36 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2017

Brake lights illuminating while driving without touching the brakes. When touching the brakes the lights go off and have zero brake lights. The traction control and brake lights on dash will pop up on and off.

37 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

The brake pedal position sensor keeps failing intermittently while in motion, resulting in failed cruise control and reversing my brake lights. When the sensor fails, the cruise automatically turns off, like when the brake pedal is pushed. While actively in motion, the brake lights will turn on as if the pedal is engaged, however the brake lights turn off while actively braking the moving vehicle. The traction control light will be triggered and says "service esc" when the brake pedal position sensor fails. My local chevorlet dealership has been aware of the issue since the summer of 2017, and will not fix it. A complaint was filed with chevorlet directly in July 2019, and was promptly disregarded. The brake pedal position sensor has been replaced over 5 times since 2017.

38 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2017

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While operating the vehicle, the esc and traction control sensors illuminated and the cruise control failed to operate. In addition, the rear brake lights illuminated while driving and turned off when depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that an electrical connector was faulty. The connector was replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the faulty connector was a different connector associated with NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, electrical system, exterior lighting). The failure mileage was 84,325.

39 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the traction control and brake light indicators illuminated. When the brake pedal was depressed, the brake light would not illuminate. However, when the brake pedal was not depressed, the brake light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the pedal sensor assembly was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.

40 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

The electronic stability control and traction control feature malfunctions and shuts off every time I drive the car. Also, the brake lights do not turn on when I apply the brakes with normal pressure. The brake lights do turn on only if a very great abnormal amount of pressure is applied to the brake pedal. Also, occasionally the brake lights turn on when I do not push the brake pedal at all.

41 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

Car was serviced for a 2014 recall because of the brake lights operating in reverse (on when foot is off the brake and off when brake is pressed), problem has returned and I was told that the "fix" that was applied during the recall was just a "band-aid" and that the bcm would have to be replaced. Very unsafe car to drive since the brake lights are telling the drivers behind you that you are not stopping when, in fact, you are stopping. With more and more distracted drivers on the road, who rely on seeing brake lights in their peripheral vision in order to avoid a collision, the danger is increased exponentially. I have contacted gm and was asked "what do you want us to do?", which basically told me that they were unwilling to help me. This needs to fixed before someone is killed or gravely injured.

42 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2017

Brake lights stay illuminated while driving and turns off when brake pedal is engaged. It is also illuminated while the car is running and while idling in park. This happens on a daily basis. There has been no resolution to this issue despite being assessed by a technician on numerous occasions. The esc and traction control lights on cluster constantly stays illuminated as well as the tire sensor indicator. The cruise control malfunctions too. No one ever knows how to repair these issues. I do not have the funds to put into this vehicle any longer. I am afraid to drive this vehicle every time I get in it. It is a danger to all on the roadways when a vehicle's brake system fails in any way. I have no other choice as this is the only vehicle my family owns at this time. From what I have read, gm has multiple vehicles in operation with the same issues. What makes it so bad, the problems date back as far as 2004. How do you keep producing cars with the same issues year after year? are there no repercussions? please help.

44 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

My brake lights are on when I am driving and then when the brakes are pressed the brake lights go off. It's a scary thing because it really confuses the cars behind me.

45 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2016

We own a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu ltz, we have taken it to the dealer to perform a recall for the brake lights coming on by their self and staying on till you touch the brake, then they will go off for 6 seconds then come on again. We took back to the dealer to look at it again and they said it was brake light switch this time. I have read that other people have changed the brake light switch and still had the problem. I also read that the bcm needed to be replaced to correct this problem after the recall was done. The dealer put some dielectric silicone grease on the connector as a band-aid on the real problem. I assume if the bcm needs to be replaced that would cost gm to much money. I know that a lot of people are having this problem and believe it has been going on since 2004 on many different models. Please help us.

46 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2016

My 2010 Malibu lt, had the 13036 recall 11/03/2014 after I received the notice from gm. There were no malfunctions at that time. Now as I speak, the brake lights comes on without me hitting the brake peddle and they all go off when I hit the brakes, when I talked to the dealer they recommend I bring it in and they will try to find out what is causing this. Price range $500. 00-$1250. 00. Now if you look on any gm forum page or just google the situation that I am having, you will find thousands of the same problem. It looks like gm does not have safety in mind after you purchase their vehicles! the 13036 recall has been revised several times, so if you had the recall performed in the early stages, they note your vehicle as completed and send you on your way. I can not drive my car because of this issue- that sucks!!!!! I contacted gm, by email and also left a message last year when the service traction control warning message started. I have not heard from gm. Still no safety recall!!!!.

47 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2016

I purchased this car in September 2016 and not more than two days of owning it my esc lights disabled and my brake lights were stuck on, I brought it into the dealership and they replaced the break pedal sensor, and the lights came on again, I brought it in again and they once again replaced the sensor, this problem has yet to be fixed almost two years later, the esc constantly disables and the brake lights come on and stay stuck I am lucky I have not been in an accident. The dealership I bought it from have failed on several occasions to fix this problem. Now they are telling me I will have to pay for a problem that they never actually fixed. I will be driving and my check traction light will come on and my esc light will say off. You can see by the attached document I originally reported this problem on 9/26/2016, I purchased the car September 24, 2016. . . Two days later and this issue started occurring and now two years later and it is still not fixed.

48 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

Issue started 08/27/16 while 19 year old was driving at night. As the brake pedal is compressed the brake lights go off. While driving they are on. Service traction and esc warnings come on intermittently. I have contacted Chevrolet and have been advised there is not an open recall for this vehicle. A case has been opened with the manufacturer. I have been driving the vehicle several times and have almost been rear ended several times due to this issue. The vehicle is scheduled for inspection and maintenance 09/01/16 at miller and sons Chevrolet. They have been advised of the issue. I have a suspicion this is a recurring issue on a previous recall (14v252000) after seeing some recent complaints from those whom have had the issue fixed the first time. This is the 5 time in 2 months I have had to have this vehicle in the shop. Once for intake and exhaust solenoid replacement. "tapping noises" these ultimately led to a timing chain replacement of which gm covered 800. 00. I had to pay 600. 00. In all I have spent over 900. 00 on this vehicle for repairs which I feel should have been covered under other vehicle recalls. Either fix the existing problems or take the vehicle off the market and buy back.

49 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 55 mph, the brake light illuminated intermittently without the brake pedal being depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 14v250000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage and VIN were not available.

50 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2016

Repairs were completed a couple of years ago on this vehicle from recall id 14v252000, however, my vehicle has recently experienced the similar symptoms as described on the recall. The service traction, service esc and esc off warnings display on the dashboard unpredictably. This happens whether the vehicle is idling or in motion. When the warnings pop up the brake lights are illuminated without depressing the pedal, the brake lights turn off briefly when depressed, however, when the brake pedal is released, the brake lights come back on and remains on. Also when the warnings are displayed, the cruise control disengages, and I'm able to shift out of park without depressing the brake. Turning the key off resets the warnings, but the warnings and symptoms return again - sometimes immediately and other times it may take hours of driving. I'm concerned that the original recall repairs did not correct the problem.

51 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 25 mph, the brake lights illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. In addition, the service air bag error message was displayed across the message board. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,200.

52 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

The original recall for this issue is 13036, this involved the brake lights malfunctioning due to a faulty connector and or connection. Gm instructed their personnel to clean the part, apply corrosive resistant grease to it and reattach. The issue is, this is only a temporary fix and the problem will continue to manifest itself unless the entire housing is replaced (at a cost of almost 600. 00). I took my car for the recall "repair" in sept of 2014, the third week of June 2015 my brake lights started working in reverse order again. This part needs to be replaced, not cleaned. The person at the dealership said as much, telling me that cleaning it would help in the short term but only for a few months, if that. That means that gm is allowing millions of people to drive these cars knowing full well that the brake lighting system is subject to failure, which is very hard for the driver to detect. Please reopen this recall, or open a new one to have this problem fixed correctly, just think of a Malibu with a family in it stopped in traffic on the expressway, the semi coming up behind them doesn't know traffic is stopped because the brake lights are not on, the driver of the Malibu has no clue that their lights are working in reverse order, you can imagine how tragic the ending of that story could be.

53 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

Brake lamp malfunction. Brake lights stay on until brake pedal pushed at which time, brake lights extinguish. Traction control and cruise control also fail. Same vehicle with same issue was previously subject to safety recall 13036. Recall was completed and issue continued. Brake apply sensor was replaced, prior to recall and issue remained. Recall work was completed on 11/15/14. Issues intermittently occur and in June 2016 vehicle taken to gm dealer where brake apply sensor was replaced. Issue still remains as brake lights stay on until pedal pushed, traction control and cruise control failure. A previous complaint was filed with NHTSA regarding this vehicle and above issues prior to recall. Issues occur when vehicle is stationary, and in motion on city streets and interstate highways. More documents available upon request.

54 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving at any speed, the brake lights remained illuminated. When the brake pedal was depressed, the brake lights turned off. The contact stated that "service esc" and "traction control is off " appeared on the instrument panel. Also, the steering and accelerator pedal felt heavy and the vehicle slowed down. The issue recurred numerous times. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control) and was repaired in 2014. The failure recurred. The dealer and manufacturer were notified. The vehicle was not repaired again. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

55 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

Right now I have the service esc and service traction light on again for the 3rd time. I took each time to chevy classic in grapevine TX and they told me no codes the 1st time, took it to clay cooley in irving--light came on then no codes they showed. Today 4-15=16 light came on again and I took it to classic chevy and they found 3 codes this time. They say I will have to pay for this! I should not since there was an open recall on 5/14/2014 for 2010 Malibus. My car is doing this now !@!!@ it needs to be fixed at no charge to me!! I feel like this is the most dangerous car on the road for me and my daughter. I don't want to be a statistic if we have a car crash and it was all because chevy kept making excuses to not fix my crap car for me. The other recall was the brake system not illuminating I got that letter a little too late . Someone rear ended me in oct 2012 while I was stopped at a red light. Maybe those stupid back brake lights were not working then!!!!!! soemone at classic or clay cooolye chevy needs to fix this esc light on my car and fix all the recalls for free. I also have a eps recall letter that was sent to me but someone at chevy told me the light has to come on for them to fix it. This is ridiculous. My car needs to be fixed for all these problems it has no matter if the light is on or not. But the light is on for service esc and traction right now!@ gm or chevy needs to pay for it and fix this car.

56 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2016

Brake lights malfunctions, brake lights will be illuminating when brake is not pressed also gear shifter is difficult to get out of park service esc traction control light comes on this vehicle has been serviced in July 2011, September 2012. August 2013. September 2014, and February 2016 for the same ongoing safety issue. Gm doesn't know how to fix it. There was a recall for this very problem recall # 13036 but once they repair it, they consider the recall closed even though they did not fix the problem.

57 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2016

Esc service light comes on intermittently, brake lights are illuminated 100 % of the time, and cruise control doesn't work. The dealer did the recall a year ago and now I have these issues. Replaced brake position and reprogram for $140 but didn't fix. Dealer now wants to replace abs modulator valve, bcm, and abs control module for 1450.

58 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2015

Center brake light does not consistently light up when prompted by brake pedal. Sometimes it will work, sometimes with a little more effort on the pedal, sometimes not at all. Service esc will also at times come on. Both issues were part of a recall and supposedly fixed. It did work for a while, but started happening again. I don't think the prescribed fix was sufficient.

59 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2015

Car lost control of power steering same time as driver side back brake light went out steering wheel shakes bad when slowing down from 70.

60 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2015

12/4/15 night, dry conditions, expressway: in motion: chime sounded and 2 warnings flash - service esc & service traction. 15 minutes later, - city streets, dry, same issue with esc and traction warning lights going on, plus almost rear ended. Irate driver behind me said my brake lights were out, but they were astonished when the break lights came on while I was outside the car. They asked me to press the pedal - no lights. 20 secs after lifting off the pedal, brake lights on. Major safety issue. Upon driving found brake lights always go off when brake pedal depressed, go on at other times randomly while driving and go off again when brake pedal depressed.

61 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

Brake lights were working in reverse after recall repairs were done so chevy charged me full price for diagnostics because they said that the recall repairs were already done, so there was nothing they could do. We replaced brake switch. A month later problem persisted, chevy dealership charged $50 for relearning brake position, even though that was all supposed to have been fixed in recall repairs. Brake lights are still not working properly and the traction control/esc light is on, and cruise control doesn't work. I am now taking it back to dealership and they are charging me an additional $50 just to take another look at it. I feel I shouldn't be charged for any of this since it all should have been taken care of during the repairs done for recall #: 14v252000. This is a dangerous manufacturing error that gm should be acknowledging and repairing at no cost to the owners. I know I cannot be the only one suffering this issue especially after reading numerous customer complaints online.

62 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

The car has consistent service esc / service traction light warnings that cause multiple problems. The most serious now is that the back brake lights buen constantly as if I'm riding my brakes. It also disengages the traction control. This has gone on for 3 years, 7 repairs and it's now out of warranty. I took it most recently to capitol Chevrolet in austin. They simply replaced the same malfunctioning part again. I have case complaint with gm, but no resolution yet. It occurs now every time I start the car. It used to be intermittent.

63 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2015

I have filed one complaint about this issue, now after having the brake light switch replaced, I am back again. My 2010 chevy Malibu,1g1zb5eb8af149532, the brake lights illuminate when the brake peddle is not engaged. By pressing hard enough on the brakes (which cannot be done when slowing down, or a simple brake), the brake lights do come on. I have had the recall notice on this issue addressed and now have had the brake light switch replaced, this problem is still there. The brake lights do not operate properly and are on when they should be off and vice versa. I have contacted chevy (gm) by chat, email, and phone and still cannot get help on getting this fixed appropriately.

64 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

As I was driving a light came on that said esc, traction, service esc at one point it said traction off. It has happened numerous times sometimes I go to start the vehicle and the light is on and the car will not budge from park and I was stranded for over an hour in the evening all alone. Other time I was driving and the light came on and the brake lights are on the whole time and people were honking at me. My worst time was when I was driving going about 55 on a very dark road with my daughter in the car had about 40 miles to drive to get home and the light came on as I was driving and apparently then I had no brake lights at all ! all the way home no brake lights I was unaware of this until a car drove up on me almost hitting me from behind because he could not see me until he was right on me and I had to swerve over to the next lane to avoid being hit this was a very scary and traumatic incident for my daughter and I! this is beyond dangerous and something needs to be done, when I called the dealership they said their was a recall but that they had fixed it during my last oil change which I was never made aware of but case being if it was "fixed" then why am I still riding in a dangerous vehicle?! one day its okay and the next day I may be on the express way doing 55 hoping not to die due to a faulty system something needs to be done about this issue before someone is seriously hurt! I am disappointed in the way the Chevrolet dealership is just brushing this off as yes it was a recall but we took care of it supposedly so now that's not the problem in their words it's now your problem! I can say that by the way I have been treated and getting the run around and being scared to drive a vehicle that I no longer feel safe in has really really caused me to dislike Chevrolet!.

68 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2015

I have had the recall notice (report receipt date: may 14, 2014 NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 component(s): electrical system , electronic stability control , exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control ) previously taken care of by oakley Chevrolet Buick repair shop about a year ago. The problem has returned , the brake lights do not operate properly (they are on when the brake is not applied & when you apply the brake they go off). I returned the car to the shop and they stated that they could not duplicate that problem, but that it may be the brake apply sensor. They had my car all day, and could not tell me what the problem is. . . . . I picked up my car and now I am trying through gm to get the matter addressed. I have been informed to get a second opinion. Which I will do and I will be in touch. In addition to that issue, now the drivers seat belt chimes that the belt is not in use when it is and the car is driving. Another safety issue.

70 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact received a notice for NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was to attach the wiring harness to the bcm with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the bcm and the harness connector and the bas harness connector, and re-learn the brake pedal home position. The vehicle was repaired under the recall; however, the failure had not occurred until after the recall repair was performed. After the recall was performed, the brake light was continuously illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they stated that the wiring harness for the third brake light needed to be replaced, but the failure had not occurred until after the vehicle was remedied under the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000. The VIN was unavailable.
