42 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2011

Power steering failed today completely and I ran off the road when entering the highway. I almost crashed into a semi-truck and could have easily been in a large crash if the truck was only a few feet closer. I have researched this problem online and found that this is a common problem with this car. I am not surprised how slow the government works. I assume that nothing will come from my complaint. My power steering has been faulty for a couple years now, but this is the first time it has failed completely. I feel bad if I sell this car because it might kill the person I sell it to, because there is no telling when the steering will fail.

43 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2011

On Tuesday, June 7, 2011 the power steering on my 2004 chevy Malibu LS suddenly went off while using the turn signal to change lanes at 5-10mph. A power steering problem was posted on the digital display and the car icon with a wrench lit up. Steering was very difficult, worse than manual and felt locked. I was terrified and immediately drove to the mechanic and left the car for them to inspect. They reported that the car started up properly and there was no problem with the power steering that they could detect. They drove it several times during the day but did not experience the power steering failure. Their research indicated that there were complaints on this model and the steering column may be defective. I also checked on the internet and found many complaints with the same problem. I believe that this problem is potentially a serious accident threat with possible death occurring and should be recommended for recall.

44 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2011

2004 Malibu maxx steering failure. Vehicle purchased in September 2009. Sporadic difficulty with power steering going out, has increased to a daily occurrence. When accellerating into a turn, must hold onto steering wheel tightly and lean heavily into turn to navigate sufficiently to avoid collision with other vehicles/objects/pedestrians. Problem also occurs on highway, changing lanes, and when navigating exit ramp when there is a curve. Have had steering wheel cleaned and greased, but problem still exists. The column clicks during the turn if the power steering has failed. I see there has been no recall for this failure, and am looking for recommendation for repair, as my research has found little to remedy. A older senior friend with the same vehicle had difficulty navigating a turn in effingham nh a couple months ago, and went off the road, resulting in total loss of vehicle and fortunately, minimal injury to the driver.

Power steering control I have a 2004 chevy Malibu maxx v6, I bought new a few months later I heard a faint knocking in the steering wheel each year it became more noticeable. Now the service engine light comes on with the message of power steering. I have complained and had a number of diagnostic checks that are different results. Chevy refuse to acknowledge the numerous complaints. My power steering failed on me going down the highway behind an 18 wheeler, I struggled just to get across 1 lane and onto the shoulder. I was too scared to turn the car off because I was 10 mi. Away from home. So I slowly drove down the highway once I made it home I turned the car off and later turned it back on with power back in my steering wheel. This is just as dangerous as Toyota cars. There need to be a full investigation this is one of many complaints I have posted with no results!!!!!!!!.
