3 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/06/2020

I wanted to let you know about an experience at discount tire 580 w telegraph washington utah. and you can forward this to any regulating agency. From my knowledge, when two tires are purchased new, it is required to mount them on the front of the vehicle if it is front wheel drive. And move the lower tread tires to the back. While at this location, the person running the shop stated they are not allowed to touch tires or rotate them if they have low tread. And they mounted the two new ones on opposite corners (front driver and rear passenger). And tried to sell 2 additional tires. this is against the law. I want this business reviewed for their license.

7 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/20/2012

Started the car to come out of a parking spot, heard humming/rattling noise. Steering wheel started to vibrate then would do rapid half-turns by itself, jerking left and right. Shut the car off and restarted. Seemed ok for first few minutes then started again. Got on the road, driving about 35-40 mpg on highway and it became uncontrollable. Could not keep it straight within the lane. Almost hit a car in the lane on my right! pulled up to an auto shop near by. They test drove and experienced the issue but explained that with these cars, the technology in them is too advanced and would have to be taken to a chevy dealer. Mechanic explained that the matter is quite hazardous and it would be a huge risk driving it now. Single mom driving 45 minutes from home with 2 minor children. Had to get a tow truck to get back home, 45 minutes away. $$$!! had this vehicle for 11 months only. Prior to this issue, had door locks issues as I've ready on other threads and also currently experiencing issues with faulty tire pressure sensor as well. Nothing but problems with this car since I've had it. This is my first and very last Chevrolet!!.

8 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

Several times we have had to replace the tire pressure monitoring system that should not have failed. My techs are qualified and these were defective when the customer came in, but because we showed them to the customers they felt we damaged them. It is making us not want to inflate tires. . . . And this is unsafe for the customer.

9 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

Automatic tire-pressure monitor displaying incorrectly. I attempted to put more air in all the tires beginning with the front left tire but the on board display indicated that the pressure was not increasing. I then had my son change the display to show the rear tire pressures and the left-rear was increasing in pressure even though I was filling the left-front (drivers side). I could have over-inflated the tire and possibly exploded the tire had we not checked. I later tried filling the right-front and experienced the same problems.

10 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/19/2009

We bought a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The salesman said to inflate the tire to 35 lbs. One tire (hankook) lost air frequently. I went to fill the tire and the tire had written inflate to 42 lbs. The information on the door said to inflate to 32 lbs. The tire took about 38 lbs. Before my tire pump wouldn't fill it any more. I called gm and complained. After several phone calls the person I spoke to said to inflate to what was written in the owner's manual. The owner's manual said to follow the directions on the tire. What should I do? if I over inflate, the tires may blow out or may blow up (while inflating). If I underinflate the tires may also blow out and will give poor gas mileage. Gm was no help at all. This is a major safety problem.

11 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/04/2009

I was putting air in the tire and when I released the nozzle of the air hose the valve stem broke in half and the hose flew back and the top half of the metal part of the valve stem flew back. It missed my face and flew about 2 feet behind me. All the air came out of the tire at once. I took the tire to the GMC dealer and they replaced the part under warranty.
