general problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

I submitted a complaint regarding traction service/escape alerts at any given time of my 2010 chevolet malbu and have not received an acknowledgment of my complaint. Therefore I am hoping it has been resolved. Thank goodness, ithe car passed inspection on 10/17/2023 for which the complaint of the traction service alerts have affected my yearly inspection for at least 3 years. I purchase the 2010 chevy Malibu, 6/2013. The service traction lights comes on periodically until I am forced to take it in for service. I had to take the car in for this same problem at least 4 times, more or less, also the last time I took the car in, the technician was not able to reset the sensors. A more seasoned tech had to reset the sensors. I am filing a report, because this cost me money every time I take it to the dealer and it is certain a safety issue for me to continue to drive the car with the service traction light coming on and off and stationary at times. It appears to be a defect in the auto system. I should not be required to have to take the car in every year for the same problem and putting myself and others at risk. Hattie overman 718-320-8254.

I had just left the gas station after filling up with gas I came to a stoplight and when I went to take off from a stop the car started sputtering and only going at very low power I turned the car around and noticed there was a tick in the steering wheel and it moved back and forth the steering became hard to turn as I lost my power steering then the car shut off when I started the car again it was still running at half power I managed to make it back to the house and upon restarting the car it was stuck in limp mode and was displaying power steering and electronic stability control lots on the dash after resetting the codes it runs properly but then kicks back into limp mode and loses steering ability of the electronic assist.

Steering gets hard to maneuver while driving all lights come on on the dashboard and have to stop and reset vehicle, headlights work when they want to. I was driving on a highway when my steering got hard to use. I had to get on the shoulder and reset the battery, in order to get home safely.

While commuting to work from home on a main intersection a power reduction occurred causing the vehicle to lose power, speed, and the abilities to function normally close to work I parked in the nearest parking lot and scheduled a repair at a automotive shop. . . After inspecting it a mechanic replaced throttle body, gas pedal and air intake hose costing $860. . Upon pickup about 5 minutes into driving a power reduction still occured upon reinspection and no codes in a diagnostic check my mechanic informed me he wasn't able to solve the problem. . . I than had the car towed to a local chevy dealership who than ran a diagnostic check and did a few minor repairs and a cluster instrument coming out to $910. . Upon pickup from certified dealer a power reduction again reoccurring I had to pay a extra $100 to have it towed back to the dealer ship for repair for it being extremely dangerous to transport it manually feeling the headache and the pain of costly repairs for a problem without a definite possible way of repairing I feel its a safety issue that has been over looked by gm chevy now knowing the story of the power reducing in many gm vehicles I forsure would never recommend this auto maker.

Service eas warning light comes on. Then the rear brake lights stay on. The service power steering warning light comes on & the car is very hard to control & nearly impossible to steer. This is extremely dangerous & unsafe.

When driving it the transmission don't kick in until you get pass 30 miles and then it's doing everything that you have a recall on some of the other 2010 chevy Malibu just trying to see why my VIN number hasn't been recall. I have to put my emergency lights own sometime so I won't be in a reck getting my grandkids to and from school I fear for our safety but this is my only transportation so if you can pleas check and see if I have a recall on my VIN number it would please be appreciate sign a caring grandmother trying to keep her family safe 🙏🏽🙏🏽.

I purchased the car from crest auto mall and 1 week later the suspensions gets messed up and then 1 month later the engine blows up now my car is parked in the driveway!.

Esc , traction control lights come on. Then rear brake lights work opposite of standard brake light design. The rear brake lights come on while driving. When brake pedal is depressed, the brake lights turn off. This has been going on for two years now. The dealership just patches the repair. The repair only lasts a few weeks.

I buy a bulb every other week or month for my headlights on the passenger side keeps going out.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle unintentionally accelerated and then slowed down. The esc and traction control warning indicators were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to kramer tire (6628 providence rd, virginia beach, va 23464, (757) 346-5739) where the front brakes and rotors were replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the passenger side cv joint was replaced, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.

While driving at 60mpg car rpg dropped to nothing, couldn't use the accelerator. Able to move to the side of the road. Got it going again then not even 5 mins later car started shaking badly, couldn't use the accelerator, pulled over. Dash flashes with esc. Service, traction control, engine reduced and check engine light comes on. This problem has been on going for well over a year. Has nothing to do with colder months, first time it happened it was September. Went out today to warm up my car as it was iced and snowed over, while cleaning it off it was fine. Came back inside to finish getting ready to go and when I came out to my car, it was shaking, rpm was bouncing between 1-3, all the notices were on the dash again. Took it for a drive around the block to see if it would resolve, couldn't get it to go above 15 mpg. I've taken it to numerous garages to get looked at, its always something different. One "fixed" the engine, another did an oil change and filter change, one changed the alternator, etc. Everytime I take it somewhere they "fix" it for it to run for a week or so at a time til this happens again. Luckily it has not caused any accidents but I will not drive it in this condition. Been told its an electrical problem as well but I'm tired of spending money for it not to fix the underlying issue which no one can seem to figure out. I have learned this is a problem for a lot of chevy Malibu owners. I am unable to get another vehicle so I am stuck with what I currently have.

My car keeps popping up service esc, engine power reduced and service traction lights keep coming on. Have had fixed 3 times and sill keeps happening. While vehicle is driving it will die for no reason, once started back up sometimes it stops other times starts shaking and as no power.

I was driving at a speed of 40 mph when all of a sudden I heard a high revving sound as if another vehicle was right beside me passing and soon realized that it was my car revving with the rpm gauge going above 3 and my car slowing down. Moments later my passengers and I felt a sudden "jerk" and the car jetted forward only to start revving again and this time I was merely moving at about 20 mph as I was still in shock from the first revving and non-accelerating moment. After trying helplessly to get the car to move at a speed of at least 15-20 mph, I decided to stop/restart the car and try using the manual shift. It gave another sudden "jerking" movement and moved in m5 but not even 10 seconds the car started with the loud revving sound as if I were mashing gas which I wasn't and we barely made it home at about 10mph using hazard lights. We basically had to push it over 2 very small speed bumps on the way in the gate. I decided to take it to the autonation shevy dealership where I bought it but unfortunately the car would not move and instead had to be towed there. Autonation chevy did a "diagnosis" of sorts and within moments called to say that there is metal in the transmission and I need to pay a whopping $4,300. 00 to have it fixed. Of course I could go on about how frustrating and humiliating this whole ordeal has been from beginning to $$$$ end bud I'd appreciate it if chevy can reach out to me because I have a friend who said she had the same issue with her Malibu. I'm sure there are others out there but I'm now wondering if chevy wants to wait until god forbid a dire situation occurs before they fix this problem.

I was driving home on a city street, with my 3 young children in the vehicle, when suddenly my car started violently shaking and quickly decelerated to about 10 mph. It was very scary and I just thought what if this happened while I was on the interstate I regularly drive. Thankfully I was close to home and was able to make it home.

Malibu decreases speed and downshifts and engine power reduced comes up in message center, no bumps, hard braking, no carwashes, simply driving down the road at 45mph and car illuminates engine light. Several parts have been replaced already for example throttle body, knock sensor, maf sensor, battery, fuse box, accelerator pedal all of these parts and my issue still persists. Several complaints have been made for this year make and model therefore I do not feel like this is an isolated issue.

Headlights won't work brand new lightbulbs dashboard lights dim is outcontrol transaction turns on brake light turns on without touching the brakes they basically stay on and more.

The first time my vehicle died while driving I was slowing down to turn right. The engine died and I turned off the vehicle, tried to restart and it would not stay started. I had it towed to the dealership and they could not duplicate the problem or get the car to give them codes so they had me pick it up. The 2nd time the car died on the freeway a week later. I was going 60mph trying to keep acceleration when it lost power. Thankfully I was near an exit and I was able to pull to the side of the exit. Again had it towed to the dealership. They duplicated the problem but have not been able to figure out what's causing it.

Two days ago my husband, two children and I were driving at about 40-45 mph when our 2010 chevy Malibu drastically slowed down and wouldn't accelerate with the gas pedal pressed all the way to the floor. At the same time service esc, service traction and engine power reduced illuminated on our dash. Thankfully we were able to coast into a gas station. After turning the car off and on again, checking under the hood and sitting for over 30 minutes the problem still persisted. The car would not accelerate at all. We had to have a tow truck come get the car and bring it to the chevy dealership. Today we received a call from the delearship saying we needed to replace the throttle body and it would cost $630. This doesn't make sense as the car has only 13,000 miles on it and has been very well taken care of. I put the VIN into the recall database and the only recall attached to our VIN is the brake lamp malfunction. This is very dangerous and should be looked into by the manufacturer.

I have replaced my transmission in 2019. Car still has transmission problems. I’ve replaced my passenger headlight and lamp but the light still won’t work. My brake lights or back blinkers don’t work even after changing the fuses. Tire pressure light won’t go off. I have had this car since 2010. .

I've had electrical problems with my car since I bought it. The dealer has never been able to fix it because my car never showed any "codes". My car has acceleration problems, the right head light socket harness keeps burning out and I'm also starting to have problems with my brake lights. My brake lights don't go on when I press on my brake and when I do they sometimes stay on after I take my foot off the brake. The acceleration problem happens on a full stop and on the highway. I usually give my self extra space to accelerate because my car fails at times. In the highway my car sometimes struggles to catch up to speed with the other cars. This problem has almost cause and accident several times.

I have 2010 chevy Malibu I love my car it has never given me any problems the whole 3 years of owning it just the normal maintenance. One day I was driving at a speed of 25 mph and I crossed over an intersection and as soon as I did so I pushed to gas pedal to accelerate a little and I noticed that it wasn't going. This was very dangerous because I had my children in the car and another vehicle was right behind me and could have caused a car crash. I didn't realize that the car had shut off because everything was still work radio was on , lights were working. So I pulled over and turned the car completely off and when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't start. The engine just kept turning over and not getting a good spark. And it also caused the battery to fail so I had to get a new battery. I changed the camshaft sensor, the crankshaft sensor and the car is still doing the same thing. This is a huge inconvenience for me because no one can find out what the problem is because the battery died o lost all diagnostic codes. Now what?.

Engine power reduced while I was driving into my daughters school.

The vechile lost speed as I was driving into a parking space. I then put it in park. At that point the engine light was blinking. The car was shaking uncontrollably as if it would all just fall apart in pieces. The steering wheel was hard to turn and also rapidly shaking. The service esc, service traction control, and a light with a car on a curved road was also on. This almost caused me to hit a parked car in front of me. I turned the car off and then back on and all the lights were off. I believe it to be the streering coloumn or an electrial issue. I read on some recalls and I think it is similar to the recall #14e044000. However, when I search my VIN it is not listed under it. Yet it is the same issue.

Engine power reduce light came on and I lost power in the middle of the freeway.

Had camshaft sensor installed less than a year ago and engine came on with same sensor code. The electrical system is going out constantly and headlight bulb was repaired 4 times less than a year. Cost me over 600 total one service was done for free because it was repaired and blew the next day. So much work and barely drive to car to and from work only 2 miles. I plan to make a complaint to the attorney general for explanations if not solved or reimbursed. The vehicle stays in the shop more than use. Traction control sensor replaces and came back 2 weeks later. The vehicle also stalled with my children on a busy street where a vehicle almost struck the back side missing my daughter by inches. Unsafe vehicle and too many malfuctions.

I was driving and then came to a stop to pull on a major highway. When I turned on the high way my Malibu wouldn't accelerate and acted as if it was in neutral, as a semi pulled up behind me I had to put it almost in a ditch so I wouldn't get hit. My mechanic says its the 3,5,r wave plate and that he looked at all the Malibu forums online and found out that many people have had this happen. I contacted gm and they told me there was nothing they could do. Never buying a chevy again.

I was driving on the highway, going 60mph. The car suddenly slowed down to about 5mph and started violently shaking, and I had to quickly pull to the shoulder lane, "reduced engine speed" appeared on the dashboard, along with "esc traction control". Restarted my car and the light went off. About 15 mins later, it did the same thing. This is extremely dangerous for myself and other people around me.

Freeway driving speed of 65 mph. Turned off freeway on to a 50 mph road. Engine light, service esc light and traction control lights all came on. Car went into "limp mode" and reduced driving to only 20 mph. Drove 5 miles in limp mode to get home. Got a "p1235" code. After leaving car for an hour and restarting, it drive normally but, check engine light is still on and the p1235 code is stored. Took vehicle to a mechanic and car drove as normal. He thinks it is a button on the gas peddal or a throttle body. Both are expensive options and should be under some warranty. This vehicle is only 7 years old.
