While driving the cruise control will be set and all of a sudden turn off. The gauges on the dash would sporatically jump up and down and sometimes flatline as if the car was off. When braking the cruise control would engage if my hand pressed the button llocated on the steering wheel causing the vehicle to speed up while trying to slow down. The brake lights would be on while driving without pressing the brakes and would turn on once brakes were pressed. Recall work was reported to be completed January 2015 but problems still persist. There is also a bulletin for special coverage that is limited to 150,000 miles which I don't recieve because my vehicle is over that mileage but the dangers of the vehicle still persist. These problems have been present since I purchased the car 2 or 3 years ago. The last incident happened just 2 days ago. I cantacted chevy and they said they couldn't cover it because of the miles.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the rear brake light remained illuminated. Additionally, while driving and while depressing the brake pedal, the rear brake lights would fail to illuminate as needed. The vehicle was taken to spitzer Chevrolet (33 e aurora rd, northfield, OH 44067) who attached the wiring harness to the bcm with a spacer and applied di-electric lubricant to the bcm and harness connector however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was repaired for the same failure several times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,281.
Exterior brake lights come on & cruise control shuts off. When in motion.
The brake lights illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed. The brake lights fail to illuminate when the brake pedal is pushed. This has been an on going problem and we only realize it still exists when one of our family is following the 2010 Malibu in another car. We had brought the vehicle in to a Chevrolet service center in the past and were charged for a "repair". When we again noticed the problem we brought the vehicle into a firestone service center and they charged us for a "repair". We just noticed the problem again and now are afraid to drive the vehicle. A search of the VIN shows no unrepaired recalls so we are not sure if the original owner had already brought it in (we are the second owner) or if this particular VIN was not thought to be affected. Regardless, it sounds like a known problem and we are hoping not to have to pay a third time and then still have an issue. Please let us know our options. Thank you in advance.
The 3rd brake light comes on and off.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle brake lights would flash without depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the esc and tcm service warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Service eas warning light comes on. Then the rear brake lights stay on. The service power steering warning light comes on & the car is very hard to control & nearly impossible to steer. This is extremely dangerous & unsafe.
I dropped my 2010 Malibu (1g1zb5eb1af245129) off at matick chevy on 1/10/2020. I called 1/11/2020 and was told there was no charge and it was ready for pick up. That's all I was told. I didn't make it home before the same problem occurred: service traction error light on the dash board and all 3 brake lights are on - when no one is pressing on the brake. The car is in the garage and all 3 brake lights are on - no one is in the vehicle. . . I'm driving down the highway and all 3 brake lights are on - I'm not braking. This is a serious safety concern. Today is 1/19/2020 and I still don't have my vehicle and have not received a call - despite leaving a message for the service mgr, mike, on 1/16/19. He advised that this vehicle is covered under a special warranty program or policy - 150,000 miles or the year 2025. The vehicle is 10 years old - dealerships don't fix anything for free, so that "special program" is indicative of the company taking responsibility and knowing that you have a problem with this vehicle. I have owned gm products all my life and for the first time do not know if my loyalty to the manufacturer or brand will continue. I am very disappointed in the way this situation has been handled. The vehicle have been serviced for this same problem twice previously. The only saving grace is that I demanded a loaner. Please help.
The high-mount brake light will light (and stay lit) without the brake being depressed. When the brake is depressed using normal force to slow the car, the light will go off. When the brake is depressed further as if to stop the vehicle, the light comes back on. This behavior is intermittent.
Brake lights remain on while pedal's not activated, and turn off when pedal is pressed. Esc and traction error messages appear while driving, usually when coming to a complete stop at any given time. The lighting issue seems to coincide with the appearance of said error messages.
The brake lights illuminate and stay on while driving when the brake pedal is not pressed. The brake lights turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. The car routinely displays "service esc" and " service traction" messages.
Hello, my car is having the issues described in recall number 13036, my brake lights turn on while not pressing the brake and sometimes when braking do not turn on at all. My VIN # says that my car was not included however my car is experiencing the issues described. This all happens when the car is driving.
Brake light constantly fluctuating without the brake being pressed, very dangerous for me and my child, headlights constantly going out specifically the front passenger side, almost go cause an accident and people thing I'm the one pressing the brakes, it does this when driving or when it parked, if I tap the brake it'll go off for a few second then come right back on. Also car keep throwing a code saying it's running rich even tho I can locate the problem I believe it has something to do with a senseor or wiring or the fuel injector, if there are any recalls for this vehicle I would lie for them to be fix all at once because I have to use this card daily for myself and my daughter and I just want it to be safe for my child and I as well as other drivers in the road.
Brake lamp recall for these models do not work. I noticed the issue recently while driving home from work at around 55 mph at night. My brake lights are on, while my foot is off of the brake pedal. When I place my foot on the brakes, the brake lights go off. This is a serious driving hazard. I've taken the car to get the recall handled, but noticed this morning, that my brake lights are still illuminating when my foot is off the brake pedal.
The brake lights are engaged while driving the car and disengage when braking causing a serious safety hazard for not only he driver but others following behind. Because the brake lights are on while driving following cars crash detection systems engage. This has been going on for quite awhile. It was "fixed" by a Chevrolet dealership once already but it is back. Huge concern for my 17 year old driving the car.
Headlight connection overheats making headlight go out. Abs control locks brakes durring normal driving. Rear brake lights engage while driving without pressing on brake.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving at an unknown speed, the rear brake lights remained illuminated. When the brake pedal was pressed, the rear brake lights would shut off and not illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (coggin Chevrolet, 10880 philips hwy, jacksonville, FL) where the battery pack control module was replaced, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (exterior lighting:brake lights) in 2014 for the same failure, but the failure recurred. The failure mileage was 99,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving various speeds, the brake lights remained illuminated. When the brake pedal was depressed, the brake lights would not illuminate. In addition, the electronic stability control and traction warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 129,642.
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while stationary, the third brake light (high center mounted lamp assembly) failed to illuminate. Karl Chevrolet of ankeny, iowa located at 1101 se oralabor rd, 50021 (515) 299-4300 was made aware of the failure, but the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 8-433-300-9105. The failure mileage was approximately 56,900. Ad.
Headlights won't work brand new lightbulbs dashboard lights dim is outcontrol transaction turns on brake light turns on without touching the brakes they basically stay on and more.
Complete loss of power steering , while drivng , steering wheel constantly shaking by itself. Also replacing headlights an brake lights every couple months.
I've had electrical problems with my car since I bought it. The dealer has never been able to fix it because my car never showed any "codes". My car has acceleration problems, the right head light socket harness keeps burning out and I'm also starting to have problems with my brake lights. My brake lights don't go on when I press on my brake and when I do they sometimes stay on after I take my foot off the brake. The acceleration problem happens on a full stop and on the highway. I usually give my self extra space to accelerate because my car fails at times. In the highway my car sometimes struggles to catch up to speed with the other cars. This problem has almost cause and accident several times.
Brake lights stay all the time. Service traction light on. Service cvs light on.
Was recently made aware (numerous times in the last few weeks) that when driving down the road my brake lights are not working properly. At times when not applying the brakes the brake lights are on acting as if I was breaking and when I brake the brake lights turn off (so in other words it is reversed). Around the same time that this began to have likely started occurring the following warning lights began to appear; "esc" and service traction" (I do not know if there is any relation between the brake lights and noted warning lights). I do not feel safe driving the vehicle especially with my family in it as the brake lights are not giving other drivers around me the appropriate indication of what my vehicles intentions are. The brake light problem has been occurring, when in motion, stationary, highway and city street. Potentially parts that may require replacement or repair; body control module (bcm), bas, and harness connector.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While operating the vehicle, the esc and traction control sensors illuminated and the cruise control failed to operate. In addition, the rear brake lights illuminated while driving and turned off when depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that an electrical connector was faulty. The connector was replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the faulty connector was a different connector associated with NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, electrical system, exterior lighting). The failure mileage was 84,325.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the traction control and brake light indicators illuminated. When the brake pedal was depressed, the brake light would not illuminate. However, when the brake pedal was not depressed, the brake light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the pedal sensor assembly was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.
Car was serviced for a 2014 recall because of the brake lights operating in reverse (on when foot is off the brake and off when brake is pressed), problem has returned and I was told that the "fix" that was applied during the recall was just a "band-aid" and that the bcm would have to be replaced. Very unsafe car to drive since the brake lights are telling the drivers behind you that you are not stopping when, in fact, you are stopping. With more and more distracted drivers on the road, who rely on seeing brake lights in their peripheral vision in order to avoid a collision, the danger is increased exponentially. I have contacted gm and was asked "what do you want us to do?", which basically told me that they were unwilling to help me. This needs to fixed before someone is killed or gravely injured.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving various speeds, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the brake lights failed to illuminate. The brake lights activated after a few seconds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a technician found a damaged terminal behind the bcm. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 195,141.
I get the service esc alert and when I brake, my brake lights don't light up but when I'm not braking, they do not light up. This has been happening for at least two years off and on.
Issue started 08/27/16 while 19 year old was driving at night. As the brake pedal is compressed the brake lights go off. While driving they are on. Service traction and esc warnings come on intermittently. I have contacted Chevrolet and have been advised there is not an open recall for this vehicle. A case has been opened with the manufacturer. I have been driving the vehicle several times and have almost been rear ended several times due to this issue. The vehicle is scheduled for inspection and maintenance 09/01/16 at miller and sons Chevrolet. They have been advised of the issue. I have a suspicion this is a recurring issue on a previous recall (14v252000) after seeing some recent complaints from those whom have had the issue fixed the first time. This is the 5 time in 2 months I have had to have this vehicle in the shop. Once for intake and exhaust solenoid replacement. "tapping noises" these ultimately led to a timing chain replacement of which gm covered 800. 00. I had to pay 600. 00. In all I have spent over 900. 00 on this vehicle for repairs which I feel should have been covered under other vehicle recalls. Either fix the existing problems or take the vehicle off the market and buy back.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 55 mph, the brake light illuminated intermittently without the brake pedal being depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 14v250000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage and VIN were not available.
Nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 impacted this vehicle and the vehicle was serviced in accordance with the recall at a Chevrolet dealership. 14v252000 states: "in the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the body control module (bcm) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the brake apply sensor (bas) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; . . . " when driving behind the vehicle while my wife was driving it I noticed the brake lights were on when my wife was driving and seemed to go off when she would have pressed on the brakes. When a Chevrolet dealer was contacted and I explained the condition was consistent with the recall symptoms, I was told it was already fixed and any further work would cost money. After researching the "fix" in the recall I checked the electrical connection at the bcm. It did have dielectric gel applied to the bdm where the cable connected so repair was done. After removing and inserting the cable several times to remove any corrosion at the electrical connection as described in the recall, and putting it back together myself, the problem hasn't returned yet. However, the condition of having brake lights reversed is extremely dangerous and there was no indication of the problem, initially. Before I re-applied the fix I did discover that the cruise control wouldn't engage when the condition was present (it was a frequent condition but wasn't always there). There were no other indications the brake lights were reversed other than looking at the lights from outside the vehicle. My concern is that gm's fix might be flawed as the recall condition recurred on my vehicle after the designated fix was performed at the gm dealership, causing risk to us and other vehicle owners.
Bcm issue resulting in brake lights not working properly. Brakes lights are on when brake is not applied, and go off when brake is applied. Brake light goes on after car reaches a speed of 15 mph. Recall prior replaced the harness in 2014, but now chevy dealer is saying this is not related, yet it is the same symptoms of original recall back in 2014. The recall repair in 2014 seems to have been a band-aid on what could lead to a serious accident and loss of a life if not repaired correctly. Customers should not be responsible for repair of a known issue that gm only put a temporary fix on but never solved the entire problem.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 25 mph, the brake lights illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. In addition, the service air bag error message was displayed across the message board. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,200.
Brake lamp malfunction. Brake lights stay on until brake pedal pushed at which time, brake lights extinguish. Traction control and cruise control also fail. Same vehicle with same issue was previously subject to safety recall 13036. Recall was completed and issue continued. Brake apply sensor was replaced, prior to recall and issue remained. Recall work was completed on 11/15/14. Issues intermittently occur and in June 2016 vehicle taken to gm dealer where brake apply sensor was replaced. Issue still remains as brake lights stay on until pedal pushed, traction control and cruise control failure. A previous complaint was filed with NHTSA regarding this vehicle and above issues prior to recall. Issues occur when vehicle is stationary, and in motion on city streets and interstate highways.
