1 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2019

My passenger side headlamp light (turn signal) assembly keeps burning out and melting the bulb housing and orange lens. It burned a hole in the orange turn signal lens. I replace bulb after bulb but it keeps failing. Please issue a recall because no car owner should have to keep replacing bulbs constantly only for them to fail over and over again! this happens when the car is stationary, moving, etc. .

2 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

The contact owns a 2005 Malibu maxx. While operating the vehicle, the passenger and driver side turn signals malfunctioned and would not illuminate. The vehicle was taken to lewis Chevrolet of garden city (1903 us 50 bus e. , garden city , KS) where it was diagnosed that the headlight bulb sockets had melted and damaged the bulbs. The dealer stated that the bulbs could not be screwed out of the light bulb sockets and the entire headlight bulb assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact indicated that the failure occurred to both the driver and passenger side assemblies on multiple occasions. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 160,000.

3 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2016

Bought car used at 136,000 miles. Car radio does not light up or work, and horn doesn't work. Drivers side back window won't go down. First day driving the car, turn signals stopped blinking and then started blinking again. Suspension in the back squeaks badly when driving at random and going over speed bumps. Did not drive the car for more than one day and now car won't start at all (no crank, no start). These are major safety issues including serious electrical problems. The battery is only one year old on the car when purchased, so should be good. These electrical issues need to be recalled. Now I am stuck with a car that has so many problems and won't start and is definitely not safe to drive.

The turn signal lights are burning out the socket as well as the light covering. I have to replace the bulb it seems like every month.

6 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

The park light/daytime running lights are constantly melting the amber lens. The bulb socket melts causing the turn signal not to work. Every few months I have to remove headlight lamp and fix bulb so it will work. I have seen a number of people with the same problem with their Malibus. Chevrolet needs to fix this problem. This should be a recall as many as are having this problem.

7 Turn Signal problem

9 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2015

The front turning signals have not worked for 2 years I have had the head lights completely replace twice. The second time I had them replaced when the light housing of the turn signals were opened the light bulb and hook ups were melted together.

10 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

The turn signal bulbs get too hot and melts into the socket which makes the connection go bad. Even if you change the bulb the connection is bad so the socket has to be changed. This has happened on both of the front bulbs.

11 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

Bulb design flaw: it burns hot and melts through bulb socket. Original bulb 3157 burns plastic housing on front directional turn signals on Malibu. It is a liability issue - faulty design made for failure and possible major fire hazard issues.

12 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Front turn signal sockets melted.

13 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2014

Head lamp bulbs and turn signal bulbs have repeatedly burnt out. Bulbs have been replaced by certified gm shop only to burn out again.

14 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

The drivers side turn signal bulb keeps burning out. I have replaced the bulb twice but it continues to burn out. There are many other complaints about this issue.

15 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the passenger side turn signal failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 95,000.

16 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2013

Turn signals burning so hot they explode, and melt not only housing for bulb, but also the socket in order to replace bulb is melted too. There needs to be a recall on this as I have found over 200 other complaints of people having the same issue!.

17 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2012

Both the front turn signal amber bulb housing keeps melting to the bulb and also the light sockets , oem and after market ones.

18 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2012

My 2005 Malibu maxx indicated that a turn signal bulb was out and when I went to replace the bulb I noticed, not only that the bulb itself was significantly burned at the socket, but also that the blinker plastic was substantially melted. I checked the other side of the car and even though that bulb is still functioning, the plastic blinker housing is starting to melt on that side as well. Clearly the bulbs are burning way to hot to be melting the plastic housing and I would assume since the bulb itself was burned that this is a larger issue of both potential fire risk and now water damage since the blinker housing is compromised.

19 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

I purchased this vehicle very used at 143xxx miles, from a "reputable" dealer. I got a tune up as well as an oil change, standard used car purchase procedure. My dad initially brought to my attention that while driving my fuel gauge dropped down to e, the low gas light lit up and the check engine light came on. A local auto parts store said I should use a fuel injection kit for the check engine light. Now I have 146xxx miles and it happens every single time I get gas. It's nerve racking because I do drive frequently and my main concern is how much gas do I have? I came across a guy that works at a different auto store and he said it's probably my sender unit for my gas tank, which should cost about $300 to fix depending on where I take it. My next set of issues is my horn, I was unaware that it didn't work upon purchasing until I went to honk it and nothing happened. I took it to midas and they replaced the fuse. After driving it home the horn stopped working again. I heard it's just some wires touching but nobody does electrical work. Today, a friend asked if my turn signals were working. I said they did and he said they were burnt up, plastic and all. I looked and sure enough they were melted and the light itself was black on the inside and it looked like it's on the verge of shattering. He asked if there were recalls on anything with this car, I told him I called a local chevy dealer and the guy insisted otherwise. Now, I checked this website and both the gas and lights are on a list of recalls. Apparently, not all dealers know half the information they should for concerned drivers.

20 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2012

2005 chevy Malibu maxx front headlight turn signal bulb melted the housing surrounding the bulb with correct bulb replacement. Bulb keeps burning out and am concerned that this melting will result in safety issues or further damages to the headlight housing.

21 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

Passenger side front turn signal bulb burns out frequently. It also will work one day and suddenly stop working the next day, then work again later without having done any intervention at all. If I wiggle the bulb just right within the socket, I can get it to work. Something as simple as running into a pothole can make the bulb unit work or cease working.

22 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu maxx. The contact stated that while parked, he noticed that a hole was melted into the amber turn signal headlight lens, exposing the housing unit. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

23 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2012

Front turn signal bulbs (left and right) have melted the plastic housing surrounding them. Bulbs burnout easily. Evidence of melted plastic is a concern for other electrical problems.

24 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the front driver and passenger side turing signals continued to burn out. The contact stated the turn signal bulbs would fail immediately after they were replaced. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The test results showed a defective headlight assembly. The dealer suggested that both headlight assemblies be replaced. The contact did not have the headlight assemblies replaced. The failure mileage was 86,987.

25 Turn Signal problem

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing where the mechanic advised the contact that the head lamp assembly would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000. Kmj.

27 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu maxx. The contact stated that the front driver and passenger side turn signals failed. The contact stated that the lenses were melted on both sides. The contact replaced the lenses three times in the last nine months. The contact stated that the connection for the light bulbs were burned out but the light itself continued working. The fuse for the light bulb had not failed. The failure mileage was 84,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

28 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

In both front headlight assemblies, there is an amber plastic cover which covers the bulb that is always on, as part of the regular running lights, and also for turn signals. The light has burned a hole, about 1 1/4 inch in diameter, in the top of the amber lens. The edge of the lens is black all around from the burning. Is my car unique? have there been any other complaints? and most important, is there any danger of a fire starting?.

29 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the turn signals were in operative. The wires also began to melt the bulb, causing the left and right turn signals to fail. The dealer was notified but denied any assistance with repairing the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was unavailable. The VIN was unavailable.

30 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2011

I have owned my 2005 Malibu maxx for just over a year and have had to replace the front turn signal sockets, both driver and passenger sides, three times now due to melted sockets and amber covers melting down to the bulbs. Even though they are vented they do not stay cool enough to prevent severe electrical damage to the components. In replacing these components I have to wait a week until the parts are shipped out and am forced to drive with faulty equipment. I am unable to just replace the bulbs and have to constantly change the bulbs out before they melt to the sockets. This is a huge hazard as they can go out on me in the middle of driving in rush hour traffic putting me at a greater risk of injury. Please force gm to issue an actual recall on this issue and not just skate free on the service bulletin that has been issued. Thank you,.

31 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

Driver side day time running light/turn signal bulb socket causes bulb base to melt and cause a shortage. In one year bulb has had to be replaced 4 times. Bulb manufacturer sent me heavy duty replacement bulbs to help solve the problem they suggest that gm is aware of. Two heavy duty bulbs have also gone bad with most recent melting the base within two days. Problem is no day time running light or turn signal. Passenger side bulb was replaced once, likely under normal wear.

32 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu maxx. The contact stated that the turn signals failed intermittently. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact replaced the bulbs however, the failure continued to recur. The current mileage was 138,000 and the failure mileage was 108,000.

33 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2011

Complete and total lock up of power setaring; battery light flicks on and then everything locks up until you relace the gas peddle for about 3 seconds. My lights randomly flash and rear bulbs on the driver side blow every 3 days. My turn signals will spraticaly blink and the wiper blades go off with out warning or being prompted. Even with no keys near or in the car it will not turn over to start the car until you floor the gas peddle and hold it there for 3-5 seconds. My raido reads at - all the time and the cd player has never worked correctly. When going from 0 to 50 getting on the parkway (highway) the whole car locks up and loses power including the stearing radio and lights unless you completely relese the gas then start to go again. Im so highly frustraited and chevy refuses to fix it even though these are all recalled problems but my VIN doesnt fall in there "bracket".

34 Turn Signal problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the front driver side turn signal was not functioning. The contact replaced the headlight bulb approximately five times.
