I'll start by saying my vehicle had approximately 84,000 miles on it when this issue occurred a few weeks ago and is very well cared for and maintained. While driving on the highway at night I noticed that my break lights were not coming on when I pressed the break (I didn't see them illuminating the car behind me). While stopped in traffic I noticed that if I pressed the break pedal as far as it could go the lights would come on. The breaks lights then started working properly for about 15 minutes, then they started working in reverse order (breaks not pressed and light switch on, breaks pressed and break lights switch off). I brought the vehicle into a chevy dealer to have this issue looked at, and referenced that it was showing the symptoms described in NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000. The dealer noted that I had already had the repairs for 14v252000 back in 2014 so it could not be due to that issue. In the end the deal changed my break switch and pedal position sensor, which has resolved the issue. I would ask that 14v252000 be updated to require the break switch and pedal position switch be replaced. I believe gm's response to original complaints of 14v252000 is not adequate. I am fortunate to be very observant of what my vehicle is doing, others will be much less fortunate and the results will lead to a crash.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 chevy Malibu. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph around a curve, the contact depressed the brake pedal with no response and the brake pedal stuck to the floor. The traction control light became illuminated and the vehicle accelerated and crashed into a ditch. The air bags did not deploy. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 161,000. Ed.
As I drove from racine, WI to milwaukee, WI. While driving my car days after I purchased it , suddenly the instrument panel lights started flashing on and off. This includes gas gauge, oil light, check engine soon , abs, speedometer , dome light, radio,. . . Also showed on instrument panel an image of a car and a lock. Etc. . It flashed on and off for a while then completely went out. So I was unable to determine speed, how much gas was in the tank no inside light or radio. . The weather was below zero with a wind chill factor and I assumed it had something to do with that. After a few days everything came back except radio. An additional couple of days and radio came back . The car went in for inspection with in 10 days of purchase . Nothing was said, about electrical or instrument panel. Now on or about June 10th the same thing is happening more continuous flashing and electrical going out. It flashes when you start the car and continuously flashes while you drive sometimes just going blank for a while. . Thank you.

The vehicle went through a field through 2 fences and over a ditch before coming to a stop. The engine did not shut off. There was major front end damage, from the fence posts, and the air bags never deployed. The vehicle was declared a total loss due to the damage.

I have received two recall notices in the past two months, one for the electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control; and the other for the transmission shift cable, which may fracture at any time. Both notices informed me that the dealer would perform repairs at no cost, but that parts are not currently available. Am I to continue driving my defective car and hope that I won't get into an accident caused by the above problems? I am very low income and can't afford to rent a car.
After finding out that there are recalls for my car per dot. Gov, I scheduled an appointment for repairs with vandergriff Chevrolet in arlington for 7-21-14. I requested that they repair the parts under recall and issue a refund for the amount I paid previously for repair to power steering on my vehicle. I was told that someone would be in touch with me. When I did not get contacted, I returned to the service department to speak with a technician in regard to my service request. Once again, as previously, I was told that there are no recalls on my car. When I directed the technician to the information released by the dept. Of transportation, he stated that gm sent out additional recall letters to recall the original recall notices because they were issued in error, and that there are none in effect for my vehicle. No repairs were done.

Received letter on 8-11-2014, recall #14152, no parts available and do not know when the will be at this time. The national customer service center called jack wilson and set up for me to go and have them inspect recall items and let me know that there was no eminent danger. I went to jack wilson and spoke with the service person sherri carnes which did not have the inspection done. She was willing to inspect the steering issue which she said was not a recall issue by turning the steering wheel back and forth and did not have a certified technician even look at the car. This car is my mother's only car, she is 84 and doing well until she got these recall letters. She does not feel safe to drive this car and no one can tell me when the parts will be available for the repairs to be completed. I worry that something will happen, my daughter and her 2 little girls use this car with faulty brake usage. Please help with this repair before they are in an accident. Thank you. . . . This is a recall but I am not getting anywhere.
I was driving my vehicle on the freeway in lunch hour traffic. As I exited the freeway to change to a connecting freeway, the engine shut off half way along the exchange ramp. At that point I noticed that I had poor breakage and no power steering. Lucky, I was able to coast over and stop in the emergency lane mid ramp, put the car in park, restart the vehicle, and drive off without indecent. It was unsettling to say the least.

Breaks lights work intermittently. While applying breaks, the lights will turn off. The lights will flash on and off while driving. This happened intermittently, regardless of speed. Previous owner was rear ended with motorist stating the break lights were not working. While driving on the highway in stop and go traffic, I was nearly rear ended. At that point I took the car to my mechanic who notified me of the special bulletin that was posted regarding this issue. I was very disappointed that Chevrolet would not offer to fix the known safety issue at no charge. They charged $150. 00 for a simple fix.
I was driving on the interstate on 11/18/2012, when a car cut across all three lanes. It had not been raining, and the roads were dry, but when I applied my brakes to avoid hitting the car that cut me off, my wheels locked up sending me fishtailing at 70+ mph. I slid into the center lane, striking a vehicle on my right rear corner panel. I then repeatedly tried to pump my brakes and turn into the skid to regain control of the vehicle, and each time the wheels locked up again. After failing to regain control of my vehicle I hit the center guard rail, still going 60+ mph, collapsing the whole left side of my vehicle. After skidding to a stop, my "service airbag" warning came up on my center dashboard display, without even deploying. My car has been deemed totaled by insurance, and is no longer safe to drive. I was the only person in the car at the time, and emt's and fire fighters that arrived to the scene said if it weren't for the lack of cars on the road, I may not have survived.
Steering- when making left turns steering collumn pops as if linkage is slipping. Apparently a known defect at Chevrolet. Steering column should be replaced. Loss of power sterring in the past at higher speeds, one complete lockup of steering wheel while vehicle was in motion. Brakes- increasingly difficult over time to slow vehicle to a stop safely. Brakes were completely replaced at 51k miles due to an issue of wear at rates exceeding mechanical estimates. Dealership inspection yields no damages or problem yet test drive shows how difficult vehicle is to stop effectively.
Power steering going out and cannot steer. Power steering will not work after starting the car. 2006 Malibu lt. Purchased new in 2006. Only 40,000 miles on it. Rotors have been replaced twice in first year. When used in mountain driving they warp and have to be replaced.
The 2006 chevy Malibu, that I own, has steering problems where the electric power steering goes off making the car virtually impossible to steer. It has done this 8 to 10 times the last few months. It then resets itself, so I hear. Luckily, so far, it has happened only at low speeds. This car started having this problem at around 50,000 miles. If this happened at high speeds, accidents/deaths could certainly occur. I searched online and see that many Malibu owners have had the same incidence with the steering. My steering is also making a thumping noise at low speed turns. I took my car to the dealership where purchased. They said it would cost $1400 to fix the steering problem. I feel gm should recall these vehicles for safety reasons. The whole steering system in these vehicles are a disaster and these cars should be addressed before someone is seriously hurt. Gm needs to stand behind their vehicles, especially in regards to safety.
Filing a complaint regarding my 2006 chevy Malibu maxx. . . What is a safety-related defect? the united states code for motor vehicle safety (title 49, chapter 301) defines motor vehicle safety as ?the performance of a motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment in a way that protects the public against unreasonable risk of accidents occurring because of the design, construction, or performance of a motor vehicle (the steering column is a genuine gm defective part(s), and against unreasonable risk of death or injury in an accident, and includes nonoperational safety of a motor vehicle. ? a defect includes ?any defect in performance, construction, a component, or material of a motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment. ? generally, a safety defect is defined as a problem that exists in a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment that: poses an risk to motor vehicle safety, and may exist in a group of vehicles of the same design or manufacture, or items of equipment of the same type and manufacture. Examples of defects considered safety-related steering components that break suddenly causing partial or complete loss of vehicle control. * the above listed united state vehicle safety code is the reason for this complaint being file. I understand that chevy used the same column unit in its 2004, 2005 and 2006 Malibu models and all three years are experiencing the same problem. Once odometer reaches a certain mileage reading the steering column electronic assisted steering column fails, it turns off, leaving the driver at the mercy of a manually hard to steer vehicle, in my wife and mine's case it is a metal death trap on the road when making a right hand turn. I have written directly to chevy/gm motor corporation with out recognition of my complaint. This car is a large road safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately. I want chevy to buy my car back of replace this vehicle. Please help!! I don't want to die in this vehicle, nor loose my wife.
I had to replace brakes and rotors twice with in the last year.
