Referred to you by gm after dealer refused to consider this a free repair, as my vehicle is not covered by recall #13036d. Vehicle is exhibiting same conditions as per your recall, brake light remains illuminated . Panic-brake assist malfunctioned 2 weeks ago; almost resulting in a rear end collision. This occurred on a 4 lane highway, and vehicle began to skid. At that point I released the brake, and was forced to pump them in order to slow vehicle. Park-brake feature also malfunctions randomly. These are all due to voltage fluctuations in body control module connection, requiring a spacer to be installed.

The contact also stated that on a few occasions, the brake lights illuminated independently. The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu maxx. When the steering wheel was turned to the left and when starting the vehicle, an abnormal noise emerged from the steering wheel. The dealer was notified of the failure and indicated that it was due to a safety feature. In addition, the brake lights remained illuminated when the brakes had not been applied. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was not available.
While traveling home I was pulled over by a state trooper. I was told I was not using my signal lights and my brake lights were not working. For the past few weeks my abs light has been coming on but I just had brakes put on my car. When I drive in the rain my brake petal goes almost to the floor before I can stop and my car makes strange scrubbing noises from time to time. As advised I had my lights checked by a professional and it was found my lights seemed to be burned/melted at the bottom where the bulbs connect to the base. I have replaced them several times and do not understand why they have to be replaced so often. Due to these issues I am afraid to drive in the rain and constantly check my brake and signal lights.

Was told by a driver who had been behind me coming up to a traffic light that my brake lights were not working. She said it looked as though they were on while I was accelerating and went off when I was stopping. I have replaced the brake light diagnostic resistor and it hasn't done anything. I also have had issues with getting the car out of park and with the cruise control refusing to engage or disengaging itself. I understand now that these are reoccurring problems for this car and it has something to with terminal fretting corrosion in the body control module but there has been no recall for this problem. When I bought the car less than a year ago, there was no mention of this problem. I have no idea how long the brake light problem has existed since no one has told me about it before this but the cruise control acted funny even when I was test driving the vehicle before purchase. I mentioned it to the salesperson and he said they would check it out. It worked the next time I test drove it but has frequently not worked after I actually bought it. Getting the car out of park has been a problem on several occasions since I bought it.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the brake lights were illuminated independently without the brakes being applied. The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 65 mph with the cruise control engaged, the cruise control deactivated and the brake lights illuminated without warning. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the brake lights turned off. The contact powered the vehicle off and back on and the brake lights resumed normal operation. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake light switch was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 199,000.
Brake lights remain on with no contact with brake pedal. When pedal is depressed the brake lights go off. This has caused numerous 'road rage' incidents and near-miss rear-end collisions.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu LS. The contact stated the rear brake lights were not working. He then realized the brake light bulb element was used not only for the brakes, but also the indicators and emergency flashers. The consumer stated if an emergency occurred all of the rear indicators and signals would be inoperative. The consumer stated he would be unable to warn any traffic that there was a problem and wished to get over to the emergency lane. Nor can he warn an approaching vehicle coming from behind that he is braking which could result in a rear end collision. The failure mileage was 87,095 and the current mileage is 87,180. Updated evoq 02/10/11 updated 02/18/11 the consumer stated the only indication on the vehicle that there is anything wrong is a quick flash of the display signal indicator symbol. In most cases it infers that the signal light circuit has one bulb failure. Updated 03/09/11.
On a 2005 chevy Malibu our brake lights, on the rear of the vehicle, often work in reverse. In other words, the brake lights are on when you aren't hitting the brakes, and they are off when you are hitting the brakes. This seems to pose a safety concern since vehicles behind you do not know when you are hitting the brakes. I am reporting this because I have seen on many forums that other people have the same problem so this should be a factory recall instead of something we have to pay for to get it fixed. .
