Four problems related to spare tire have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving the spare tire cable sheared off, resulting in the loss of the spare tire. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the cable and racket was a set and needed replacement. Consumer informed the mechanic that a recall was not for this vehicle. And as a consumer the payment should rendered on the dealer, not on the consumer.
Cable holding spare tire to underside of body broke while vehicle was moving. Wheel hit another vehicle on the roadway causing $1140. 00 damage, plus replacement costs of spare tire hoist to my vehicle.
Spare tire mounted too high, interfering with view when backing up.
While driving vehicle the spare tire which is located under vehicle fell off. Vehicle speed was 45-50 mph prior to defect. Cause unknown.
