading this will cause a number of deaths and crashes if not already but no one has figured it out yet. The car will not start at the most important time maybe when she may one day may be trying get away from a rapist or a murder. And no I am not the only one there are over thousands of people like someone child or wife that is right at this moment stuck on the side of the road, or maybe the car turn off on I-95 while they were doing 70 on the interstate with a 18 wheeler moving at the same speed that could not stop because of the problems with the anti-theft system and ignition switch. To the point the car will cut off when you are driving it down the road without no warning, and if you make it safe to where you are going the car will not start if you try to. You have to wait 10 min. To try to start it. There many people out there having this problem chevy is not help out any. It will not give a trouble code, so they skip around with uneeded repairs. Something needs to be done this is a big problem. And who is to say how many people that many have been hurt or killed because of this that may not known about this. It is a death trap and needs to have a look into. Thanks.
The car began locking up with the theft system" light blinking. The car will not crank until you waited 10 minutes for it to stop blinking. This can happen two or three times in a row, at least once a day. I have been told there is no way to fix it.
I have a 2000 chevy Malibu that has had a number of problems with turn signals and general other safety related concerns. Now on multiple occurances the car will not start with the oem key and wireless controller. The "theft system" light turns on sporadically leaving me unable to start the car. . . The car cranks but the theft system disables the car from turning over or fully starting. I have sent the car into the shop several times where they were unable to replicate the problem. Now they finally "pinned down" the issue and are requesting over $800 to replace the ingition module. I have read enough about this issue on forums and the auto repair (non-dealership) has admitted to "fixing" this problem on many mailbu's prior to mine. I have been stranded several times, incurred over $375 in towing and auto shop expenses. . .
2000 chevy Malibu passlock anti theft system- continues to activate with original keys will not allow the car to be started for 10 minutes sometimes longer. Happens 5-6 times a month.
Car act as if its going to start but cuts off. I have had to sit for 15 to 20 minutes for the car to start. The theft lock system light flashes on and off during this time once it stop the car seems to start after the flashing stops. This causes me to be late to places also to block gas pumps and things .
Gm passlock (anti-theft) feature malfunctions while starting a warm engine. Engine almost never fails to start when either the engine is hot or the engine is cold. Recently, I have had to abandon a 2000 Malibu on two occasions for failure to start after multiple "10 minute waits" and come back the next day to start the car. Failure of the engine to start could result in injuries or death depending on the situation and location. Consider an elderly person that has to abandon their vehicle on the side of a rural road at night and have to walk a long distance in extremely cold weather.
I have a 2000 chevy Malibu LS in which the anti theft system does not allow me to operate my car properly. I will try to start my car and go somewhere and it wont start for ten to fifteen minutes. I live inwi where it can get very hot and extremely cold. I also have a child under the age of two who is with me in my vehicle on a regular basis. I have called gm and complained about this issue and I am told that they cant do anything because this is not a saftey issue. This is a saftey issue. If it is below freezing out side and I have my baby in the car with me and have to wait for ten of fifteen mins for it to hopefully start my child or I could get very sick. Not to mention sitting in a hot car for that time waiting for the fake light to go off so that I can start it with they key that is supposed to go with the car but yet the car thinks im trying to steal it. And another one if im traveleing and stop to get gas at night and I have to pay at the pump and turn the car off, cuz thats what your supposed to do while fueling, then it doesnt want to start again im stranded at an unopened gas station who knows where with my young child and myself at night in the freezing cold or very hot temps. Why again is this not a saftey issue? this problem needs to be fixed. And we should not have to pay for it to be done either. 400 to 800 to try to fix a problem that gm should recall. And it isnt even guarenteed to not happen again. Why is it that gm wont recall this issue that I have seen tons and tons of complaints about? is it because gm doesnt know a solution to this problem? well gm u better figure one out or u will most likely be loosing a lot of customers. I certiantly wont buy another gm car if they wont take responsibility for the issues that they are having with these cars now. Gm should stand by their product and fix the issues that consumers are having with their cars. This is definately a saftey issue who are you kidding? fix this problem!!!!.
My car will not start when the theft security light comes on. This is dangerous since I am a single parent and become stranded with my children inside the car with me or have to pick my children up and they have to wait alone outside because I am so late. Today, my car has not started for over one hour. It is still sitting in the parking lot unable to start because of the security theft system. I wish this would be recalled, and hope that people don't have to start dying for it to be recalled. Looking online about this problem, I have noticed that there are thousands of complaints filed on forums. I believe that if everyone knew the proper channel to complain to, that this problem would no longer exist. My abs light comes on everyday. I have had the sensor leads changed twice and it still comes on. My air conditioning was fine until this summer when I needed it. Are these cars now designed to break down and be unreliable just so that the dealers can charge money for diagnostics and mechanical repair? I am so frustrated and hope that you can see how dangerous this can be. I bought this car because I wanted a reliable, dependable vehicle for myself and children, what will it take to recall this problem? will I receive acknowledgement of receipt of this complaint. I thank you in advance for your time and consideration to this very urgent matter. There was a recall on the hazard switch because it didn't always work, it didn't always allow for the turn signals to work either. I doubt that there were any deaths from this problem, and it was recalled. Does someone have to die in an accident as a result of a problem with a vehicle before it will be recalled. Please send me any additional information you may have about who to file additional complaints with so that I can direct my concerns to other state or federal agencies as well.
My anti theft device goes on every time I try to start the car. I have to wait 10 minutes before I can start the car. Was doing it once and a while and now it does it every time.
Why for a second time have I had to have my car into get fixed for the anti theft device turning on when nothing was done to set it. Now I have to drive 4 hours round trip to have the dealer look at this problem. The first time it happen we where able to fix it with the manual. Second time did not work????????.
When the consumer attempted to started the vehicle the anti theft lights illuminated on the dashboard. When this light is illuminated the vehicle will not start. The heater and signal lights also failed to operate. The manufacturer and the dealer will be informed of the problem.
Vehicle passlock theft device is defective. At least a couple times per week the passlock system engages making the vehicle inoperative.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. When the contact started the vehicle, the anti-theft warning light illuminated on the instrument panel until the engine was turned off.
