general problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

The issue I'm having is the traction light is on and my rear break lights stay on constantly. I took the car to a shop and had the break light switch replaced. Two days later the lights was back on. I did some research and there was a recall for the exact issue I'm have (nhtsa14v252) when I gave the Chevrolet dealership my VIN they said there were no recalls but there was three recalls but they are no longer open. Is there any thing I can do? please help.

The July 14, 2014 recall (13036) describes the issue perfectly. Brake lights come on when gas is pressed, goes off when brake pedal is pressed (very dangerous). Airbag, motor & traction control lights come on, message center says “esc” “traction control”. We have had the car on multiple diagnostic tools saying it’s the module and the electrical isn’t communicating with the module… according to the recall, it is exactly what is happening. We bought the car recently for our new driver not knowing and after hours of research and going to mechanics it seems to be the same recall but this car/VIN is not included in the recall. My child is going to get rear ended because nothing is fixing the issue and this VIN doesn’t have any “recalls”.

This is in reference to gm recall number: 13036 - I noticed that from time to time the service traction warning comes on, service esc warning comes on, my cruise control stops working suddenly. I didn't think anything of it until I finally noticed my brake lights were illuminated in my back window without my foot being on the brake pedal. I replaced the sensor on the brake pedal hoping that would fix it and it did not. I looked up my VIN for active recalls and for some reason it's saying there are none. This is clearly the recall that is listed. I'm worried I'll be driving and someone may either rear end me or get confused thinking I'm braking when I am not. Very unsafe. I'm just unsure what to do. Any help would be appreciated as I need a vehicle and can't be without one.

My 2010 chevy Malibu randomly started having electrical problems a few weeks ago. My gauge cluster lights will not turn on and I cannot see my blinkers or other information I need in the gauge cluster. The gauge cluster lights wont come on so I cannot see how fast I am going at night. The brake lights illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed. The car is difficult to get out of park. After researching the problems I found that gm has issued recalls for the bcm on Chevrolet Malibus recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured may 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012. I then contacted my local chevy dealership and they told me my vehicles VIN does not fall under the recall they issued so I would have to pay to have the problems addressed. I explained to the dealership that this is a well known issue and how unsafe that it is and they then told me “there is nothing we do about it. ”. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle and I feel that these issues that it is having will put my life at risk and others because these malfunctions will obviously increase the risk of a crash. I feel that it is wrong to have a customer pay for repairs on a part of a vehicle that has recalls and is a crucial safety component.

Brake lights stay on when not even pressing the brake pedal. This causes cruise control to shut off too. Sometimes "service esc" and "traction control" light will come on randomly too. Had taken it to chevy dealership multiple times to have this issue fixed but problems seems to come back after a few months.

It would turn on and go off by itself at random spurts, which was very unusual. • no, the problem has not been reproduced by another dealer. • the vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer’s service department. As well as, not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. • no it just randomly had a warning light one day when I got in it to crank it like a normal day. But never warned me before hand, but when it did come on, but it appeared on the dashboard indicating a power steering issue, and abs and brake warning light. The abs and brake warning light first appeared about two weeks before the complete failure of the system. Which I became without a vehicle for about 3 months because of it.

Brake lights stay on while driving but turn off when braking, engine and traction control lights come on, car acts like it's going to die. This happens intermittently and sometimes without any warning lights. I noticed this again most recently within the last week and several times on 2/25/23. Vehicle has not yet been inspected but was previously taken in for the same issue in 2020. Dealership stated that since the lights weren't staying on and no codes were stored, they weren't required to make repairs. It goes without saying that driving with faulty lights can cause an accident and is also illegal. It is highly irresponsible of gm not to repair this known issue and of NHTSA not to issue a recall.

Brake lights come on as soon as you start the car. Go off when press the brake pedal. Its like they are reversed or something.

I was driving the car safely as always and within the speed limits and an officer was heading the same direction, the brake lights got me cited for mechanical repairs. I have noticed the brake lights work yet they do not work with light pressure on the brake pedal. The officer gave a warning about brake lights and it has to be repaired ASAP. What explanation might there be for the brake light? what should I ask the mechanic to look for?.

The brakes are doing the same thing that was recalled and repaired back in 2014. They are illuminating while driving down the road and turn off while I hit the brakes. I have been pulled over several times and cannot get my car inspected without getting this corrected. I have bought several parts trying to repair this but the parts are not correcting the problem. Cruise control, stability control and sever other functions are not working either all of them are related to the same recall issued back in 2014. Is there any kind of warranty on the recall that was repaired?.

Air bag light randomly pop on . Electrical system is so bad that I only have 1 head light and it’s very dangerous driving at night like that .

I purchased the car for my mother on 10/20/2015 from mike savoie Chevrolet in troy, mi. At the time I had a concern because there was a message being displayed on the car “service esc”, I was informed by the dealer that it was a false message and there was no issue with the car, we should just disregard but if we had any problems to let him know moving forward. At that time we did not have issues with anything else. There was about 80,000 miles on the odometer when we bought it, there are only about 95,300 now. Recently the brake lights have been coming on when the brakes are not applied, we have taken the car to a mechanic three times for this issue but he has been unable to duplicate it, as a result he felt that the brake pedal sensor was at fault and replaced it, but the issue still exists, a wasted $200! my 17 year old grandson is now using the car, the issue occurred again today and I discovered that this issue may be associated with a recall which also includes the “service esc” message which has been on the car since I bought it. However, when I enter the VIN it shows no open recalls. Apparently it was not fixed and the dealer should have fixed it before I bought it or I should have been notified of the recall. I am very concerned about my grandson’s safety and will need to switch my car with him so that he can be as safe as possible! not only do the brake lights come on when not applied, but you need to tap the brake to turn them off at that point other drivers are not aware that the brake is being applied. Taking the car back to the repairman today. Please help. Thank you very much for your time and attention to this matter.

My 3rd brake light works intermittently. I have bought my car just over a year ago from a pre-owned dealership.

Brake lights sometimes they work sometimes they don't yes but they say the recall is 500 miles out of the recall miliage none of these have inspected it since I owned car yes service esc service transaction.

Recently I was almost rear-ended a few times and got curious as to why?? well yesterday I was following my 2010 chevy Malibu in another car and noticed that my brake lights stay on when I'm driving and go off when I brake. Very dangerous! I have read other complaints regarding this issue and I think a recall needs to be issued on these cars. It had also disabled my cruise control.

Brake lights illuminate without being pressed. Service esc and service traction control lights intermittently comes on. Dealer said recall issues has already been fixed.

The power steering control locks up the steering system. The brakes pulsates when stopping cause losing traction. Esc control is off. Making the vehicle not drive-able.

I currently have 2 open recalls and was never sent out notices for either, I am currently 15 weeks pregnant so that's a safety concern with me because they can both result in a crash.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle unintentionally accelerated and then slowed down. The esc and traction control warning indicators were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to kramer tire (6628 providence rd, virginia beach, va 23464, (757) 346-5739) where the front brakes and rotors were replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the passenger side cv joint was replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.

On the highway going 65 mph, the engine shut off without warning but the battery/electronics were still on. I safely stopped the car on the side of the road. The check engine + abs + traction control lights came on simultaneously. The car would not start. I finally had to call a tow company. No mechanic knows how to fix it. Upon further research, many owners of the same make model and model year range suffered similar situations. The car still won't start till now.

Traction control light continues to come on. When this happens the brakes malfunction illuminates when I'm not pressing the brakes and goes out when I do. Disables cruise control. Replaced body control module 6 months ago to correct these issues still having the same problem very unsafe.

While driving down the road, the cluster panel starts showing warning lights for the steering, service esc, and the mil light was on, the car lost power, lost power steering and had no power, no matter what I did, the car would not respond. This putting my family and me in danger, we were driving on the idl in tulsa oklahoma at rush hour, very, very busy road at that time of day. I have researched the problem, this is a very serious issue that will end up getting someone killed. The car is completely unstable, erratic and very hard to drive, you lose power (no acceleration) and power steering. The car has 142,000 miles on it, that seems to be when it happening to other vehicles also.

On 12. 06. 2018 the power steering code c0454. Last year Nov. 2018, it was the timing chain, then the esc, which is still unresolved , then I had to put in a new transmission.

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 50 mph, the brake indicator illuminated independently. In addition, the service traction control warning indicator illuminated and the cruise control became inoperable. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired on February 19, 2015 per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control); however, the failure recurred twice. Jeff wyler springfield Chevrolet (located at 2237 w 1st st, springfield, OH 45504, (937) 525-4646) was notified. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided case number: 8-4817694931. The approximate failure mileage was 163,000.

Vehicle can shift from park to drive without brake being applied.

The stop lamps come on all by themself, if the lamps are illuminated they will turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. This also affects the traction controls and stability control, the warning light illuminates on the instrument panel. Also cruise control becomes inoperative. Gm has acknowledged this and has an extended warranty for this problem. However they've capped it at 150,000 miles which puts me out of warranty. When I spoke to gm they admitted this and said because I wasn't the original owner I wouldn't be notified. They don't want to help!.

My tail lights come on without pressing the pedal and they do not come on, when the pedal is pressed. Very, very close to being rear ended. All roads and at all speeds. Cruise control is also affected. Esc light has come on. Very dangerous situation. Nhtsa says there is a recall, Chevrolet says there is not.

Service esc, service traction, picture of car skidding, tires need air and picture of tire that looks flat keeps coming up on my panel. This never happened prior to having new tires and brakes put on my car at hendrix Chevrolet in durham, nc. I only have 40+ thousand miles on my car. At 20,000 my right front rotar and brakes had to be replace because it was roaring and I literally had to have it towed to my home. I bought the car new when my son worked at hendrix (thought it was a good idea). He wasn't working there when this happened but he fixed it and then hendrix said they could not reimburse me because he wasn't a current employee. I love my car but have had nothing but problems with it! please let me know what to do to get the first issues I mentioned corrected! I'm getting different answers from everyone I talk too. I see many people on the internet are complaining of the same problem with their Malibu as well!.

While in motion, my 2010 chevy Malibu ltz has been intermittently giving me a "service traction" "esc off" notice and the cruise control is also working intermittently.

Takata recall the breaks are coming on when the break is not engaged and when the break light is engaged it doesn't come on. I have been to get a break light switched out twice and still having the same problem. Over and over and the service traction light also seems to keep coming on and they cannot figure out why. I am wasting money because no one can seem to figure I they problem. This is a very serious dangerous problem and needs to be under recall.

I was travelling about 25-30mph started to skid (yes it was icy) lightly tapped the brakes then all of a sudden the steering locked up and the brakes also. All I could do was let go and hope for the best. Ending up hitting a fed ex van and pge truck with a snow plow. There is a police report and the car ended up getting totalled. I had only made one payment on it. Insurance claim# 003379048000000016001 usaa , airbag did not deploy.

My service esc/traction light comes on and the brakes comes o without being pressed, this doesn't happen all the time. I have had it looked at and the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. I have researched my VIN and there are no recalls, however I have noticed that the brake issue has been recalled on Malibu's before. The brake comes on randomly while I am driving so does the esc light, on various surfaces.

On Aug 19th, I went to dealer in dulles to look for a car posted as private, but any how, I ended up buying chevy because dealer explained me the cars good features and misled me about the previous cars condition as the carfax shows it was haildamaged, used as rental, and it has a open recall. Without informing me about the open recall or anything else, the dealer sold me this car without showing me carfax, as I asked carfax, he showed me minor part of minor in his phone and misled and lied to me and sold this car. I drove for almost 3 week and went to Toyota dealership and found out it had open recall, haildamaged, and used as rental, but the dealer didnt disclose me anything. When I went to return this car, then dealer named chris said it doesnt have to disclose anything. Note, eventhough, it might be safety concern like that open recall. I am tired of driving this car with a open recall for almost one and half month, and I don't like this car and want to return to a dealer because he lied and misled about the condition of the car and endanger mine and my family life without even informing me about the recall. Please kindly take a concrete measure, so that dealers this are not misleading and lieing about the car's condition. I filed complaint in consumer protection too and they mentioned about transportation safety administration. Please kindly help me.

As I pulled out from work, I noticed that as the car should have been going into second or third gear, the rpm's just revved. I was heading down a hill at the time, and when it got to around 30-35 mph, the gear caught (thank goodness because it was starting to get a bit scary at that moment) and was able to be driven like normal. I had a few stop lights along the way home, and each time that I came to a complete stop and then started driving, the same thing would occur. As I got home, I called the nearest dealership, david stanley Chevrolet here in oklahoma city, to make an appointment to have it looked at. It sat in the garage for the duration of the weekend, and then I took it in this morning (Monday Aug. 22nd) for my appointment. As I was driving from my house to the dealership (around 8 miles) I noticed that it had gotten worse. A few times on the trip I did not think that it was going to make it the whole way there and then about a mile or so from the dealership, the check engine light came on. Later, I had to go in reverse after I arrived and found that the car would not shift into reverse. I dropped it off to have them do the diagnostic on it for $120. As I got home, my wife and I did some research on our car, trying to figure out what it might be while the diagnostic was taking place. I have to say that I was shocked by what I found. Website after website with comments from other chevy Malibu owners ranging from 2000, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 describing the exact same issues I was having. All describing a "broken 35r wave plate" that results in a "loss of reverse gear, slipping or harsh 3rd or 5th gear shift". .

I have repeatedly filed complaints with gm that my service air bag light stays on / my breaklight located in back window works opposite of what it is supposed to. I am notifing you in writing that gm has not done anything to help me. I guess if my air bag expolodes while im driving and I kill some folks in an accident I just want you to be aware.
