Failure occurred during heavy rain/hail storm. Has also failed in light rain. Contacted manufacturer who states that vehicle is not on recall list. I asked if I could further report this problem. I was told no ,that vehicle was not on recall list and that was all they could do for me. I have contacted parts dept so that I could replace wiper motor circuit board and cover myself. I was advised by parts dept that part number for my vehicle was the same as for the vehicles that were recalled. Note when I inquired of team how much the repair would be I was informed $170. 00. The part is appx $50. 00 it appears that to replace the part all you have to do is remove the cover and swap out the part . Looks to me that it should not take more than a few mintues. I haven't done it yet so I may be wrong.

I've experienced the same problems with the windshield wipers as the vehicles that were recalled. However, my VIN# was such that I had to pay for the repairs. I don't understand why so many s-10 owners have had the same problem, yet an additional recall has not been issued. I guess it will take a class action suit before gm will fix the problem.
If it is raining windshield wipers will not work. If consumer turned on windshield wipers, they will not work. Consumer went to dealership on two different occasions.
This is exactly the same failure as TSB #98043, which, however, excludes this vehicle by several thousand VIN numbers: intermittent function of the wipers, presumably due to some kind of short (it only happens when it rains!). My repair guy tells me that.
Windshield wipers will fail intermittently, causing poor visibility. Consumer was told that vehicle was not included in recall 98v150001 due to VIN although it had the same defect. Dealer told consumer that defect was due to wiper motor overheating, and a new designed circuit board would need to be installed, dealer paid for parts, however consumer paid for labor.

Checked with my dealer after my wipers began working intermittently, and I read about the recall but was told my VIN # was not one of the affected units. Purchased a new module from the dealer on 9/10/00 and replaced the module myself and wipers have worked fine since. Noticeable wear on the electrical contacts on the old module.
Windshield wiper module failed, recall on component however vehicle denied due to VIN #.

They have a recall for trucks made from Aug 1994-may 1996. . My truck was made in July 1996. It has the exact same problems as my 1996 s-10 which was covered under the recall. Windshield wipers do not operate all the time or when they do operate they are sporadic. Very annoying especially in bad weather.
