1 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2020

Steering gets hard to maneuver while driving all lights come on on the dashboard and have to stop and reset vehicle, headlights work when they want to. I was driving on a highway when my steering got hard to use. I had to get on the shoulder and reset the battery, in order to get home safely.

2 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2020

The headlights keep breaking. The right side more often. I see these Malibu's on the road all the time with a headlight out. It's expensive to replace and shouldn't happen as often as it does.

3 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2020

Within a year I have had to have the headlight bulbs in my 2010 chevi Malibu replaced 7 times. That is insane! it is time consuming, expensive and unexceptional. The replacement is no easy fix as the bumper and wheel cover have to be removed to get access. This is extremely frustrating and needs a recall to fix this once for all.

4 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2020

I have had to replace my passenger and drivers side headlights for the 5th time in the last 3 years. Just replaced the passenger headlight last week and exactly a week later, it is back out on the same side, 6th time. In the past, I've had both replaced when one blows out because of how you have access the headlights, the car repair shops charges me $180 and up. Imagine me having to doing this that much because it is mandatory to get repaired. I can not drive with one headlight or none. One blows and a few months later the other blows or the same. It is hard to tell exactly at what point it happens because at times you just don't know it is out until someone calls you or a kind driver let's you know. I found out this last time by pulling into my garage and seeing the dim glare on the front wall as I was pulling in. There are lots of others with this problem in the google search for a resolution. People have tried several options for repairs and no luck. This must be recalled. The 2010 chevy Malibu design to repair the headlight makes it highly inconvenient for my pockets due to the cost of labor. Many shops have refused servicing me because of the amount of time it takes to get to the headlight by taking off the bumper and the number of screws to be removed etc. I have had to miss work, go in late or leave early to get my headlight/s replaced. Totally unacceptable and unlucky being an owner of this vehicle.

5 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I have a 2010 chevy Malibu and the passenger headlight keeps going out. Not burning out, but quits working! I have gone to change the bulb and we realized that it wasn't burnt out. All the other lights on that side work fine. We wiggles some wires and it would work again. A few times we could tap on the headlight assembly and it would come back on. So we put it together again and it worked fine for 2 weeks or so before it went out again.

6 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2020

The passenger side low beam headlight has gone out 3 times in the past 2 years. The fuse was not blown any of the three times.

7 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2020

Low beam headlights comes on and off. While attempting to drive at night the driver side light would not come on. The next morning it came on. A few days later the passenger side light would not come on. Now both lights won't come on. I am only drive during daylight hours until they are replaced.

8 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

The low beam headlights keep going out. The bulbs are not burning out. It's something in the elecrical that's causing this. It's very dangerous to drive at night because both headlights have gone off all of a sudden while driving down the road. I believe this is a huge safety concern & chevy needs to figure out what's going on & have a fix for it. After reading on a bunch of forums, this is a huge problem with these vehicles. After getting the bulbs to work, they only work for about 2 weeks then go out again. This questionnaire wants me to put in a date that this happened but it happens all the time for the last 4 years, so I'll just put in the most recent date.

9 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

I have a 2010 chevy Malibu and the passenger headlight keeps going out. Not burning out, but quits working! I changed the bulb about 5 times before I realized that it wasn't burning out. All the other lights on that side work fine. A few times I could tap on the headlight assembly and it would come back on. I took it apart and found that the plastic connector was broken and shorted out, so I ordered a new wiring harness that goes from the ground wire split to the headlight assembly, put it together and it worked fine for 2 days and went out again. I took the front end off agian and unplugged the bulb and plugged it back in and it works fine again. I have checked all the wires and the ground screw and can't find a problem. This continues to happen. I have also looked this up and a large number of people are having issues with this from 2009-2012 chevy Malibu.

10 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2019

Passenger side headlights have repeatedly gone out for the 7 yrs I have owned this car. I have changed the headlights at least once every 3-4 months. I have searched forums/messageboards related to car problems and this is a widely known problem with this model. To make matters worse, the bumper needs to be removed to replace the light which I can not do myself and I have to take it to a servicing shop which is very expensive. Here is a webpage dedicated to the issues. . Read more...

11 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2019

The passenger side low beam keeps going out, even after repeatedly replacing headlight. Just yesterday, the driver side went out too so no low beams usable currently. My reading has brought me to the conclusion that in 2008-2012 chevy Malibus, the daytime running lights are pulling voltage from the low beams which is increasing the amperage in the low beams which is causing overheating and therefore the bulbs and connectors to go out repeatedly.

12 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2019

My passenger side headlight wont stay on. When it died I went to replace it and it turned on so I went to put it back together and it turned off again, so I took it back a part. I went through that a few times before giving up.

18 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

My 2010 chevy Malibu has been having issues involving my headlights. I recently had them changed twice and now about a month and half later they are out again. Every now and then I can tap on them and they will come on. I just checked this morning to see if they work and neither one of them will turn on. This issue needs to be recalled because I can't even drive at night at this point! I do not want a ticket and having my bulbs replaced every month is costly. Everyone wants to charge 100+ to change the bulbs. If I knew I would be having this constent problem, I would have never bought a chevy!.

19 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2019

I have replaced my passenger headlights several times and blub keeps blowing out. I am tired of replacing it and very costly because of the labor it takes to replace it. All of sudden my power steering went out. I was pulling out of a parking stall and lost control of the car. I was able to put it back in drive to get the car out of the way. When I turned it off and restarted the car it drove normal. This is very dangerous.

26 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2018

My right front headlight (regular low beam) keeps going out and having to be replaced. My mechanic replaced it in July of this year, and again in October, and it is out yet again, not even two months later. My mechanic can't find any reason for it. In addition, my service air-bag light is on, although it's never gone off, and the entire transmission had to be replaced at about 63,000 miles. Regarding the light - so far, I've been lucky that it hasn't contributed to any kind of accident, especially since deer are very active at this time of year and are very common in our area.

27 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2018

Takata recall. My passenger headlights on the low beam setting keep going out. I changed my lightbulb two months ago and it has already gone out. I saw that it went out a few weeks ago but when I was going to get someone to change it, thinking the the shop gave me a bad bulb, the headlight came back on. The same thing happened last week also the light was out and I hit a bump in the road and I heard my car click like the lights were coming on when I stopped I noticed both low beam lights were on again. Currently my passenger low beam headlight is not working, all other lights are working fine.

33 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2018

I think the Malibu has the same problem as the corvettes had the light has done went out 8 times since my husband got the car in March and he has to take the wheel off and the placsic under pinning by the wheel off and unconnect the head light and connect it again and it comes back on. And sometimes if he just smacks the light it will start working again but not always it's the low beam on the passenger side I have seen this problem with many years of the years of this model car but hears what I think the problem is like I said that the corvettes had electrical center under the hood that may expand due to the extreme engine heat and when this electrical connection expands and contracts over and over, it is prone to breaking. When that happens, the low beam headlights will fail to function. I would imagine that the fix involves adding some sort of heat insulation to this electrical center to either protect the whole unit from the heat or to prevent the consistent expansion under high temperatures. So can y'all please look in to it for the safety of my family and we don't want no tickets and it's annoying taking it a part bc it won't work.

34 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2018

And now I don't know how I am going to fix this.

35 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2018

Front passenger headlight has gone out again. This bulb has been replaced numerous times. In reviewing several different websites, this problem is reported repeatedly, even with comments of gm mechanic stating there is an issue with the harness but gm is not recalling it. I pray that a child never runs out into the street and gets hit by a car as a result of the driver not being able to see on the right hand side of their car because gm does not want to pay to fix this known issue with the harness and the constant complaints they are aware. .
