1 Tire problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/02/2026

I had a tire installed by a repair shop approximately one month ago. I recently discovered that the tire installed on my vehicle is the incorrect size. My vehicle requires size 225/55r17, but the shop installed size 245/45r17. This creates a safety concern due to improper fitment, which can affect handling, stability, and overall vehicle performance. I only discovered the issue after experiencing a separate flat tire and inspecting all tires on the vehicle. I contacted the business to have the issue corrected, but they refused to assist me. During multiple phone calls, both the manager and assistant manager were dismissive, unprofessional, and terminated the calls without providing any resolution. The incorrect tire remains on the vehicle, and the business has failed to correct their error.

4 Tire problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/05/2022

Tires came on vehicle oem firestone ft140. 205/65/r16. The vehicle, a 2016 chevy Malibu LS, has 25, 652 miles on it. The tires are maintained, rotated regularly, correct tire pressure etc. No signs of uneven wear, cupping etc. No wheel alignment needed etc. As per dealer. The tire tread is down to 4/32 in the rear and 6/32 in the front. Tread wear seems to be excessive for the rear tires on a vehicle with only 25k on it. I reached out to firestone and Chevrolet. Oem tires should not be wearing out this premature. When I asked the firestone rep about tread life they told me that they did not know what the expected tread life was on oem tires because they were made to specifics provided by vehicle manufacturer. If I were to buy the same again now as a replacements, they have a 50k tread life warranty, nut I am concerned about the premature tread wear. I will need to replace the tires at close to $1000, an an unexpected cost with such low mileage.

10 Tire problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

I purchased 4 new 70,000 mile general altimax rt tires in February 2013 from walmart #3581. The tires now have exactly 10,774 miles on them. They are making loud thumping noises that I describe as a helicopter sound. The sound varies depending on vehicle speed, but it seems most noticeable around 35-50 miles per hour. Steering is difficult, and the car feels unstable. 70k tires should last longer than 10,774 miles on passenger car. These tires are defective and dangerous.

16 Tire problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

While driving 70 miles per hr on the highway a loud noise and slight vibration was felt. After slowing down, the noise was not as loud and the vibration was less. On exiting the highway onto a busy road driving no more than 45 to 50 mile per hour the noise was not noticeable and the vibration seemed to be gone. On getting out of the car and looking at all four tires it was determined that the noise and vibration was coming from the highway surface. On pulling out of the garage the next morning the noise was back and the vibration was very noticeable. Road service was called to check to see if their was a flat tire or a problem with the wheel lugs. On arrival the service technician drove the car and discovered the back right tire had separated in several places causing the sound and the vibration. His statement was "someone up there must love you", this would have killed you if you had continued to drive on it. The tire was removed and will be taken back to the place of purchase. This is a firestone tire purchased 11/27/2010 31.

18 Tire problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/01/2012

In 2006 I purchased 4 new cooper lifeliner touring sle tires from a local dealer for a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. Tires were highly recommended and touted as being top of the line. Just after a few years of service, I had to frequently add air to the tires. This was especially worse under the weight of the front axle. Instead of checking air pressure once a month, I had to check about every 2 weeks. Causes the car to handle poorly on the road, steer harder, and fuel efficiency goes down. Returned to place of purchase, and tires were removed and reinstalled to reseal. Tires were always well maintained, rotated, cleaned, garaged, and properly aired to the specs of the vehicle. I even avoid pot holes. Shop owner commented how nice they were wearing. After only about 35k miles of service and 5/32 tread remaining I returned to the shop for 2nd or 3rd time again with same complaint of having to add air too frequently. Tires were again removed and shop owner stated the tire needed replaced due to a split on the inside and potential for complete tire failure. Shop owner stated that the tires are not warranted due to age. Tires gave no indication of imminent failure. Tires are not dry rotted, no noise, no repairs, no vibration and plenty of tread depth with at least 5/32 remaining. Tires conveniently just made it past the warranty. The shop had to install my temporary spare so I could get home. I found it a bit unusual that the shop owner wanted to keep the bad tire without charging me disposal fee. I still have the tires, and curiously all 4 have hair line splits on the insides. You can't see any indication on the outside of the tire. It has to be removed from the rim to see the problem areas. Not including my experiences, I know of at least 3 other instances of cooper lifeliner touring tires having air pressure issues. I consider this premature failure and potential for accidents.

21 Tire problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/24/2011

Vehicle at highway speeds of 65 - 75 mph will experience a vibration that can be felt in the seats and in the steering wheel. Vibration will not go away and will worsen after a wheel balancing. Manufacturer has stated that the vibration is inherent in the vehicles design and they will not repair the vehicle. The vibration causes premature tire where that could lead to possible tire failure.

23 Tire problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/20/2010

On 6 August 2010, I purchased 3 tires from ray's tire & service in st. Augustine, FL 32084, having a goodyear logo touted on their invoice and a huge goodyear sign on their buildings, therefore, one would assume that tires being bought and installed are goodyear. . . Well that's no so. . . While driving to cleveland, ohio suburb last Monday (20 sept 10), my left front tire separated on I-75 running at approx 74 mph heading north in london, ky. Had it been a woman driver with lesser driving skills, lord only knows the horrors. Upon returning to town and visiting ray's tire for a rebate, I was told it was not responsible and that tire installed was a kumo tire. . . Not a goodyear. . . Thus, I ask those of your overseeing highway safety, is this acceptable as a "truth-in-advertising" issue? thus I ask of you overseeing highway safety, is this acceptable to goodyear corporate board of director stewardship? thus I ask, is this acceptable from a highway safety standpoint and trustworthy, the average consumer can feel comfortable with? this 84 year old ww ii overseas veteran consumer does not believe so and feels strongly you shouldn't either.

24 Tire problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/18/2010

On June 18, 2010 I had an accident that I believe was caused by a tire failure. No other vehicles were involved in this accident and there were no injuries. The vehicle was declared a total loss by my insurance company. On June 18, 2010 at approximately 6:00pm I was driving on the pennsylvania turnpike. My vehicle was headed west somewhere between the donegal exit and the new stanton exit of the turnpike. The weather conditions were what I consider ideal driving conditions. I was in the right lane of the two lane roadway and as I was approaching a moderate curve in the roadway my vehicle pulled severely to the left, I attempted to control the vehicle by using the steering wheel and moderate pressure on the brakes. No amount of control I tried to exert was of any value and within seconds my vehicle had struck the jersey barrier on the left side of the highway and spun into a position against the right jersey barrier facing traffic. I would like to add here that I had owned and driven this vehicle for over 10 years and approaching 75,000 miles, I was completely accustomed to maintaining control of this vehicle even while driving under the worst of conditions at highway speeds. At the time of the accident my vehicle was equipped with four p215/60r15 93t yokahama avid tour s s319 bw serial no. M6orplhr1410 tires. These tires were purchased and mounted on June 15, 2010 and had approximately 150 miles on them. The immediate and severe loss of the control I experienced is the basis for my opinion that one of these tires failed catastrophically to cause this accident. My auto insurance company has researched the matter and found that there were no manufacturer recalls, investigations, or technical service bulletins relating to the conditions described. I urged them to make a physical inspection of the vehicle to determine if the tires or any other defect of the vehicle could have caused the loss of control, but they were unwilling to do so. Updated ivoq 09/22/10.
